The 20 Most Expensive Wines in the World

WANT TO KNOW THE MOST EXPENSIVE WINES OF ALL TIME? If you’re looking to spend a little cash on something extravagant or you want to impress a dinner guest, then adding one of these bottles of wine to your collection should do the trick. However, a word of warning,… you’re going to need at least $6,000 to even consider purchasing one! Here’s a list of the 20 most expensive wines in the world… The list of wines and figures mentioned below have been compiled from various sources around the web, such as Beautiful Life & Finances Online.

18

PROVOCATIVE SOCIETY May 2020

These are the 20 most expensive wines in the world:

20. Screaming Eagle Sauvignon Blanc – $5,850

Starting off our list is the most expensive Sauvignon Blanc in the world – Screaming Eagle Sauvignon Blanc. A bottle of this stuff will cost you a cool $5,850. This wine originates from Oakville, which is a small town in the United States, between Rutherford and Yountville. The wine is produced in limited quantities every year and then sold to private buyers are loyal fans.

This page: A taste of the most expensive luxury wines. Opposit page from top to bottom: #18 on the list is Domaine Leroy Chambertin Grand Cru 1990 – $7,447. Coming in at #6 Chateau Margaux 1787 at $225,000.

(LUXURY) 19. 1949 Domaine Leroy Richebourg Grand Cru – $5,921

Next up, we have a bottle of wine that is only produced for the wealthy: around 700 bottles are made annually. Adding to the charm of this vintage wine and boosting its price is its post-world war appeal, which provides the wine with some historical character and a higher perceived value.

18. Domaine Leroy Chambertin Grand Cru 1990 – $7,447 The 1949 Domaine Leroy Richebourg Grand Cru is slightly more expensive than the previous 1949 Domaine. The grapes are harvested from the Pinot Noir vineyards of Chambertin Grand Cru, which are very exclusive vineyards.

It has a deep, rich scent of plums, red cherries and spices and is the eighteenth most expensive wine in the world!

17. Domaine Georges & Christophe Roumier Musigny Grand Cru 1990 – $11,720

Le Musigny vineyard only produces 380 bottles a year of this vintage Pinot Noir, helping to maintain its exclusivity. The hot temperature of the year gave the grapes more concentration, thicker skins, flavour, and tannin. Therefore, if you’re looking for a wine that will go well with duck or any game birds, then this would be a perfect choice, presuming you have a spare $11,720!

16. Scharzhofberger Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese – $13,615

Produced by German producer Egon Muller, the Scharzhofberger Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese will set you back $13,615. The wine is best known for having individual floral notes, a lime syrup taste and texture, and a deep intense impact when you drink it. Being one of the most expensive wines in the world, it should have a pretty big impact!

May 2020 PROVOCATIVE SOCIETY

19

(LUXURY) 15. Domaine Leroy Musigny Grand Cru 2012 – $14,450

Described as a magical and sumptuous wine, the Grand Cru has a flowery taste and a gentle, silky texture. If we were to sell the wine based on the state’s reputation alone, then it’s without a doubt worth every drop. However, the hot tail-end of the summer in 2012 provided this wine with robustness like no other, so it can demand such a high price. 14. Domaine de la

Romanee-Conti Romanee-Conti Grand Cru 1990 – $21,200

Next on the list of the most expensive wines in the world is the Romanee-Conti Romanee-Conti Grand Cru 1990. A bottle of this vintage red will cost you $21,200, but according to experts, it’s well worth the investment. 1990 produced a fantastic wine, due to a well-balanced harvest, rich in plentiful healthy grapes.

13. Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1951 – $38,000

The first Australian wine on the list is the Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1951. With only 20 bottles in known existence, this is also one of the rarest wines on the planet, therefore it’s price reflects it’s limited status. The Hermitage is regarded by many as one of Australias finest wines and is best described as predominantly Shiraz with a hint of Cabernet Sauvignon.

20

PROVOCATIVE SOCIETY May 2020

This page: #8 on the list Chateau Lafite 1787 for $156,450. Opposite page: #10 is Cheval Blanc St-Emilion 1947 for $135,125

12. Chateau D’YQUEM – $117,000

The next bottle of wine is pretty cool, as it holds a Guinness World Record for being the most expensive bottle of white wine ever sold. It sold for $117,000 by the Antique Wine Company to Christian Vanneque, a world-renowned wine connoisseur. It has such a large price tag because it was harvested in 1811 at the Chateau d’Yquem, which was such a good harvest that many people claimed it to be the best white wine ever created.

11. Romanee Conti 1945 – $123,900

Next up we have the 1945 Romanee Conti, which is super expensive due to the legendary vines of the Romanee Conti being destroyed by Phylloxera in 1946. Therefore, only 600 bottles could be manufactured before the vineyards could sell wine again in 1952. Normal bottles can be purchased for $7,500. However, the one true original, owned by Audebet de Villaine sold at auction in 2007 for $123,900!

(LUXURY)

 10. Cheval Blanc St-Emilion 1947 – $135,125 Occupying the tenth position is a world-class vintage wine, that sold for $135,125 in 2006. It is one of only two wines that have ever been granted Class A status in the Classification of Saint-Emilion wine.

As far as we know, just 110,000 bottles were produced and only a few have managed to survive. Considered by the best sommeliers in the world as the finest Cheval Blanc in the twentieth century, the Cheval Blanc St-Emilion 1947 has a sensual flavour and luxurious texture. (LUXURY)

9. Henri Jayer, Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1999 — $136,955

6. Chateau Margaux 1787 –

$225,000

This bottle of wine can no longer be bought by any amount of money. Unfortunately, it was knocked over by a waiter during a Margaux dinner in a Four Season Hotel. It was said to be the most expensive wine unsold and is thought to be another bottle from Jefferson’s collection. The owner originally valued it at $500,000, however, it’s actual value was lowered to $225,000, as this was the amount insurers paid.

Number nine on the list is actually a bit of a bargain, as the buyer got a whole case of wine, instead of one individual bottle. The case of Cros Parantoux sold for $136,955 at a Christie’s Hong Kong wine sale. It was produced in the heart of France’s Burgundy wine region and, I’m sure, made the buyer a very happy chappy indeed! 8. Chateau Lafite 1787 –

5. Chateau Lafite 1869 – $230,000

$156,450

Dubbed as the most expensive “standard” bottle of wine in the world, the vintage Chateau Lafite 1787 is thought to be from Thomas Jefferson’s cellar! This theory comes from his initials (ThJ) being etched into the glass and his well-known love and passion for wine. The Chateau Lafite 1787 was purchased by publisher tycoon Malcolm Forbes in 1985, and is one of the most expensive wines in the world!

This bottle of wine caused quite a stir when it went up for auction in Hong Kong. Auctioneers only anticipated it to reach a respectful $8,000, however, to their surprise, an anonymous bidder from Asia claimed the highest bid – $230,000. In Asia, the Chateau Lafite 1869 is considered by many to be extremely rare, so bidders were willing to pay big money to secure one of the worlds most expensive wines.

7. A mpoule from Penfolds – $168,000

Each one of these extraordinary bottles of wine costs $168,000. Released by South Australia’s most famous winery, Penfolds, the wine does not have much of history, instead, it relies on the experience, presentation and reputation of the brand. Tasting the wine is meant to be an experience in itself, as you have to break off a small piece of wood before you even begin to get to the wine.

22

PROVOCATIVE SOCIETY May 2020

4. Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck – $275,000 # 2 on the list is this bottle of Jeroboam of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 1945 for $310,000.

$275,000 for a bottle of wine would seem ridiculous to most, however, this wine has a very unique and exciting story which easily justifies the price. In 1916, a ship carrying the wine was torpedoed by a German submarine in the First World War, causing it to sink to the bottom of the ocean for over 80 years. The wreckage was discovered in

(LUXURY) 1997 and 2,000 bottles were saved. So, even if you can’t drink it, $275,000 gets you an incredible piece of history and a fantastic story to tell at dinner parties.

3. Cheval Blanc 1947 – $305,000

Coming in at number three on our list of most expensive wines is the 1947 Chateau Cheval Blanc. Considered to be the “best Bordeaux ever made”, it was sold at auction to an anonymous buyer for $303,375. Being the recipient of the exclusive Premier Grand Cru Classe (A) rank in the Classification of Saint-Emilion wine in 2012, Chateau Cheval Blanc is well regarded as one of the most prestigious winemakers in the world!

2. Jeroboam of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 1945 – $310,000

Originating from the vineyards of the richest family on earth, it’s no surprise that this bottle of wine has such an outrageous price tag. With symbolism on the label indicating the victory of the Allied forces in the Second World War, the wine is said to be one of the best vintages of the last 100 years. If you can’t quite afford to buy a bottle, then why not try a glass for $8,631! I’ll take two then!

1. Screaming Eagle Cabernet 1992 – $500,000

Costing a whopping $500,000 dollars for a single bottle, the most expensive wine in the world costs more than an average home! Over the years the cabernet has topped several of the worlds most expensive wine lists. It eventually sold at a charity auction in 2000. The wine is aged in 60% new oak and has an aroma of blackcurrants, a subtle trace of oak and an opaque purple appearance.

Summary We hope you enjoyed our list of the 20 most expensive wines in the world. Wine is loved by many, but only a certain few can enjoy these select beauties. Perhaps, that’s you? If you manage to get your hands on one, have a drink on us and let us know what’s it’s like! Here’s a quick recap of the 20 most expensive wines in the world! 1. Screaming Eagle Cabernet 1992 – $500,000 2. Jeroboam of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 1945 – $310,000 3. Cheval Blanc 1947 – $305,000 4. Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck – $275,000 5. Exploring an art ambassador’s world

T

ripp Derrick Barnes is a South Carolina-born, New York City-based multimedia artist working at the intersection of Art, Entertainment, and Technology. His specialties include painting, murals, Virtual Reality, video production, interactive experiences, performance art, and Augmented Reality experiences. In Tripp’s world, anything is possible. Since the loss of his younger brother at age thirteen, Tripp made art a transformative process to overcome pain and pay to tribute life. He became fascinated with film as documentation of the present and an act of protest against forgetting, leading him to pursue a degree at Savannah College of Art and Design. One of the most inspirational courses he completed at SCAD was a figure drawing class, one that included rapid, prolific

gesture drawing sessions that invited creative interpretation. The fast pace and “anything goes” spirit of the exercise tapped an energetic well of response that he didn’t realize was in him. He began producing piles of colorful, quirky drawings at twice the rate of his classmates. This experience inspired him to look beyond film and explore possibilities that would soon lead to a successful career in multi-discipline art. Tripp’s journey to artistic distinction was not direct. After graduating with a major in Sound Design and minor in Film, he took a six-month

backpacking trip through sixteen countries to explore diverse cultures. Soon after his return, he established a home in New York and worked on films such as The Dark Knight and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. While working in production, Tripp simultaneously collaborated with artist and mentor Dr. Steven Swancoat in the basement of an Upper West Side brownstone. Tripp eventually made the jump from production to full time artist, his success has allowed him to culti-

Tripp still uses his production and film education to create his own avant-garde videos for entertaining his 62K+ followers on Instagram. In recent years, Tripp has expanded his painting beyond the boundaries of a canvas. He paints murals throughout the United States with intent to create a vibrant impact in varied communities. Tripp also produces live painting experiences for brands and company engagements, with quite a range of creative exploration and interactions with his audiences. Recent experiences include painting a tower of eleven vintage suitcases for a boutique travel show, guiding event-goers to paint their own wine bottles at USA Today’s Food & Wine Festival, and live painting in collaboration with a Grammy-nominated pianist for the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. Additionally, Tripp has ventured into the Augmented Reality and

(ART) Virtual Reality spheres by creating surreal, imaginative worlds. He views VR as the future of art, entertainment, and technology, and takes pride in introducing VR to anyone who visits his studio. With painting, one is limited to certain economic and physical restraints; With VR, creativity is limitless. Tripp’s artwork is inspired by our culture and surroundings, as well as a desire to push the boundaries of what art can be. Using bright and vivid colors, his artwork strives to create a positive experience for his viewers. Tripp’s visual energy evokes a universal message to viewers: Even when the world feels heavy, we are empowered to uncover the light side of existence. Tripp’s work has been featured on Good Morning America, Bravo, and Lifetime’s Project Runway. His paintings have been displayed at Art Basel Miami, 212Gallery, SPIN NY, the Andaz Hotel, and many more. How To Achieve the Ultimate Smile

W

e all want to look our fashionable best and that includes having pearly whites, which is why we’re turning to former White House periodontist Dr. Nicholas Toscano for dental care tips for a brighter smile, suggestions on home teeth whiteners that work, and more. Provocative Society: What are some things we can do in the short term to help us get a great smile? Dr. Nicholas Toscano: #1 is your dental hygiene. If you want to keep your great smile, you need to visit

your dentist on a regular basis. Proper hygiene is a must when trying to achieve a perfect smile. Many of the problems that prevent us from having the beautiful smile we desire originate in a careless teeth cleaning routine. Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day is critical to a healthy and beautiful smile. Regular flossing will help you get rid of 40% of bacteria. Since most cavities appear between the teeth, it’s essential to include flossing in our teeth cleaning routine. Cleaning your teeth is not only important in keeping your teeth white and free of cavities, it’s also important to remove the bacteria from below the gum line that research studies have shown may cause heart disease, strokes, pre-term low birth weight babies, and many other diseases that can effect your overall general health. PS: How can we deal with tooth stains? NT: With age, the enamel on teeth becomes thinner and more transparent and the inner layer, called dentin (dentin is naturally yellow in color), looks darker. Teeth also absorb colored liquids throughout your life causing intrinsic staining of the teeth, which is hard to remove. Coffee, tea, soda, and red wine are

46

PROVOCATIVE SOCIETY May 2020

(LIFESTYLE)

47

(LIFESTYLE) frequent culprits, along with more tenacious tobacco stains. Extrinsic stains can be easily solved by maintaining a good hygiene regimen or getting regular teeth cleanings (every 3 months) by your dentist. On the other hand, intrinsic stains may be more difficult to manage. Intrinsic stains are cased by certain foods and drinks who manage to get into the enamel causing discoloration and become more difficult to remove.

Wine, coffee, tea, soda, chocolate, or tobacco, are notorious teeth stainers that should be avoided as much as possible, especially before important events when you will be in the spotlight and you must look your best. Avoiding these foods and drinks a few days before an important event as well as using a whitening toothpaste will have a dramatic effect on the way your teeth will look. PS: What’s the deal with teeth bleaching?
NT: It’s not a secret that many models often turn to expensive teeth whitening treatments in order to get a perfect smile. Professional teeth bleaching procedures are expensive and can reach up to $1200 per visit. Treatments such as BriteSmile and Zoom are highly popular and their advantage is instant whitening in one visit. If you’re not in a hurry, there are plenty over-the-counter bleaching kits that are only the fraction of the cost of a professional treatment and they can provide very satisfactory whitening that takes a week or two to complete.

48

PROVOCATIVE SOCIETY May 2020

PS: Can you talk about cosmetic veneers? NT: Cosmetic veneers are among the most popular methods that Supermodels and Hollywood stars use in order to hide imperfections and to improve their smile. Veneers are thin layers of porcelain that cover the teeth surface, being able to solve a variety of problems from misshaped, chipped, or cracked teeth to teeth discoloration.

For this procedure, the teeth are shaped by removing a thin layer of enamel to be able to place the cosmetic veneers. The veneers adhere to the teeth, becoming a part of it. Porcelain veneers are very durable, being able to last up to 10 years before needing to be replaced. As an added benefit, cosmetic veneers will be more resistant to stains.
PS: For over the counter bleaching or whitening, what are your favorite kits? NT: Crest 3D White Whitestrips Advanced Vivid, which are worn for 30 minutes a day, for 14 days. On average, they lighten your teeth about three to four shades. If you’re willing to pay a little more, GO SMiLE Whitening Tooth System is another option. It consists of individual tubes of teeth whitening gel with attached applicators. The gel is squeezed onto the applicator and then scrubbed onto the teeth. It is designed to stay on teeth and naturally dissolve so it doesn’t have to be removed. PS

1. Making expensive watches requires months of research and design.

One thing we usually take for granted about expensive watches is the team of scientists and researchers behind the watch’s tech. They spend plenty of time researching how to make those hands tick. Sometimes, it would take not just months, but years to create a reliable movement. Apart from the research, the team also has to do a series of tests and experiments. These also require both time and money.

2. Expensive watches are made in a limited number.

A lot of the expensive watches on this list are rare. This is the reason why limited-edition models cost a lot more even though the only tweaks they have are very simple. One good example is the Rolex with Tiffany dial. Technically speaking, it is a normal Rolex Day-Date. The only difference is the printed logo on the dial which could not have cost more than $100 in manufacturing. But how come the price difference is insane? Surprisingly, the only reason it costs more is that it’s rare.

3. The materials used are also expensive.

Take two units of the same watch. Let’s say that the first one is made out of solid gold while the other one is made out of stainless steel. Which one do you think will cost more? If you answered the first one, then you’re correct. The material used to make the watch can make a lot of difference in the price even though it’s the same model. In conclusion, expensive watches are made with expensive materials.

4. Expensive watches exhibit excellent craftsmanship.

A single Rolex watch takes a year to make. Imagine how much effort was put into assembling your watch. In fact, it’s not only Rolex. Other expensive watches are usually handmade. Furthermore, some brands take it a notch further and add intricate details like engravings, and gemstones. These require skill and precision thus adding a lot to the value of a watch.

5. Expensive watches are made by reliable brands.

Here is one pill that’s hard to swallow: sometimes, we pay extra for the name or brand of the watch. But don’t worry, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Some collectors think it’s well worth the money if the brand has a rich pedigree of watchmaking behind their name.

You might be wondering what the most expensive watches are and what made them so expensive. So without further ado, here are the 15 most expensive watches this year (2020).

15. Breguet Antique Number 2667 – $4.5 Million

One of the oldest in this list is the Breguet Antique Number 2667 which dates way back in 1814. This pocket watch features an 18K yellow gold case and features two oscillating bodies. The movement used for this pocket watch is unique during the time it was designed. It consists of a 26″ gilded brass manufacture with two mechanisms inside a single plate. According to experts, it is fully-jewelled and is considered a huge step in horological technology.

14. Louis Moinet Meteoris – $4.6 Million

Instead of just one watch, the Louis Moinet Meteoris is a set of four expensive watches that are sold as a bundle. Each model depicts the solar system in their own different May 2020 PROVOCATIVE SOCIETY

The planetarium that doubles as a display case for the four watches also comes with the set. These watches are out of this world (literally). Aside from the unique materials used to make them, another factor for the expensive price tag is their rarity. Photo from thejewelleryeditor.com

13. Hublot Big Bang Diamond – $5 Million

Hublot’s Big Bang Diamond watch definitely delivers with a bang. The brand even claims that it’s the most precious and timepiece they have created. Its 44mm white gold case is adorned with 302 baguette diamonds. Meanwhile, the dial has 179 diamonds and the strap has 782 baguette diamonds with an additional six emerald-cut ones. Finally, the crown has 12 more baguettes and a rose-cut diamond. That’s a total of

12. Patek Philippe Calibre 89 – $5.5 Million

The watchmakers of Patek created the Patek Philippe Calibre 89 as a 150th birthday gift to the brand. This pocket watch features 33 complications, 24 hands, and 1,728 components in total! Because of that, people consider it as one of the most complicated watches in the world. Four versions of the watch were made and these vary in the materials used. One was made with yellow gold and another with rose gold. The third one was made with platinum and the last one was white gold. It took the watchmakers five years to research and develop this watch. Then it took another four years to manufacture. We have to say that all

those years of research were worth it because it landed on the list of most expensive watches. Photo from patekphilippe2015watches.blogspot.com

11. Patek Philippe Ref. 1527 – $5.7 Million

The Patek Philippe Ref. 1527 is one of the rarest and most expensive watches made by the brand. This model served as a design inspiration for many of Patek’s iconic models. Another intriguing thing about this watch is its history. Watch enthusiasts have learned that this watch is one out of two Ref. 1527 watches. The first version was commissioned by Charles Stern, former chairman of Patek. The watch is now stored in the Patek Philippe museum in Switzerland. The one on this list is the second version. It is a lot pricier than the former due to the added chronograph complication. As a matter of fact, this watch was sold at Christie’s Geneva for $5,708,885. (LUXURY) 10. V acheron Constantin 57260 – $8 Million

The Vacheron Constantin 57260 is currently the most complicated watch in the world. It has 57 complications that include alarm functions, astronomical calendar functions, and time measurement functions among others. Out of the 57 complications, 10 of these are brand new and were introduced by Vacheron Constantin. An incredible feat is that it’s made by only three watchmakers. These people have dedicated eight years of their lives to create this masterpiece. In spite of the many complications, the dial of the watch remained visually pleasing. Indeed, this watch is a mark of Vacheron Constantin’s excellence in watchmaking and artistry. Photo from watchcollectinglifestyle.com

9. Patek Philippe Ref. 1518 in Stainless Steel – $11 Million

It’s no question that the Patek Philippe Ref. 1518 in stainless steel is one of the most sought-after horological pieces. The fact that it is the only perpetual calendar chronograph watch that’s made in such metal made it appealing. In fact, some people would even claim that this model is the most complicated stainless steel watch as high-complication watches are usually made with precious metals. Now, there are only four known units of this model. And as discussed above, rarity plays a big part in a watch’s value and it was definitely a factor when the watch

was sold for a jaw-breaking $11 million at an auction. Photo from forbes.com

8. Paul Newman Rolex Daytona – $17.6 Million

It’s a given that Rolex Daytonas are popular. But there’s a special kind of Daytona that fetches a lot more money. The model in question is the Paul Newman Rolex Daytona. The history behind it is unclear. Some say that it was given to Paul Newman by Joanne Woodward when he started racing. While some say that it was given to him while filming Winning in 1968 or 1969. We may not be sure which version is true, but we’re sure about one thing. The Paul Newman Daytona once broke the record for the most expensive wristwatch sold at an auction. Photo from forbes.com

(LUXURY) 6. Patek Philippe Henry Graves Supercomplication – $24 Million

4. Jaeger-LeCoultre Joaillerie 101 Manchette – $26 Million

There’s a reason why it bears the word “super” in its name. The Patek Philippe Henry Graves Supercomplication is one of the most complicated watches in the world. Commissioned by and named after Henry Graves Jr, this pocket watch took a total of eight years to finish. Overall, it has 24 different complications. That includes Westminster chimes, a perpetual calendar, and sunrise and sunset times. Apart from those, this watch includes a personalized celestial map of New York as seen from the apartment of Henry Graves on Fifth Avenue. Photo from boringparty.com

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Joaillerie 101 Manchette is a silver bracelet with a small hand-wound clock on it. Although it’s small, the dial of the clock is protected by sapphire glass. Meanwhile, the bracelet is made with pure white gold. It is also embedded with 11 onyx gemstones and a whopping 576 pieces of diamonds. When it comes to the watch’s timekeeping abilities, it is fitted with the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 101. That calibre is remarkable for being one of the smallest movements in the world. 3. Breguet Grande Complication Marie-Antoinette – $30 Million

5. Chopard 201-Carat Watch – $25 Million

Not all that glitters is gold. Sometimes, it’s the Chopard 201ct watch! This colourful timepiece is covered in 874 high-grade diamonds in various colours. They come in hues of yellow, blue, pink, among others. Within those stones, there are three bigger diamonds in the middle, and all of them are heart-shaped. Aside from being one of the most expensive watches, the Breguet No. 160 Grand Complication, A.K.A. the Marie Antoinette, is also one of the most iconic. To illustrate, the construction of the watch finished in 1827 yet its technology was way ahead of its time. This is the reason why people call this masterpiece a “poem in clockwork” and is considered as one of the most important timepieces ever made. This self-winding pocket watch contained every single complication known during that time. And those functions are the following: • Clock • Perpetual calendar • Minute repeater • Thermometer • Chronograph • Power reserve

(LUXURY)

• P are-Chute (Breguet’s own shock

protection system) • Chime • Independent seconds hand Behind its features is an interesting story. Legend has it that the watch was commissioned by Count Hans Axel von Fersen, an alleged lover of the former queen of France Marie Antoinette. The watch was supposed to be a gift for the monarch. But due to unfortunate events, Marie Antoinette did not live to see the watch as it was finished 34 years after her execution. Photo from forbes.com

2. Graff Diamonds The Fascination – $40 Million

Graff shows off their creativity with this 2-in-1 accessory which is the second most expensive watch called The Fascination. And in all fairness, it definitely fascinated us! At its original form, it is an exquisite timepiece studded with stones. These stones are made with 152.96 carats of fine white dia-

monds. But the dial in the centre takes the spotlight. The dial is made with rare 38.13ct D Flawless pear-shaped diamond that’s polished and cut by Graff. If you accidentally remove the centrepiece, don’t panic. You didn’t break it. In fact, it was intentional. You’ll be enchanted once you realise that the removable part can be worn as a ring! The feat was so impressive that Forbes described it as “a masterful work of metallurgy and gem setting”. It’s no wonder why it is one of the most expensive watches this 2020. 1. Graff Diamonds Hallucination – $55 Million

You are not hallucinating. Despite its name, the Graff Diamonds Hallucination costs $55 million and it takes the number one spot on the list of expensive watches. Graff unveiled this multicoloured timepiece during Baselword in 2014.

At first glance, it looks more like jewellery than a watch. The whole unit is adorned with rare diamonds amounting to a total of 110 carats. But that’s not all. If you look closely, you’ll see that the diamonds are cut into different shapes like heart, marquise, diamond, etc. These were placed one-by-one by hand by professional gem setters. In the middle of it all is the watch’s dial that is surrounded by pink diamonds. It is powered by an accurate quartz movement. In the market for a dive watch? Check out our review of the Rolex Submariner 114060! Don’t worry! This one’s not as expensive as the ones on this list. PS
