10 FOR 10! THAT’S AWESOME! PTSMC was named to the Hartford Courant and Hearst Media’s list of Top Workplaces in 2020 – that makes it 10 straight years of being honored as a Top Workplace in Connecticut! This year we ranked 5th in the “small employer group.” While thousands of employers of various sizes have participated over the ten-year history of the survey, as an organization we have the honor of being one of only six to be recognized by our people in every year that the survey has existed. An amazing feat! The process entails a detailed and highly confidential survey that employees are asked to voluntarily complete and submit. The areas of focus include values, leadership, communication, wages, benefits, and culture. If you recall, the survey administered by Energage took place during the early part of the pandemic. To be honest, I was reluctant to ask our people to participate; I wasn’t sure we would have enough people willing put in the time and effort to complete it. I was also concerned about asking for help to make PTSMC better during a period of unprecedented change, uncertainty and fear. Contrary to my concern, PTMSC sent 248 surveys and 171 completed the survey, indicating that 69% of those who received a survey took the time to get it done. The overall results reported showed a 75% Engagement score, 19% better than the participation “benchmark” set by Energage. Thank you. In addition to submitting the basics, several individuals added thoughtful and thought-provoking comments. It was truly rewarding to read the overwhelmingly positive comments about PTSMC. The most common positive themes that emerged were reflective of our mission, our commitment to those we serve, and the shared purpose we have as an organization. Much of what I read reinforced that PTSMC is getting a lot right about being an “employer of choice.” The idea that our people are here

because they want to be here – they want to work towards our mission of “improving the quality of people’s lives” – is a great sign for the continued health of our organization. There is no doubt that reviewing the comments was a “feel good” moment for me, especially in these challenging times. It was very moving to read the thoughts related to teamwork and having each other’s backs. It is clear that our people care for, and about, each other as co-workers and as friends.

“The progress I have made with Travis (Lytle) has been amazing. While that is clearly the most important thing, almost as important is the atmosphere at PTSMC. All the staff are helpful and There were also some insights into areas that need improvement, and I the work environment is so positive. I want to thank everyone who voiced their concerns as well. I believe that definitely enjoy my time there, even constructive feedback is a great tool capable of making people and when I am in (therapeutic) pain.” - Avon companies better. Trust me when I tell you that we take these comments to heart in our perpetual efforts to make PTSMC and PT For Life the very best place for our people and our patients. One of my reflections on PTSMC as company is, “all we have is our people.” Simple yet powerful. Thanks for making us a “Top Workplace” for a decade straight. YOU are what makes us great.

“I have been treated by four different therapists there - all caring, knowledgable, and professional. Everyone knows your name when you walk through the door. Good selection of equipment and alternative therapies such as ultrasound and dry needling. Everyone is very organized and efficient as well as down to earth.” - New London

CLINICIAN’S CORNER EXAMINATION AND TREATMENT OF MEDIAL TIBIAL STRESS SYNDROME By Amy Demers, PT, DPT Physical Therapist at PTSMC Branford When I was a high school cross country runner, almost every member of the team developed “shin splints” at some point during the season. We thought that this was just a normal part of being a runner. For some runners the pain eventually dissipated, but others had to suffer with shin pain with every step they took. In high school I thought that shin splints were inevitable and untreatable, but there are steps you can take to prevent and treat Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (MTSS). There are still a lot of unknowns with MTSS, including its etiology. Some theories suggest that MTSS may be due to a traction force on the periosteum from strong calf muscles.3 Others suggest that MTSS is caused by repetitive bending loads on the tibia which causes microdamage that exceeds a threshold and can no longer be repaired.3 There may, in fact, be different types of MTSS with distinct etiologies.4 MTSS affects 4-35% of athletes and military personnel.1 The strongest risk factors for the development of MTSS include foot overpronation, female gender, and a history of MTSS.3 Other risk factors include increased inversion and eversion passive range of motion (ROM), increased plantar flexor strength and ROM, greater hip internal and external rotation ROM, and a shorter running history.3 Patients with MTSS will complain of running-induced leg pain at the middle or distal 1/3 of the posteromedial border of the tibia.3 Initially pain is present with early activity and subsides with continued exercise, but overtime pain may also be felt at rest or with simple activities.3 During examination, patients with MTSS will usually have tenderness to palpation along the distal 2/3 of the posteromedial border of the tibia, pain with hopping, and pain on percussion.3 Runners with MTSS have greater midfoot pronation on the navicular drop test and are more likely to have early heel rise, forefoot abduction, and a propulsive gait.3 The Foot Posture Index (FPI-6) can be used to quantify the amount of forefoot and rearfoot pronation or supination.2 The MTSS Score is a patient-reported outcome measure that can be used to assess injury severity.5 Imaging has not been shown to be able to differentiate between athletes with and without MTSS, so imaging should only be used if there is concern for a stress fracture.4 Stress fractures should be considered if the patient has localized tenderness to the anterior middle 1/3 of the tibia.3 Treatment of MTSS includes addressing risk factors and then guiding a gradual return to running. This can include prescribing shock absorbing insoles or orthotics to prevent foot overpronation and strengthening the anterior tibialis, intrinsic foot muscles, and hip musculature. Compressive splints may also be helpful in dissipating forces on the tibia.

It is currently very difficult to give patients an accurate prognosis on return to sport. It is recommended that athletes can gradually progress loading when they are able to run for 18 consecutive minutes with <5/10 pain on the Visual Analogue Scale.4 However, symptoms of MTSS can last up to two years, with females tending to take a longer time to recover.4 Measures to prevent MTSS include replacing shoes every 350-450 miles, stretching calves and hamstrings, gradually increasing running and jumping activities, exercising on softer surfaces, strengthening foot and hip musculature, and maintaining a healthy weight. Although aspects of MTSS are still a mystery, addressing modifiable risk factors can help to prevent and speed the recovery of patients suffering from MTSS. References

TELEHEALTH & COMPLIANCE

From Melissa Boutagy, Clinical Compliance Officer

Before the Consultation

Post Consult Reflections

• Clinician must: have access to patient’s medical history, & emergency contact on file • Clinician must: know the location of the patient in case of emergency • Test audio & video as well as lighting & spacing • Send outcome measure to the patient • Consider pre-call questions (pain/function rating)

• Was the session structured? • Did I address outcomes/goals? • Did I summarize the session? • Did I look at the patient? • Did I use a conversational volume? • Was I a good listener? • Was I a good communicator? • Did I confirm location in case of emergency?

Standards of Care for Telehealth are Equal to those in person Tips

• Enhance sessions with use of white boards, YouTube videos, products, or games for children. • To document during session split screen but ensure you can maintain proper video visual for assessment of patient’s movement. • Billing for education time categorize under proper code, some examples: • TherEx= HEP, self-mobilization • Self-Care ADLs-Sleep positioning • TherAct- ergonomic set ups • Manual Therapy: Alternative Mobilization with Movement, Self-Massage Techniques

Getting a Flu Shot?

LET US KNOW!

The CDC strongly recommends everyone over the age of six months gets a flu shot, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wellness Incentive: Physicals

A key factor to health is taking the time each year to get your routine annual physical. Preventive exams and other routine health screenings provide early detection to potentially more serious health issues and gives you a chance to ask questions about your overall health and wellness. Cigna and other health care providers provide preventative care at no cost to you.

When you get yours, you will be entered into a $100 raffle! Email Mallory Mason at Mallory.Mason@ptsmc.com with a picture of your band-aid. Enter by noon on November 6th. The winner will be picked then!

The PTSMC #GetMoving A Festive Fall Challenge group has ONE more day left! Here are some photos of some of the participants so far.

If you participate in PTSMC’s health plan with Cigna, let us know the date and Cigna can provide the verification. If you are not a Cigna member, provide proof of receiving your annual physical from your physician and email Mallory at Wellness@ptsmc.com. - Timeline: Physical attended between March 1, 2020 and February 16, 2021 *In order to gain credit your appointment must be for a routine appointment and cannot be diagnostic in nature. Please work with your physician to ensure that the appointment is a routine visit and is being submitted that way to your medical coverage (i.e. Cigna) in order to receive the incentive. If you are a Cigna member and would like specific information on the preventative services that are available to you at no cost through your plan email Sandra.boccialetti@ptsmc.com. The PTSMC Wellness Program is beginning monthly wellness initiatives for all employees to participate in. BRAGS Admin Director of Marketing Peter Decoteau Peter is a fantastic marketer! He brings a lot of great ideas to our role as practice liaisons. He can see the opportunities and the challenges in obtaining referral sources. He has his hand on the pulse of each clinics’ marketing needs and has been helpful in identifying what is lacking, as well as, what works. I rely on Peter to assist me in showcasing our organization’s uniqueness and outstanding qualities. He is a wonderful teammate and I value his perspective. Bragger: Janet Tarasuk Admin Practice Liaison Janet Tarasuk Janet immediately offered her time to show me the ropes, as many times as I needed while I was transitioning, which in and of itself, is wonderful and a great example of what a team player she is. But, she didn’t just show me a few things, she reached out to check on me frequently, she absorbed extra work until I was ready to jump in and do it myself, and she did it with a smile and positive attitude. Janet is always willing to talk about strategy and to boost me and everyone around her. Janet goes out of her way to make sure I have what I need and always offers to meet me to reduce my driving time to admin if I need supplies (that is just what she does for me directly). Janet has embodied the PT for Life motto since the day I met her. Having had the opportunity to shadow her as she represents our company in numerous offices and even internally, I have seen firsthand that Janet pays close attention to how she can make the moments she spends in contact with others feel special and more joyful. She has been a great teacher and a wonderful example of how to give people a taste of our excellence and unmatched experiences, from remembering names and stories of those she visits, to balancing persistence with respect for our community partners. I am better at my job and we are better for having Janet as a part of our team. Bragger: Anonymous Essex PTA Kelley Cahill Kelley is without a doubt one of the hardest workers at PTSMC Essex. One thing that I admire about her most is her hard work and commitment to the company. During COVID when we were short staffed, she never once complained about any tasks at hand or scheduling conflicts. I admire Kelley’s hard work and appreciate all that she does for our clinic. She is always the first one to adjust her hours to help out a fellow employee or take on patients when her schedule is already full. Kelley is one of the most selfless people and I appreciate every day that I get to work with her. I think I can speak for the entire Essex Clinic when I say that she unanimously deserves this award. Bragger: Lauren MacDonald

BRAGs recognize employees’ PT for Life actions that are improving the quality of people’s lives. These individuals: Improve the patient experience Enhance the office environment Engage, interact, and communicate with patients, physicians, clients and peers Admin Director of Operations Kristen Forster I am putting Kristen forward for a Brag award as I want her to know how much she means to me. Kristen is fun to work with, we laugh, we cry (yes sometimes literally- happy tears as we laugh so hard) we figure things out together and Kristen is very supportive. No matter how busy Kristen is she always finds time to help everyone out, and we all know her email is blowing up and her phone is constantly ringing. I have had the pleasure of working with her over the last 8 years, first as a coworker and now she is my manager. I could not ask for a better person to help me, guide me and support me. Kristen you truly deserve this award and I am certain I am not alone in saying this. Thank you for everything you do – YOU ARE THE BEST. Bragger: Alison Pearce Essex PT Ann Hall During this incredibly challenging onset of COVID, Ann should be recognized for her determined and diligent pursuit and organization of our Essex clinic’s Telehealth transition. Ann works with a large portion of our elder population. Ann’s main concern is keeping her patients safe and healthy. She independently contacted her patient list to explain and encourage participation in Telehealth. She was absolutely instrumental in keeping our clinic alive and working throughout the early phase of COVID. She willingly, and thoroughly shared her experience, providing the transitional skills needed to be effective in treating our patients remotely. Ann was very successful and effective in perpetuating “PT for Life” no matter the challenging circumstance. Bravo to Ann for her exceptional determination and quick transitioning to keep her patients progressing and our clinic functioning. Bragger: Anonymous Admin VIce President of Business Development Mike Durand I have had a lot of great work experiences, and wonderful mentors in my work life, along with some not-so-great ones. Working with Mike has been an unbelievably amazing experience. He is readily accessible to me when I have questions, no matter the topic. Mike has been unwaveringly supportive throughout difficult times, not just for the company, but for our household, and always asks how best he can support my personal and professional goals. I receive not just direct and timely feedback but feel engaged in the conversation about how to improve. Any physician I speak with, any PERSON I speak with, who happens to know Mike, immediately says, “What a great guy! You’re so lucky you get to work with him!” These are people that we have business relationships with and like our product. Thank you, Mike, for all of this and so much more than I can put into writing! Bragger: Anonymous

Admin Practice Liaison Sara Gareiss The moment I met Sara, when she shadowed me for a day on the road in Waterbury, I knew she was going to be a perfect addition to our Practice Liaison team! Sara is full of positive energy and ideas! She is a great colleague and friend. When there are issues with systems or things that we could be doing better, Sara is coming up with solutions. She is an innovative thinker and team player. She brings new life to the Practice Liaison role. Working alongside her challenges me and encourages me to work smarter and think differently. I am happy to have her as my teammate! Bragger: Janet Tarasuk Admin Director of Human Resources Sandra Boccialetti Throughout the hiring, re-hiring process and everything in between, Sandra made sure I knew she was available to me day or night, weekends too! With all that had to be done and the many people who were needing her attention, to this day, I have no idea how she could remain so available to me and easy to work with. I am in awe and forever grateful to have had the smooth transition in work status that I had and especially when I compare that to the experiences I know others outside of our company did not have. Thank you! Bragger: Anonymous Admin PBA Cindy Hales I Hail to Cindy Hales. She is truly amazing. She exemplifies teamwork. Her approach and kindness speak volumes. Always willing to help where she can and teach you in the process. I call this a 2-fer. I cannot wait to meet her in person to tell her how instrumental she has been to me and my development as a PSC. She goes above and beyond all the time. We are in good hands with Cindy. All Hail to Cindy Hales. I know if she is doing it for me, she is also doing it site by site. Thank you, Cindy!!!! Bragger: Charles Brooks Danbury Partner Josh McAdams I reached out to Josh in an urgent fashion by PT standards to get my mom an appointment for acute knee pain – he was fantastic! He was available to communicate on the weekend and even with his PSC on maternity leave, helped navigate the insurance side of the patient experience. Josh has a reputation for clinical excellence and he certainly delivered. My mom has had really positive things to say about her time with Josh including his demeanor and overall knowledge. I’m so grateful to have him as part of the PTSMC family. Bragger: Juliann Chacko

Essex PSC Lauren MacDonald I would like to ‘brag’ about our PSC, Lauren MacDonald. Lauren deserves recognition for helping our clinic navigate through a difficult time during the beginning of COVID-19. During that time, Lauren transitioned from being our aide, to our front office person. As Lauren worked hard to teach her new role, she continued to work as an aide assisting the therapists and the patients. Lauren continues to do double duty. There are times our clinic is without an aide. During that time, Lauren ensures that each patient is screened and brought back for their appointment in a timely manner. Lauren ensures each patient is set up or is going through their exercises correctly. In addition to assisting with our patients, Lauren continues to answer the phone, change the laundry and schedule patients for their next visit. I enjoy working with Lauren because she is warm, caring and she makes me laugh. I enjoy how Lauren likes to decorate the gym for the staff and for our patients with each change of season. I admire her ability to multitask. Lauren not only works full-time but coaches the girls’ soccer team for our community and takes online classes. I admire Lauren as a colleague, and I am happy to call her my friend! Thank you, Lauren, for all that you do and continue to do for us! Bragger: Alyson Whelan Guilford PT Aide Kyle McCormick To list the ways that Kyle has helped our clinic over the past year would be impossible. He embodies the quintessential aide and then some. He takes on roles that no one can even fathom that aide would tackle. He organizes and plans tasks that are far beyond his job description and he has taken it upon himself to learn and perfect rehab and exercise knowledge that are far beyond his years and current “official” education level. He put in hours and work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic that were invaluable to the Guilford clinic and was honestly as important as any current therapist during this time. He deserves the most outstanding ovation for his performance and sacrifice over the past year. Bragger: Anonymous

Guilford PT Melissa Boutagy Melissa has always embodied every aspect that PTSMC values in their employees and this past year during the most trying times has been no different. Not only has she stepped up and taken on any hours that the Guilford clinic has needed, she has also taken on extra responsibilities within PTSMC as a whole. When you may have thought she could not take on any more she then accepted additional hours in the clinic to help all involved. She does so with grace and without most souls ever knowing any different. She treats with knowledge, skill, empathy and the utmost respect from her patients and current colleagues. All other therapist should strive to her level of professionalism. Bragger: Anonymous

Guilford PT Aide Noah Rattet Noah Rattet is one of the most kind, thoughtful, hardworking and FASTEST aide that I have worked with. Noah demonstrates respect for all patients and colleagues. He is eager to please, listens attentively to one’s needs and follows through in all his duties. Noah is selfless and will sacrifice personal time to accommodate the clinic’s needs whether at the front desk or gym. He is extremely productive and has impressively clocked in over 6 miles of speed walking in a given workday! Noah has great promise in his future, and we are very fortunate to have him in our Guilford office. Bragger: Jane Rosadini Middletown PT Aide Natalie Swanson Within a year and a half of being employed as an aide for PTSMC, Natalie has displayed each attribute consistent with our company motto. Each shift, she shows up and works hard to ensure each patient is attended to and the clinic is flowing efficient to provide a positive patient experience. Additionally, Natalie always volunteers as our clinic’s point person for any project we might need whether it be our pumpkin decorating contest or simply putting up picture frames. I specifically believe Natalie deserves to be recognized as she recently graduated and passed her PTA boards - unfortunately, within the current pandemic that has impacted the job market, which can be discouraging for someone who is eager to start their career following years of hard work. Despite having much unknown of what is to come within her own career, she continues to go above and beyond her aide duties and help out the clinic in any way she can. We know wherever she ends up and begins her career as a PTA she will be an asset to the team just as she is to us! Bragger: Anonymous

Guilford PT Aide Noah Rattet Noah has done a tremendous amount of work and running around for Guilford during the past few months. Unfortunately, we lost 4 full time aides at the start of the new school semester and Noah has stepped up a great deal to keep the back office staying afloat with training aides. In addition, he is running for the phone and assisting our very new front desk staff. He is strong and active as he is running around 8 miles some days in our office, to then running on the soccer field with the Guilford freshman. Not only that but then makes pizzas on the weekends and still comes in Monday ready to go. He is inspiring. Many local athletes look up to him as well as fellow aide staff. He has come through Guilford from being hired while warming up for his own PT sessions year ago, to becoming “head aide” of the clinic. We could not have done this year without Noah and will miss him when he moves on next year. He is an integral part of what makes Guilford a strong team. Bragger: Guilford Staff Lock Street Director Danielle Butsch Danielle greeted me for the first time when she met to help me onboard in my role as PL. The first thing she did was provide me with lists and relevant tools she used for the part of her territory I was taking over. She was well-planned and well spoken, all of which were wonderful and in line with what I have come to see as just a part of what everyone does at PTSMC. What set Danielle apart, was that she checked in with me frequently. She called out of the blue to see how I was doing. How she balanced her clinical time and PL time was truly inspiring and she brought such a wealth of experience to that, and then for her to step up into the lead role at Lock Street. Even in her transition into that role, she made sure to reach out to me to see how I was doing, how my family was doing and to offer support and information about her previous territory that was mine. Dani never fails to think of others, even when her plate is full. I am so lucky to have gotten to work so closely with her before the shutdown and to have made a lifelong friend! Bragger: Anonymous

Lock Street Director Danielle Butsch Danielle was my very first teammate and friend at PTSMC. We started the Practice Liaison role together and she helped motivate me to succeed in growing referrals for my clinics! Although we worked as teammates, I looked at Danielle as a mentor. She has experience as both a clinician and a marketer and excels in both! She is much more an analytical thinker than I am and that challenged me to work to balance that with my sales expertise. I am grateful to Danielle for being a sounding board and cheerleader! I am psyched that she is a Director of our Yale Health Clinic. She is an asset to this organization! Bragger: Janet Tarasuk

New London Assistant Director Michelle Gallerani Even though Michelle cannot handle her liquor, she is very much like a fine wine. The longer you know her, the more you appreciate her. She is an amazing clinician, and always willing to share her knowledge. She is passionate and caring about people she cares about including her co-workers, patients and family. If there is a patient who is medically complicated (and New London gets A LOT of those), she will ask everyone for their help and insight as well as do exhaustive research to care for that patient in the best way possible. She pushes everyone around her to be better. Bragger: Anonymous Newington PT Aide Emily Sargent Emily consistently brings a positive vibe to the clinic and she builds rapport with all of our patients from the very first session. Emily is always willing to take on tasks in the clinic, whether it be managing the supplies inventory, expanding her role in the clinic as a PSC when we need additional coverage, and coming up with new ways to add some “flare” to the clinic depending on the season. Emily deserves recognition for her hard work and willingness to offer an unmatched experience to all our patients. Bragger: Anonymous

New London PT Jeff Daley Whenever I arrived at work and Jeff was already there, I would say something super original like, “Hey, how’s it going?” And he always responded with “Better now that you’re here.” I loved hearing that in the morning! This is a perfect example of how Jeff is such a pleasant and positive person to have in the clinic. He is patient and kind with co-workers and patients. He takes the time to get to know his co-workers, and tries to see the good in everyone, even when people (other people, never me) are cranky. Bragger: Anonymous

New London Athletic Trainer Liz Saunders Liz Saunders is one of the most positive and pleasant people that has ever lived! She smiles almost constantly, and it is hard not to feel better when she is around. She is a hard worker, a caring coworker, and a dedicated clinician. She is incredibly knowledgeable and is constantly learning and bettering herself. Her athletes trust her opinion, and genuinely respect and enjoy her. Liz is an awesome example of PT for Life. Bragger: Anonymous

Newington PSC Sylwia Danowski Sylwia is a dedicated employee and a pivotal part of the PTSMC Newington team. She works tirelessly to complete PSC work and goes above and beyond to ensure that all behind the scenes paperwork is completed and organized. Sylwia continually keeps all therapists up to date on authorizations and deadlines to ensure the optimal level of efficiency for the clinic. She consistently puts the clinic’s needs before her own and will bring work home with her to ensure all deadlines are met. Sylwia’s hard work is appreciated by all and we are so grateful for all that she contributes to the PTSMC Newington team. Bragger: Christina Mogelnicki

Middletown PT Gabby Didiano Gabby is a dedicated PT that is focused solely on helping her patients feel better as well safe during these weird times. She shows up day in and day out no matter how the day, week or month is going. She continuously thinks outside the box to challenge each of her patients to help them reach their goals. Gabby will also go out of her way to help the aides by cleaning equipment or tables, showing patients what and where to complete their exercises, or simply taking someone off heat or ice, that may not have been her own patient’s. Gabby has been a huge asset to our clinic since she started. Her patients love coming back to see her and recommend her highly amongst their friends and family. Gabby demonstrates traits and actions necessary to build lifelong relationships with her patients by doing additional research on more complex conditions as well as reach out to other references for additional information. She continues to further continue her education and build her knowledge base to improve overall patient care daily. We all appreciate everything that Gabby has brought to the clinic and can’t wait for what’s to come. Bragger: Anonymous

Orange Partner Anthony Ciaburri I am extremely impressed with the leadership that Anthony has shown over these past 6 months in the Orange office. I am truly proud to work for him (and work extra hard for that matter) because he makes each employee feel valued. During the pandemic, Anthony was extremely transparent with all of us and included us in many decisions impacting our clinic. We all worked together to prevent layoffs of our physical therapists. This included Anthony “cutting” his hours (though I know he worked extremely hard outside of the clinic to keep us afloat). Anthony’s leadership is consistent, and he constantly fights for what is best for the people he leads. He is generous with family time which helps prevent burnout among his colleagues. Anthony truly models positive leadership behaviors, which make all of us extremely motivated to work hard, work as a team, and maintain a positive work environment. Bragger: Anonymous

Newington PT Aide Emily Sargent Emily has been a positive addition to the PTSMC Newington team. Emily always comes to work with a positive attitude and wiliness to work and learn. As an aide, Emily is very interactive with the patients and goes out of her way to ensure their comfort and safety during the treatment session. She is always thinking of creative ways to promote patient interaction and engagement. Recently she implemented a fun bitmoji board featuring all staff members with a Halloween themed background for patient enjoyment. Emily has also taken on an office management role in which she is a pivotal part in managing cleaning schedules and organization of exercise equipment on a daily basis. Emily is greatly appreciated by everyone at the Newington clinic! Bragger: Christina Mogelnicki

New London Partner Scott Olmstead Scott is truly a great Partner and co-worker. He is concerned for the wellbeing of his staff and patients and is always working hard to take care of everyone. When you work for Scott, you know he is looking out for you. He has had to deal with SO MUCH this past year (as we all have) and he has been positive, pleasant, kind, flexible, and generally awesome. AND, he loves Louis Capaldi! Bragger: Anonymous

Orange PT Aide Dominique Riley While all our techs do a great job of contributing to the positive environment, I want to specifically highlight the leadership of Dominique Riley. Dominique has done a great job leading our rehab techs before, during and “post”-pandemic. She has good awareness of her surroundings and makes all patients feel special. She makes my life easier by keeping track of room availability, spacing between patients, and making sure no patient is sitting idly by. She leads by example and when she is working, things seem to just flow better in the clinic. Dominique also brings in donuts and sends cheery texts to help keep her coworkers spirits up, especially during the challenging times of the pandemic. She also writes personal thank you notes to patients who make a positive impact on her life. I see Dominique as a leader in our workplace and appreciate the work she does. Bragger: Anonymous

New London PSC Abbey Roderick Abbey Roderick is an awesome PSC! She has taken over full responsibility as the only PSC in New London like a boss. She keeps Scott and everyone else in line. Even Jeff. She is always calm, never flustered. She also is the best at communicating with her eyes. Despite masks, you can always tell when she is smiling, which is often. New London is lucky to have her! Wallingford Partner Michelle Kijewski Michelle has been a fearless and open leader through extremely unexpected and unprecedented times. She chooses her employees and her clinic over everything else time and time again. I’m pretty sure that Michelle never actually hears “Thank you” when her employees say it to her. I admire her honesty and her determination throughout this rough time. Michelle never wavers in her readiness to teach, advise, or support all her employees from front end to back of house. She encompasses the ideologies of PTSMC and will always be a wonderful role model for all employees. Thank you for all that you do. Bragger: Anonymous

Southington PT Aide Danielle Jaffer Thanks for being here with me during our COVID-19 crisis. Danielle is a great asset to our office as well as PTSMC. She is constantly helping myself as well as the therapists to make things run smoothly in the office. She exceeds all our expectations and those of the patients by always being upbeat and helpful in any way that she can be. Danielle is always ready to jump in and help when we get that “rush” come through the office. Bragger: Michael Sousa

Southington PT Aides Danielle Jaffer, Sammi Seger and Chloe Stanish These three clinic aides are one of the main reasons Southington runs smoothly. They are constantly hustling and at times can even be seen jogging over to the phone to catch the call when the front desk is busy. They go out of their way to have conversations with patients to help make them feel at ease in the clinic. These things all add up to help create a good working environment for staff and patients! Bragger: Anonymous

Wallingford PT Bailey McPherson Bailey has not only picked up the slack in a busy clinical setting when the need was there, but she’s done the little things for fellow employees during hard times. She has a thoughtful and professional approach to being a great colleague, and she makes sure that both her patients and fellow staff are taken care of. Even though she doesn’t perform these small acts of kindness for the recognition, she should be recognized for simply being a great person. Bragger: Anonymous Wallingford PSA Vicki Palmieri Vicki is a rock; she is dependable and flexible. Vicki has moved her schedule around numerous times to allow the clinic to run effectively and efficiently without complaint. Vicki also makes it a point to get to know all the patients that come through our door not only as a patient but as a person, learning their childrens’ names, their hobbies, and overall well-being. She is the perfect initial contact person to start a patient’s experience at PTSMC and we are lucky to have her. Bragger: Anonymous

Southington PT Aide Sammi Seger Sammi goes above and beyond to help me in any way she can, even when it’s extremely busy. She exceeds the PTSMC for Life moto by always going that extra step for the patients‘ and therapists’ needs. She is always happy, in a great mood and brings positive vibes to the clinic. Sammi is such a joy to have in the clinic. Bragger: Anonymous

Wallingford PT Aide Mia Martinez Mia is able to juggle grad school, two dogs, clinic visits, numerous club participations and PTSMC hours without complaint and with grace and determination. I never see Mia waver in energy or effort. She has truly stepped up to the plate during these unpredictable times learning front of staff duties and keeping the back of house running smoothly. Without Mia in the gym, the PTs would not be able to do our job and our patients would not be able to have the wonderful experience that they all claim to have. I constantly catch Mia asking a patient about plans they had discussed before, how their children are doing, or how different hobbies are going. She remembers important details about everyone and casually works these into conversation effortlessly. She truly is the PT for life experience because patients feel that she is a part of their family. I thank her for being the wonderful person that she is. Bragger: Anonymous

Wallingford PT Aide Nikki Matarazzo Nikki is a Wonder Woman. She has left another occupation to take on more hours for us at PTSMC, not only because she acknowledges our need for extra help but because she loves the environment our clinic has. She brings a vital energy to the clinic. Nikki will take on any task that is asked of her with a smile on her face. She knows all our patients and always makes sure to stop and take the time to talk to them and not just complete a task and move on. Nikki is selfless and does everything without needing praise. I doubt she ever hears us thanking her for her hard work. She is an asset to the company and to each patient she interacts with. Bragger: Anonymous

Wallingford PT Aide Naomi Rascati Naomi is our cleaning queen. She has met the demands of COVID with a smile on her face and she keeps the clinic cleaner than it has ever been before. Naomi brings laughter and joy to the clinic with this Cinderella spirit. She has stepped into more hours on top of juggling home schooling her sister’s children without a notice of sweat or tears. She is a mini Super Woman in disguise. Naomi is a huge asset to our office, and we thank her for all that she does. Bragger: Anonymous

Watertown PT Aide Anthony Lucia Anthony is an aide that works with us in Watertown. He started back in August 2019 and he has excelled ever since. With the pandemic, our aide staff has drastically changed. He is the only aide left that isn’t new - everyone else has recently started within the last few months. Anthony has trained all of them and picked up all the slack as they were all learning the exercises and job responsibilities. He is constantly 10 steps ahead and 90% of the time knows what each of the therapists need without even asking. Anthony has stayed late on multiple occasions to make sure that the clinic will run smoothly when he is not here and he always steps up and takes on extra hours if we are short staffed. He is a great asset to our clinic and a pleasure to work with on a daily basis. Bragger: Lindsey Scianna Watertown PT Kristina Lipeika I would like to acknowledge Kristina’s hard work and dedication to the Watertown clinic and PTSMC as a company. During the pandemic multiple staff members were out on leave for various reasons and Kristina took whatever patients came her way and has learned the ins and outs of telehealth to be able to provide care both in person and virtually. She continues to offer telehealth options on her days off for those patients who are not comfortable coming into the clinic. She repeatedly takes on multiple students throughout the year and has mentored (and continues to do so) many new physical therapists for the company. She provides excellent care and puts patients’ needs above her own, often staying late or missing lunch in order to appropriately care for her patients. She is a caring and compassionate person and is an asset to this company. Bragger: Lindsey Scianna

Watertown PSC Lauren Mariotti Lauren started working with us part time a few years ago and quickly became full time to assist Kate Carlson with the front desk. Lauren has had to step up and take on more responsibility, first when Kate went on maternity leave and now a second time back in January when Kate left to become a stay at home mom. She has done an amazing job staying on top of all aspects of the front desk, from acquiring authorizations to making sure all the therapists get their notes done to balancing mid-month and end of month as well as many, many other tasks. She is someone that I am able to go to with all sorts of questions regarding scheduling and insurance and if she isn’t able to answer it she makes sure that she contacts someone who can. She has also had to train multiple people over the last several months as our staff has changed which has put even more on her plate. She has been doing a great job with all of her new responsibilities and I wanted to make sure she is recognized and thanked for all of her hard work. Bragger: Lindsey Scianna

Windsor PSA Kasey Bascetta When it comes to the Windsor office, we all know who is the true “boss” of the clinic. We all know that Kasey has been with the company for 10 years and we are so lucky to have her with our clinic. Instead of us all doing individual BRAGs we all collectively put together our Windsor BRAG. It all starts with our end of the year staff meeting for 2019-2020 season. Brian asked us all to come to the meeting with a quick summary of “who is your role model or hero and why.” While the group went around to describe who their role model is, one team member stated “I know she doesn’t like the spot light, but my biggest role model would be Kasey. She has a strong work ethic and is always doing the little things behind the scenes to make sure everything is running smoothly. Kasey never expects a thank you, she simply does these things out of the goodness of her heart. She is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure everyone, and everything, is cared for. Her selflessness is truly admirable. Kasey is secretly witty and always cracks the best jokes when you least expect it, but she is also someone that everyone feels comfortable confiding in.” Brian wrapped up our staff meeting by saying “There is no commitment without a connection, and a connection is the foundation of a successful team.” Kasey has some kind of connection with every single staff member at the Windsor clinic. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that she makes us all feel listened to, she makes us all feel valued, and she certainly makes us all laugh. Another member of the team explains “Kasey holds our office together and does so much for every member of our team. As an aide, I really appreciate the times she is stepped in to help when it’s busy without me even asking. It’s nice to see that she has my back and goes above and beyond to make sure the office is running smoothly!” From seasoned aides to new aides - we all could not do our jobs effectively if it was not for Kasey. The next message is from a newer member of the team stating “thank you so much Kasey for taking the time to answer all my questions and helping me get adjusted in my first month at the clinic! Really appreciate everything you do for the office.” The PTs would be just as lost without Kasey Just like a cup of coffee complements a morning, Kasey is our coffee that keeps us moving forward, on track, and rolling the way we need to. Best of all, she does so much in her everyday obligations, that she doesn’t stop or require any acknowledgment. She doesn’t realize how much she means to us and how much we need her. She makes her daily work seem so effortless and she does all of this without asking for anything in return well, maybe just to have our documentation in on time. Without Kasey, I think I can speak for everyone in saying that our days would be that much more stressful, busy, and taxing. Plus, her subtle “that’s what she said” jokes, her chuckles behind the desk, and her googling capabilities that keep our clinic conversations rolling, Kasey is vital in so many ways beyond just her daily tasks. In fact, without her, the office would not be anywhere near the same. So for that, thank you for your 10 years, Kasey. Just know how appreciated you are! It goes without saying and it is extremely evident by everyone’s words, we are beyond lucky to have Kasey. In fact, we think everyone NEEDS a Kasey. She never lets a birthday go unnoticed and she always knows how to brighten up a room. From all of us in Windsor, thank you for the laughs, thank you for your kind heart, thank you for being you, and thank you for being the reason. Braggers: Windsor Staff
