r. Alexander “A.J.” Chandler founded the City of Chandler in 1912. This Canadian veterinarian came to Arizona in 1887, and soon amassed 18,000 acres of land that became his Chandler Ranch. Homesteaders bought parcels of his ranch, and Dr. Chandler established a canal company to bring irrigation to the area. He soon envisioned a town formed under the “City Beautiful” movement, which emphasized the placement of parks surrounded by monumental

Jan. 15, 2011 Multicultural Festival/Feis in the Desert The festival features musical performances, visual art demonstrations, dance troupes and storytellers representing cultures from near and far, coupled with The Feis, an Irish dancing competition. Feb. 19, 2011 Mardi Gras Event New Orleans-style fun, with costumes, dinner, entertainment and casino games. A fundraiser for the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership Feb. 26, 2011 Classic Car & Hot Rod Show An annual event which benefits local charities, the show highlights pre-1980 cars and hot rods and typically some recent purchases from the BarrettJackson Auction. There is plenty of food and entertainment. Mar. 5, 2011 Ostrich Festival Parade The official kick-off to the Annual Ostrich Festival, the parade through Historic Downtown Chandler has floats, marching bands and community groups, including the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, the event sponsor. Mar. 17, 2011 St. Patrick’s Day Festival Downtown bars celebrate with entertainment galore, games and an opportunity to toast the Irish in all of us with the best brews in town.

Monthly Events Downtown Chandler Art Walk 3rd Friday of the month, 6-10 p.m. A great evening showcasing local artists displaying their works for purchase along with live music and artist demonstrations throughout the square.
