Fresh snow boosts visitor numbers

Another dump of fresh snow late in the fifth week of the snow season saw visitor numbers begin to climb, while the slopes were looking fantastic. The prediction is that there is still more snow to come, with the season far from over. During week five, more than 20,400 visitors arrived at Mt Buller, which was also celebrating Kids’ Week and giving local, interstate and international visitors the experience they had been waiting for. The snow was fresh and widespread across many of the trails. To date, Mt Buller has welcomed
more than 51,339 visitors this season. At Mt Stirling, which currently has snow only at the summit, more than 600 visitors have ventured into the winter cross-country area. As the calendar flipped over into July, more snow arrived and the Mt Buller snowmaking team set to work overtime to build on the cover and open more runs. Family Run and the Howqua Chairlift were added to the offering for school holiday visitors, who made the most of the longer runs and sweeping views across the Howqua Valley. The snowmaking team said it would continue to make snow whenever conditions allowed. The team has been working mira-
cles, even managing to make snow at temperatures above four degrees thanks to low humidity. With the start of school term three, both Buller and Stirling will see school groups arrive over the coming weeks. There is plenty of snow for younger primary school students taking the first steps in their skiing or snowboarding journey. With the Victorian Interschools fast approaching, it is also the ideal time for these youngsters to get in some skiing or snowboarding practice. July has welcomed the return of night skiing on Wednesday and Saturday nights, continuing through August.
It is a great opportunity to extend the day by skiing under lights on Bourke Street. Mansfield residents can enjoy free resort entry from 4.30pm, making it a great-value night out. Coming up for a day visit on a weekend in July or August? Park at Mirimbah and book a seat on the convenient Village Express Service. There is no need to carry chains, so passengers can enjoy the views and relax on the journey to and from the village. The Mt Buller events calendar is also bursting at the seams, with plenty still to come over the remaining weeks of the season.
