Nadia’s Blue Ribbon service By NICK SINIS nsinis@nemedia.com.au NADIA Castens has been recognised for her vital service to the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation North East branch for raising funds and creating police memorials at the local hospital.
The not for profit organisation perpetuates the memory of Victoria Police employees who have died in the line of duty through the support of community projects in Victoria. The North East branch’s mission is to raise money to help build specialised medical facilities and provide vital

medical equipment to hospitals in the region. Ms Castens, who first joined the branch in 2007 and resigned as vice-president last year, said it was through her role at Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) that led to her involvement. “I worked as a community
engagement coordinator and my manager was on the committee and I started out by helping her,” she said. “I thought, I work at the hospital and we can use this foundation to definitely name the rooms after fallen (police) members. “Over that period, we raised just under $147,860 for NHW.
“There were various projects but the first one was the Senior Constable Rennie Page oncology treatment room. “The next one was the Senior Constable Ann Brimblecombe paediatric rooms.” Ms Castens said after becoming involved with the committee, it wasn’t long until she
became secretary. “That was to take minutes, do the agendas and keep the committee informed on what’s going on,” she said. “Then in 2014, I started to step down from that role and became the vice-president until last year.
