— FROM THE DIRECTOR — On behalf of the Lower School Performing Arts Department, we welcome you to our program this evening. Our students have worked diligently to bring you their best effort! Just as the Wise Men brought their best gifts to the manger in worship of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, our prayer is that you will be blessed by the gifts our students bring to you tonight. The Bible teaches that “In love, He Dee Dee Tamburrino predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons and Music Specialist daughters through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved (Jesus). In Him, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our sins, according to the riches of His grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His purpose, which He set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth.” (Ephesians 1:5-10) One of the songs in our program is entitled, “Orphans of God.” The lyric says, “There are no strangers, there are no outcasts, there are no orphans of God.” In my heart of hearts, I believe this to be true. Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior? You can know Him today. Let this be the day of your salvation.

The Providence School 5th Grade Exploratory Band meets two days a week during the school day and is a great way to get an early start learning a wind or percussion instrument. This year we have many talented students in our group and I have no doubt that they have bright musical futures as we continue to grow the band program in quantity and quality. Jonathan Maerkl Just recently, 8th grader Natalie Johnson was Band Specialist selected by audition for the Florida Middle School All-State Band. (The auditions take place in September, those accepted are notified in November, and the event takes place in January.) She is only the second student to be selected for All-State Band in the 20+ history of Providence School. Natalie got her start on the clarinet in Mr. Maerkl’s 5th grade band. This is the kind of accomplishments that we can continue to look forward to from our young instrumental musicians. Mr. Maerkl is in his 18th year of teaching and 5th year at Providence. He has taught music to students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Bands under his direction have performed at The National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C. and the Festival at Carnegie Hall in New York, NY. Mr. Maerkl is excited to continue to build the band program at Providence School by providing students access to the best quality instruments, music, and instruction. Mr. Maerkl has a strong focus on individual musicianship, knowing that if each individual is strong then we can have a great band, and that individual musicianship is the aspect of music education that gives students the most access to opportunities for continued performance and scholarships after high school.
