SCHOOL PROFILE Providence School is a Christian, private, college preparatory school serving over 1,300 students in grades PreK-12. Since opening in 1997, Providence has developed into one of the premier private schools in Florida. Continued growth in academics, athletics, and fine arts have elevated Providence students to the highest level of achievement. Providence is located near the beaches in Northeast Florida in the city of Jacksonville. As in prior years, the graduating class of 2018 achieved 100 percent college acceptance. These students are furthering their education in 39 different colleges, universities, and service academies around the nation. Typically, our graduating classes earn millions in scholarships annually. Providence students consistently score above state and national averages on college entry exams. Admission is selective, based on aptitude and achievement for potential college preparatory work. CURRICULUM Providence School is a college preparatory learning environment. Our curriculum is offered at varied levels, from college preparatory to Advanced Placement and is rigorous in content. The Upper School operates on a two-semester system. Upper School students take comprehensive exams at the end of each term. The average school day is divided into seven 47-minute class periods. Any class not having one of the previous designations is considered a college preparatory course. A cumulative weighted and un-weighted GPA are provided on the transcript. All courses taken are used in GPA calculations. Honors (H) courses receive an additional .5 weight, Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment (DE) courses receive an additional 1.0 weight. Dual Enrollment courses were introduced at Providence in the 2017-18 school year.
