MATAMOROS El municipio de Matamoros ubicado en la parte noreste del estado de Tamaulipas, tiene como cabecera municipal la ciudad del mismo nombre. Colinda al norte con Brownsville Texas, Estados Unidos de la cual está separada por el Río Bravo; al sur con el municipio de San Fernando, Tam. y la Laguna Madre; al este con el Golfo de México y al oeste con los municipios tamaulipecos de Río Bravo y Valle Hermoso. A través del sistema de comunicación carretero, Matamoros está conectado a los principales mercados del país, mientras que por aire lo hace por medio de vuelos que parten y llegan al Aeropuerto Internacional Servando Canales. Cuenta con cuatro puentes internacionales como parte de la infraestructura de cruces internacionales: El Puente Brownsville-Matamoros, La Puerta de México, el Puente Libre Comercio que une Matamoros con la ciudad de Harlingen, Texas utilizado para transporte de carga y el Puente General Ignacio Zaragoza. La principal actividad económica de Matamoros es la industria manufacturera, a ella le sigue el intercambio comercial. Un rubro que ha crecido en los últimos años es el Turismo Médiprocedentes del Valle de Texas que acuden a esta ciudad en busca de tratamiento de calidad a menor costo que en el vecino país. Para auxiliar a estas personas se ha implementado transporte especial para el traslado desde los puentes internacionales a consultorios y hospitales locales, generando importantes resultados.

The municipality of Matamoros located on the northeastern corner of Tamaulipas, has as municipal head the city with the same name. It's bordered on the north by the State of Texas, USA separated by the Río Bravo; on the south by the municipality of San Fernando and the Laguna Madre; on the east by the Gulf of Mexico and on the west by the municipalities of Río Bravo and Valle Hermoso. By the communication highway system, the municipality is connected to the principal markets of the country, meanwhile it does the International Airport Servando Canales. Matamoros has 4 international bridges as a part of the international crossing infrastructure: The Brownsville-Matamoros Bridge, the Puerta de México (Door to Mexico), the Free Trade International Bridge that joins Matamoros to the city of Harlingen, Texas used to load transport and the General Ignacio Zaragoza Bridge. The principal economic activity of Matamoros is the manufacturing industry, to it follows the trade exchange. An area that has increased in the last years is the Medical Tourism registering a great number of persons arriving from the Texas Valley that come to this city looking for quality treatment to the lowest price that in the neighboring country. To help these people an special transport has been implemented for the transfer from the international bridges to medical centers and local hospitals, producing important results.
Matamoros además de ser una excelente opción para aquellos que deseen algún servicio médico, cuenta con una gran variedad de atractivos turísticos que le recomendamos ampliamente. En el centro de la ciudad está la Catedral de Nuestra Señora del Refugio que data de 1793, una de las construcciones más importantes y con mayor historia de la ciudad,. Caminar por la plaza que se encuentra frente al templo le permitirá sentir el ambiente de esta ciudad fronteriza. A tan solo una cuadra de la plaza está la Galería cos dan a conocer sus obras, ahora que si lo que desea es conocer su artesanía típica, no deje de visitar el Mercado Juárez, el más antiguo de la ciudad. Otros inmuebles históricos son la Casa Mata y el Teatro Reforma, mientras que la primera muestra en sus tres salas objetos de la época prehispánica, el teatro es 1861 en un intento por crear una réplica del Teatro de la Ópera de Paris. La ciudad cuenta con el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, centro artesanal dedicado al fomento del arte popular y con el Museo del Agrarismo Mexicano. Para aquellos que gusten del sol y del mar, 27 kilómetros al este de Matamoros se encuentra una hermosa playa, ideal para la práctica de la pesca y los deportes les recomendamos visitar la Laguna Madre, una excelente opción para la practica de la pesca deportiva, el avistamiento de aves en las distintas islas de este puerto maravilloso a 72 kilómetros de Matamoros.
Besides being an excellent option to all those that wish a medic service, Matamoros has a large variety of touristic attractions that are highly recommended. The Cathedral of Our Lady of Refugee from 1793, located in downtown, is one of the most important constructions, with the city’s largest history. Walking by the plaza in front of the temple allows feeling the atmosphere of the border city. The Gallery Albertina is just one block away from the plaza, a neoclassical prefer the traditional craftwork, do not forget to visit the Market Juarez, the oldest one in town. Other historical prehispanic era; the theater is an amazing architectonical work that was built in 1861 in an attempt of creating a replica of the Opera of Paris. The city counts with the Museum of Contemporary Art, handicraft center for the development of the folk art, together with the Museum of the Mexican Agrarian. For those that enjoy the sun and the sea, 17 miles to the west of Matamoros is the beautiful beach, ideal to that prefer the ecotourism, we recommend them to visit the Madre Lagoon, an ideal option to practice sport wonderful port at 45 miles from Matamoros.
