Following art from Wangaratta to the NT

◆ CURATOR: Luke Scholes has a passion for all things art.
ART has been woven through Luke Scholes’ life since a young age. The former Wangaratta High School student who is now artist and curator of Aboriginal art at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory said he inherited his passion from his father. “Dad was a very gifted artist; he could draw, paint and make jewellery,” he said. “My brother Mason, sister Brenna and I were always in awe of Dad’s ability to draw. “Whenever we travelled,
we always went to galleries. “When visiting Melbourne or Canberra we would always visit the big institutions; the National Gallery of Victoria and the National Gallery of Australia. “Art was something that Dad was really interested in and it just felt natural that I too would be drawn to it. “Artistically Dad was obviously a huge influence,” he said. “So, too, many of the teachers I encountered at Wangaratta High School.
