Women cyclists prepare to hit the heights again By ANITA McPHERSON
A CYCLING event which pushes participants to their limits and helps them achieve their goals in a supportive and inclusive environment will return to the High Country in November. The 3 Peaks Women’s Cycling Weekend, an extension of the High Country Women’s Cycling Festival, takes riders to the pinnacle of the region as they tackle three of the most scenic and challenging climbs, riding to Mount Hotham, Falls Creek and Mount Buffalo, over three days. The festival was developed by outdoor adventure enthusiasts and cyclists Clare Holdsworth and Michelle Armstrong with the aim of inspiring and encouraging more women to ride; the 3 Peaks event added after women told them they wanted to climb higher but needed some support. Ms Armstrong said making 3 Peaks happen this year, following yet another dispiriting lockdown, was more important than ever. She said having cancelled their festival twice last year due to COVID, it was exciting to be able to deliver “an awesome” 3 Peaks last November. “Making it happen this year too is important for so many reasons and even more significant after the recent state-wide lockdown,” she said. “Women tell us that they love the 3 Peaks concept, and the opportunity to smash some ride goals by taking on three mountain climbs over three days, is top of their bucket list.”
