By BELINDA HARRISON THE Beechworth Bakery Bears are having lots of fun. They are riding on bobsleds and slurping coffee. They are keeping watch over the bakery and making sure that everyone has cake to eat. They are ready to tell you all their stories. The lives of the cuddly teddy bears who call Beechworth Bakery home are the inspiration for Beechworth author Frank Prem’s latest book series - The Beechworth Bakery Bears. “I don’t see myself as a children’s writer - I’m a poet first and foremost, and all my work is aimed at readers
who comprehend adult words and situations,” Frank said. “Creating a picture book is very different because of the photos themselves and I really wanted to give the photos their own space around the speech from the bears. “Plus, I had to learn the kind of communication the reader of these books would have with a teddy bear. “Each of the bears had their own voice that I could hear when they spoke to me and shared their story of sitting on that particular shelf or above that particular warming oven and it became easier to put it in child-like conversations.”
