Norm Cahill and Nagambie Primary School awarded top honours at Tennis Victoria Champions Dinner 88 year old, Norm Cahill has claimed a memorable win at the Tennis Victoria Champions Dinner by being named 2019 Victorian Spirit of Tennis. A prestigious award with a rich history, the award has been presented to the likes of Frank Sedgman (1980), Judy Dalton (1984), Peter McNamara (1989), John Cain (2017) and last year’s winners
the Peers Family (Elizabeth, Bill, John and Sally). Good friend of eight-time grand slam champion, Ken Rosewall, Norm has spent more than half his life playing, coaching and mentoring thousands of tennis players. He continues to coach at the Nagambie Primary School and plays a pivotal role in their sessions on court, firmly epitomising tennis’ status as a sport for life. The feel good story was made even better with the Nagambie Primary School crowned Most Outstanding School award.

The community Voice caught up with Nagambie Primary School Principal, Rob French. “We were so very proud to be shortlisted as one of three school finalists and even prouder to win the award. Our application was based around participation, community, being active & healthy and sport as an avenue for personal development. The award is a great acknowledgment of our students’ enjoyment of tennis in the yard, as a PE activity and our Monday coaching group with Norm. It is also an acknowledgement of the Nagambie Tennis Club as they go out
of their way to make their facilities available to us free of charge.” “Sitting with Norm and Bernice (Cahill) and seeing how much they enjoyed the awards evening, was such a highlight for me. Norm has played a huge part in our school winning this award. Norm teaches more than tennis, he teaches the etiquette of tennis - good sportspersonship, good manners, ‘great shot, well played’, shaking hands and that tennis is a great avenue for life long friendships,” Rob added.
