Welcome to Arizona Avenues Greater Phoenix’s western communities.
Every fabulous American metropolis has its “Avenues” – signature streets lined with boutique shops, remarkable restaurants and quaint homes. Arizona’s Avenues are equally charming, noteworthy and even extraordinary. Located west of Central Avenue in Phoenix, each of the 13 communities that make up Arizona’s “Avenues” is unique, but each shares an “Avenues” address and attitude. Just 30 years ago the communities west of Phoenix consisted mainly of flat cattle ranches, cotton fields and citrus groves. Today, there are still plenty of vestiges of the agrarian life, but big-city attractions dominate as Arizona the entire area has exploded with growth in recent years. It astounds even Avenues natives of the Grand Canyon State to realize that the West Valley is one of the fastest growing areas in the U.S. – almost 700,000 people reside in the boast 325 West Valley’s 13 cities and towns. Trendy restaurants, world-class arts, shopping, superb golf courses, and days of easily accessible outdoor parks and recreational areas have all contributed sunshine to the growth. Arizona’s Avenues are home to one of the 10 best antique shopping districts in the U.S., as well as a regional shopping centers. each year Nationally recognized historic ranches-turned museums and mining attractions are testaments to a proud heritage, while art and specialty museums boast collections that will slow time. Also in this prestigious area, Peoria is home to the only Smithsonian Institution affiliate in Greater Phoenix. The West Valley is home to major league sports teams. Glendale lays claim to University of Phoenix Stadium, home to the NFL’s 2009 NFC Champions Arizona Cardinals. A smaller, though no less impressive venue, sits next door, the Jobing.com Arena. Major concerts, ice skating shows and the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes, call this building home. Peoria, Surprise, Glendale and Goodyear all have state-of-the-art Cactus League Spring Training ballparks. And Avondale has Phoenix International Raceway, a world-class professional raceway and home to a multitude of NASCAR racing events. For those that are less interested in watching than in doing, four regional parks offer plenty of outdoor activities. The Estrella Mountains line the horizons of Goodyear, Tolleson and Avondale, while the White Tank Mountains are virtually surrounded by Buckeye, Surprise and Litchfield Park. Thunderbird Mountain Park is part of Glendale, and Lake Pleasant in Peoria is truly a water-lovers paradise. No question about it – there’s a lot of ground to cover in the Avenues. The good news is, there’s a palpable aura of “howdy, pardner” – a real sense of “welcome, please stay awhile” – that will comfort you along the way.

El Mirage El Mirage is the gateway to the Northwest Valley. Located in the heart of the rapidly growing West Valley, the community has grown from a small town dependent on agriculture to a diverse urban economy. El Mirage is just minutes away from several professional sports venues, some of the best golf courses in the Valley and high-end retail outlets. El Mirage boasts two community parks. The new 13-acre Gateway Park offers ramadas, a shaded playground and tot lot, a skate plaza (the first in Arizona), two baseball/softball fields with lights, three multi-purpose fields, two lighted basketball courts, a splash park, an amphitheater, a 1/2-mile walk/jog path, a dog park, drinking fountains, concession/retail store, and family restrooms. Bill Gentry Park offers a youth ball field, basketball court, playground and workout stations. More than 40,000 people call El Mirage home, a testament to their belief in the community and an increase of nearly 400 percent from five years ago. Buckeye An amazing place to live, work, play and learn! Buckeye sits on the western edge of the Southwest Valley, nestled between the White Tank Mountains and the confluence of the Gila and Hassayampa rivers. Named the second fastest growing town in the nation in 2007, Buckeye is still holding its own at number nine! With a current population of 52,000, projected to rise to over 200,000 by the year 2020, Buckeye is one of the largest “small towns” in Arizona. Nature abounds in Buckeye interspersed with very livable master planned communities, smaller housing developments Buckeye and family farms. Farming is still a big part of Buckeye, as the is one of crops yield cotton, soy beans, alfalfa and grain. Buckeye Hills is home to Robbins Butte, the destination for “watchable wildlife” the largest and the Joe Foss Shooting Range. If you’re here in the early spring, you may even get to see the famous and elusive waterfall! Icons of the early town remain in the downtown area. Remnants of Historic Route 80, the southern sister of the famed Route 66, and once the only allweather, all-year route to Buckeye Aquatic Center California, remain intact. Exterior renovations to the Ware Building are complete, restoring a lovely piece of 1910 to downtown. Named Sidney when the first town site plat was filed in 1888, the area of the original settlement remains near Centre and 6th Streets. Kell Store, c.1898, was the first “store” in the township and is today a private residence, bearing no resemblance to the original building. St. Henry’s Mission Church was established in 1906. Buckeye Town Park is home to the Buckeye Historical and Archeological Museum, a replica of the Kell Store, with an impressive collection of artifacts of the Hohokam and Anasazi tribes, early inhabitants of the Valley. Town Park is also home to the Buckeye Aquatic Center, volleyball pits, ball fields, picnic tables and Skate Park. Visitors will enjoy the many local events taking place throughout the year, including Pioneer Days in March, featuring the Helzapoppin’ PRCA Rodeo, and Country Fest in November, with the Home Town Holiday Boutique, Car Show and Fall Demolition Derby in November. Buckeye’s proximity to Phoenix allows access to art and culture, sporting events, nightlife, major transportation and upscale shopping, while allowing residents a little place of peace in the country.
