THE FOUNTAIN At its full height of 560 feet, the fountain in the center of Fountain Hills is higher than the Washington Monument. It is 10 feet taller than Notre Dame Cathedral, 110 feet higher than the Great Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt and three times as high as Old Faithful in Yellowstone Park. The fountain is the focal point for community celebrations and the pride of its residents. If you happen to visit during the St. Patrick’s Day celebration, you’ll see the fountain transform to bright green. The Fountain is extended to its full height on some occasions, for everyday viewing the Fountain reaches a height of 330 feet!

MT. McDOWELL – FIREROCK One of the most prominent landmarks near Fountain Hills and Fort McDowell is the jagged outline of Red Mountain, at 2,830 feet high. The deep cleft on its western flank is known as “Gunsight” because of its resemblance to the narrow slot in a fort used for firing at attackers. Its distinctive red color that glows dramatically in the last rays of day, lead some to call it FireRock.

FOUR PEAKS – PURPLE MOUNTAIN MAJESTY The lyrics “purple mountain majesty” could have been written for these peaks. They change with the light from lavender to violet to deep purple. Fittingly, the world’s finest amethyst is found high on its slopes. This mountain is one of the area’s highest points at 7,657 feet. Visitors and residents have grandstand seats for the daily spectacle of the sun rising dramatically behind Four Peaks. McDOWELL Some of the oldest rock in Arizona makes up the McDowell Mountain Range to the west. The range’s highest is McDowell Peak, at 4,034 feet. The rounded mountain to the south is Fire Necklace Mountain, named when a fire burned down its slopes, encircling it. Indians found shelter here, as evidenced by petroglyphs and artifacts. Prospectors sought mineral wealth but discovered only limited amounts of gold, silver and copper.

OUTDOOR RECREATION & ACTIVITIES PARKS AND RECREATION Jump from sprinkler to sprinkler in our splash pad, or spread out your blanket for a movie in the park for family friendly fun! Fountain Hills features four different parks for your outdoor recreation enjoyment! Get outside and enjoy any of our parks including; Desert Vista Park, Fountain Park, Four Peaks Park and Golden Eagle Park. The Town of Fountain Hills has been described as one of the most pet friendly towns in the valley; bring your furry friends to Desert Vista Dog Park and play the day away! McDOWELL MOUNTAIN REGIONAL PARK McDowell Mountain Regional Park has over 50 miles of hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails through beautiful desert scenery. This 21,099-acre regional park is located four miles north of Fountain Hills. For mountain bikers, the competitive track has three loop tracks; a long loop – 8.2 miles, a sport loop – 3.0 miles, and a technical loop – 2.9 miles. A pump track has been added to the Competitive Track trailhead. This twisting combination of table tops, rollers and banked turns is a great way to improve weight shifting and bike handling skills. For campers, McDowell Mountain Park has 76 individual sites for tent or RV camping. The developed sites accommodate up to a 45-foot RV. Restrooms offer flush toilets and showers. www.maricopa.gov/parks/mcdowell McDOWELL MOUNTAIN PRESERVE Thanks to the foresight of local residents, the tops of the McDowell Mountains are preserved for wildlife and future generations to enjoy. Through the work of Sonoran Conservancy volunteers, there are now more than five miles of trails. TONTO NATIONAL FOREST Located only minutes away is Tonto National Forest. With two of Arizona’s largest and most scenic rivers, six lakes, and landscapes ranging from desert to pine forests and high mountain peaks, the forest offers a wide range of recreation opportunities: swimming, boating, hiking, camping, rafting, horseback riding and bird watching, to name a few. www.fs.usda.gov/tonto SAGUARO LAKE Saguaro Lake, twenty minutes from Fountain Hills, is one of the most popular recreation sites in Tonto National Forest. The golden cliffs and rugged shoreline of Saguaro Lake make a spectacular setting for outdoor activities. At the Lakeshore Restaurant, diners have incredible views from indoors or outdoors. Boat rentals can be arranged at Precision Marine, which also carries bait, tackle and marine supplies. Horseback riding and kayak and tube rentals are offered at Saguaro Lake Ranch, below the dam. ART WALK Fountain Hills has one of the valley’s largest public owned art collections, and we invite you to experience our self-guided walking tour of the town’s 150-plus-piece art collection. The Town of Fountain Hills hosts docent-led art walks each month from September through April. Special Sessions – Those classes marked *Special Session are specially planned Fountain Park tours that end one hour before a Fountain Hills Artists’ Gallery Featured Artist Reception. The Town of Fountain Hills along with the Fountain Hills Artists’ Gallery invites you to the gallery for a special meet and greet with their monthly featured artist! Gallery receptions are in the Fountain Hills Artist Gallery on the Avenue of the Fountains from 5-7 p.m. This season’s Featured Artist Receptions are scheduled for October 29, November 19 and December 17, 2015.
