Eastern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi: A Brief History In December of 1925, the fifth Grand Polemarch Earl B. Dickerson presided over the 15th Grand Chapter Meeting. Among the actions taken by the Delegates assembled was the transition from Regions to Provinces. With that action the Flagship Province of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was established. John M. Marquess was appointed as the first Eastern Province Polemarch. Brother Marquess was a native of Arkansas and a graduate of Fisk University (1902) and Dartmouth College (1904). During his time at Dartmouth he sang on the college Choir and Glee Club and was a member of the Varsity Track Team. By profession Marquess was an educator, teaching and leading a number of schools prior to serving as President of the Colored Agricultural and Normal University (which would become Langston University). Brother Marquess was the first in a long line of achievers that would serve as Eastern Province Polemarch. At the time the Eastern Province was established records indicate that it was comprised of four chapters- Epsilon, Xi, Baltimore (MD) Alumni, which served Baltimore City and County, and Washington (DC) Alumni. In contrast to the static boundaries, we’ve come to know, the boundaries of the province were amorphous and incorporated at one time Chapters from New York to North Carolina. Considering the current boundaries of the Eastern Province, the first Chapter was the Howard University Chapter, the Xi (E) of Kappa Alpha Psi which was chartered on December 27, 1920. The second overall and first Alumni Chapter was the Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter (E) chartered on July 15, 1921. The second Alumni Chapter and third Chapter overall was the Washington (DC) Alumni Chapter (E) which was chartered on October 27, 1924. But no matter the area the Eastern Province has been home to achievers and leaders. The East has given Kappa five Grand Polemarchs (James E. Scott, W. Henry “Stud” Greene, W. Thomas Carter, and Howard L. Tutman Jr.) and numerous Laurel Wreath Laureates, Elder Watson Diggs Awardees, and Guy Levis Grant Awardees. The Eastern Province is the epitome of achievement. In four years, the Eastern Province will celebrate its centennial and with it the recognition of its history of leadership as it has chartered a strong course for our Noble Clan.

A Message from the Province Polemarch Dear Brothers: This news organ, The Kappa Khronicle, is designed to serve a twofold purpose: first, to keep the membership informed regarding relevant activities taking place in the province; and, second, to provide a means of sharing timely updates pertaining to activities, especially at the local level. Our chapter reporters play a pivotal role in helping us disseminate information, motivate performance, promote unity, improve morale, and supplement province historical records. In this age of information, we are blessed to have multiple means of access to the news of the day. It is this information that we embrace as it shapes the world that we live in. Information from reliable sources such as our brothers who take the time and energy to continue share what makes our fraternity great. It is in this vein that concerned Kappa men, undergraduate and graduate alike, freely share their time, talents, and resources at one time or another. As one the five objectives of Kappa Alpha Psi, “To inspire Service in the public interest” Kappa men have much to share as we contribute greatly to society. We are living in challenging times, and more than ever, the Bond of Kappa Alpha Psi is just as relevant as it was 110 years ago. It is our service and our traditions that define us and continue to push us towards excellence. We must never loose sight of those aims and purposes that has propelled our Fraternity forward. Our Kappa Brand is strong. And it is because of the good works of brothers across this Flagship province that we have much to report. We want to hear from you and celebrate your accomplishments and achievements. Our Kappa Chronicle is only as good as we make it. We have an inherent responsibility to keep the good name and the good works of Kappa Alpha Psi before the public at all times. I sincerely hope that the material contained in this quarterly edition will be studied very carefully and put to the greatest possible use. Feel free to share this publication with other members of the Eastern Province community. Your feedback will assist us in improving our efforts.

Brothers of the Flagship: I am pleased to bring to you the Fall 2021 edition of the Eastern Province Khronicle. This edition of the Khronicle features several alumni chapters and brothers throughout the province who have epitomized the essence of achievement in every field of human endeavor. I appreciate your continued patience as we have navigated the new submission portal for both the Eastern Province Khronicle and the province submission portal for the Journal of Kappa Alpha Psi. Kudos again to Brother Byron Haugabook and his technology team for assisting with the submission portal. Once again, the province reporter committee has worked tirelessly to get this edition out to the province and I would like to thank each of them for their dedication to the province. As you begin to think about your chapter’s next submission (Winter 2022), I want to leave you with another charge. The charge is to take a mixture of different photos at your events and functions (group photos, individual photos, vertical photos, horizontal photos, etc.,) so that the committee will have adequate options to choose from to represent your chapter well. Appoint a chapter photographer or ask for a volunteer if you do not have one. Continue to make sure that photos are straight, free of any blurriness, are not cut off and in jpeg or png format. Congrats to State Senator Brother Ronald Watson, Jr. Upper Marlboro/Waldorf (MD) Alumni Chapter By: Marcus Smith Congratulations to Brother Ronald Watson Jr., Ph.D. On August 27, 2021, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan appointed Brother Ronald L. Watson, Jr., Ph.D., to the Maryland Senate. Brother Watson Jr. was selected following a nomination by the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee. Dr. Watson will represent District 23 in Prince George’s County, filling the seat vacated by former Senator Doug Peters.

Washington (DC) Alumni Chapter’s Scholarship Fund Receives Major Bequest and Tops $5 Million Dollar Mark Washington (DC) Alumni Chapter By: Michael Holliday, M.D. On August 5, 2021, the Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund, Inc.® (KSEF), the scholarship program of the Washington DC Alumni Chapter, received a bequest of $402,554.11 from the estate of Dr. Estelle Wormley Taylor. This

generous donation increased the total assets of KSEF to over $5 million dollars. Dr. Taylor, a staunch supporter of KSEF for many years, previously contributed more than $100,000 through our Named Endowment Scholarship Program (NESP), to establish the Drs. Ivan Earle and Estelle Wormley Taylor Scholarships which KSEF awards annually. Dr. Estelle Taylor and her late husband Dr. Ivan Earle Taylor were exceptional educators and community leaders who both served as Chair of the Department of English at Howard University for many years and received numerous honors and awards for their outstanding contributions to the education of youth in our community. The KSEF, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was established in 1984 by the Washington DC Alumni Chapter to raise funds for the purpose of providing scholarships to deserving graduating seniors of the DC Public High Schools and DC Public Charter High Schools seeking to further their education at accredited four-year colleges and universities. In 1994, KSEF created the Named Endowed Scholarship Program (NESP) and expanded charitable support options for its donors. Each Named Scholarship is awarded annually in perpetuity. Since its inception, KSEF has been managed by a 27-member volunteer board of directors and has awarded scholarships totaling over $2 million dollars to more than 750 students. The Fund was recognized by College Consensus in 2020 as one of the Top 5 Scholarship Programs in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. In 2021, 26 students were awarded $208,000.00 in scholarships. With the continued support of its many donors, KSEF remains poised to continue its mission of awarding college scholarships to deserving graduating seniors.

A Grand Journey in Service to Kappa and Community: The Chartering Ceremony for the First Baltimore Metropolitan Area Alumni Chapter in More Than a Century Towson-Catonsville (MD) Alumni Chapter By: Sandye J. McIntyre III On November 20, 2021, TowsonCatonsville (MD) Alumni held its chartering ceremony and celebratory dinner in Gambrills, MD, with more than 120 Brothers in attendance to witness the historic event. The 29th Eastern Province Polemarch Charles E. Exum, Jr., presented the charter to Polemarch Keith A. Stith amidst thunderous applause and congratulatory shouts of joy, encouragement, and triumph. The Brothers of the newly chartered Chapter were honored with the presence and enthusiastic support of many other Eastern Province and Grand Chapter dignitaries. On October 13, 2020, Towson-Catonsville (MD) Alumni was recognized as an Association by the Grand Board of Directors. This welcome news was announced by the 29th Eastern Province Polemarch Charles E. Exum, Jr. On October 19, 2021, the Brothers of the TowsonCatonsville (MD) Alumni Association were informed that the Grand Board of Directors, led by the 34th Grand Polemarch Reuben A. Shelton III, Esq., cast an affirmative vote to charter the Towson-Catonsville (MD) Alumni Chapter in the Eastern Province. This was the first charter granted to an alumni chapter in the Baltimore, Maryland metropolitan area in more than a century.

Words are insufficient to convey the height of exuberance and depth of gratitude that members of Towson-Catonsville Alumni continue to feel for this long-awaited, momentous event, which is nothing short of historic. The nascency of this journey had roots that were established well over a decade ago, but the concerted, tangible effort began in 2011. During the pilgrimage to Indiana for the Conclave celebrating the Centennial of our Noble Clan, a small group of Brothers met to discuss the prospect of finally establishing an alumni chapter in Baltimore County, Maryland. At that gathering, those Brothers purposed to bring this aspiration to fruition. Throughout the more than decade-long journey that stretched between the 100th Anniversary Conclave and the Grand Board’s historic vote to charter the Chapter, the Brothers of Towson-Catonsville Alumni remained steadfast; exhibited intensity of purpose, resilience, and perseverance; and refused to be dissuaded from achieving their noble aim. Despite numerous obstacles, they evidenced adherence to and personified the principles of Invictus, and continued to espouse the core philosophy that TowsonCatonsville Alumni is and will be, in perpetuity, the Chapter “Where Fraternalism Happens”. The Brothers of the future Association and Chapter began to make substantive impacts by serving various communities prior to the existence of either entity. The citizens of these communities were in need, so Brothers stepped up to meet those needs. Service projects included food-bank distribution drives, clothing drives to benefit a men’s shelter, back-to-school supply drives, Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas toy drives, and other charitable endeavors. Of note, Brother Lamont O. Norwood, who is now the Keeper of Records for Towson-Catonsville

Alumni, produced a COVID-19 Town Hall to address the clinical and mental-health issues associated with the pandemic. The registration page was viewed more than eight hundred times, 96% of available tickets were claimed, and attendees joined from locations as distant as nations in Europe. The Brothers of the Towson-Catonsville (MD) Alumni Chapter (E) enthusiastically thank the 29th Eastern Province Polemarch Charles E. Exum, Jr., and the 34th Grand Polemarch Reuben A. Shelton III, Esq., for their unwavering support in the establishment of the Chapter. We salute them both for their vision and their manifestation of fraternalism. Because of their superlative leadership, the Brothers who fought for well over a decade to serve Kappa, the Eastern Province, and the community as a unified, sanctioned body can now do so within and through the TowsonCatonsville Alumni Chapter. Our gratitude will only be matched by our passion to make manifest the laudable purposes of our Noble Clan; to strengthen the Bond; and to serve the deserving, but underserved, communities of Baltimore County.

Guide Right Kamp Kappa Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter By: Tre' Wilder "Nupes- Thank you for making the unimaginable...IMAGINABLE! The campers are grateful to you for providing the resources, energy and time to invest in their lives. Every session taught was performed with excellence, and closing with the International Brothers from Kenya, South Africa, Poland and Japan, really put the campers on cloud 9...and left the parents speechless. Messages are pouring in to appreciate all you Noble Gentlemen do. You definitely made Kamp Kappa 2021 a program to remember! To that, I say YO! Great work!" Respectfully- Brother Will McLeod

On 18-21 August, 2021, the Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. virtually hosted the 28th Kamp Kappa in partnership with Dulles-Leesburg (VA) & Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni Chapters. The theme of this no-cost Camp was "Exploring Cultures Across the World," delivered to 68 young men ages 9-17 participating from Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, Texas, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. Each camper received a camper's kit consisting of a tent, sleeping bag, compass, knot tying rope, first-aid kit, tri-fold chair, water bottle, and books shipped directly to their homes. Over the four days, the campers received 23 live instructional lessons. The topics included setting

up their tent, compass navigation, hiking and camping awareness, COVID-19 safety, how to roll your sleeping bag properly, hygiene and safety, knot-tying sessions, rendering first-aid, and tying a neck-tie. There were over 300 participants during the virtual Camp, including campers, parents, Brothers, donors, and Alumni Chapter guest speakers streaming in from Japan, South Africa, Kenya and Poland. Our guest speakers shared their unique cultural experiences with the young men, parents, and each other. Thought-provoking lectures on the topic "Why Black Minds Matter," "How to Get Home Safely," and "Trust and Relationships" addressed today's current environment by building awareness around achievement gaps and positioning young men of color for life skills and educational success. Parents were beyond thrilled with the virtual Kamp Kappa. Here is just one of the many testimonies from a young camper's parent addressing the Camp's unexpected impact: "I want to thank the men of Kappa Alpha Psi for developing a program such as this in his time of need. My son recently lost his father,

and my home hasn't been the same since the day he passed away a few months ago. But today, there was a smile on his face and a spark in his eyes when he received his camping items in the mail. In less than one hour, his tent was out of the box, already up with items from his bedroom in it. I once again want to pass on many thanks, and I can't wait until Kamp Kappa begins. But even if there was no Kamp Kappa, I know his father is proud of the Kappa men for doing this!" Alexandria- Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter is very excited to continue this one-of-a-kind summer program to youth in our community. Kamp Kappa summer camp has been a part of the Northern Virginia, Washington, DC

metropolitan area community for over 28 years and has served over 1,400 young men to learn how to lead, participate in outdoor activities, and be mentored by community leaders. With the leadership of Brother McLeod we have expanded the program to allow participation of several local chapters, and now we can say we have had representation from chapters all over the world. This invaluable experience will live long in the minds of the young men you have influenced and for that, the Brothers of Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter thank you. We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate and impact the globe.

Community Service Social Justice Town Hall Upper Marlboro/Waldorf (MD) Alumni Chapter By: Marcus Smith

On Thursday, July 22, 2021, the Upper Marlboro/Waldorf (MD) Alumni Chapter (UMW) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., or “The U” hosted a special community conversation entitled a “Social Justice Town Hall on Police Reform” in Charles County, Maryland. UMW Past Chapter Polemarch Shaun Alfred provided greetings and closed the program on behalf of the chapter. Current chapter Polemarch Keenon James moderated an hour-long conversation between a distinguished panel of elected officials and a community leader on all aspects of police reform and community engagement. The conversation was very engaging, objective, and wide-ranging. Panelists included Maryland House of Delegate Member Debra Davis of District 28 in Charles County, Charles County Sheriff Troy Davis, Charles County NAACP President Dyotha Sweat and UMW Chapter Member and Charles County Board of Commissioners’ President Reuben Collins. Overall, this community conversation with Charles County residents was very well received, and more than 100 residents either attended this event in person (with public health and social distancing interventions strictly enforced) or watched on the live stream online.

Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter’s Back to School Give Back Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter By: Craig Sims

One of the principles that every Kappa man should live by is “to inspire service in the public’s interest.” The Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. drives this into every chapter member. With a new school year starting, the Community Service committee made it their duty to set up an event to give back to students as they return to school in person. On Thursday, September 2, 2021, the 52nd Polemarch Craig Sims and brother Devron Dickens delivered book bags collected from the “Back School Drive” hosted by the chapter to Booker T. Washington Middle School and Eutaw-Marshburn Elementary School. More than 50 book bags were collected from this event.

Earlier that morning, Brother Dickens attended a room unveiling ceremony at New Era Academy High School. The classroom was dedicated in honor of our Brother Shannon Cottman (BAC Spr17) Chapter Invisible. Brother Cottman’s family members were in attendance, along with school administrators and students who stopped by to share their testimonies and fondest memories. The chapter presented the school with a $2,500 check to support their school uniform drive on behalf of Brother Cottman during the ceremony. The donation was provided by our corporate sponsor Tyrone Taborn, Chairman and CEO of Career Communications Group, Inc.

The “U” Welcomes Students Back in School Upper Marlboro/Waldorf (MD) Alumni Chapter By: Marcus Smith The members of the “U” welcomed the students of Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Elementary School in Waldorf back for their first day of classes on August 30, 2021. Those in attendance included Brother Marshall Edwards and Brother Tony Edwards. Both the Principal, Ms. Orlena Whatley (pictured here with the Brothers) and the VicePrincipal Ms. Shelia Soderstrum expressed their appreciation to the members of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. for continuing their tradition of greeting the students as they return to school, especially after being away for a year and a half due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was good to see the children’s smiling (and sometimes worried) faces as they were guided to their classrooms for what we all hope will be a successful and safe school year.

Project Giveback

Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter By: Tre' Wilder

The air was cold but the spirit was warm on Saturday morning at the Gum Springs Community Center, where volunteers from Northern Virginia Project Give Back congregated to pack and distribute Thanksgiving food boxes to local families in need. With music playing, laughter everywhere, and countless smiles behind masks, about one hundred volunteers, including those representing various historically Black fraternities and sororities, went about work to combat hunger in Fairfax and Alexandria by packing and distributing over 400 Thanksgiving meal kits. Project Give Back has been in operation for over 25 years with Thanksgiving food distributions occurring in Washington D.C., Maryland, and here in Alexandria and Fairfax.

“Given the pandemic last year, we were limited and only able to distribute gift cards. This year, we are back in action, with real, nutritious food going out to the people who need it,” said Walter Smiley, Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and event organizer. “We have been doing this a long time and each year the need grows. We are appreciative of all the people who come together to donate time and money to make this happen.” Food boxes featured frozen turkeys, fresh vegetables, stuffing mix, ground turkey and gift cards. Project Give Back partnered with local community volunteers and organizations to identify local families in need and bring the food to them. The organization also packed two U-Hauls full of food kits and made personal deliveries. Project Give Back invited the Fairfax County Health Department to participate in the event. Their Mobile Testing Clinic was on-site to provide testing to attendees and volunteers. With the Thanksgiving holiday, many took advantage to get a COVID-19 test before getting together with families. Volunteers with the Fairfax County Health Department’s Stronger2 initiative were also onhand to help measure the health needs of the local community in the local neighborhood. Stronger2 aims to improve health literacy among local African-American, African and Hispanic communities. Several historically Black fraternity and sorority members who participate in Project Give Back also serve on Stronger2. Stronger2 volunteers from Fundación Los Niños de María helped attendees complete needs assessments. The data will be used to help inform programs in the community.

Chapter Events Centennial Celebration: Closed Banquet Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter By: Craig Sims

The Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter hosted a Centennial Celebration Closed Banquet on September 26, 2021, at Martin’s West Caterers. Dignitaries in attendance included the 29th Grand Polemarch Howard Tutman, Jr., 34th Grand Polemarch Reuben Shelton, III, Esq., Senior Grand Vice Polemarch (Keynote Speaker) Jimmy McMikle, Alumni Grand Board member Robert Jenkins, Jr., Esq., Eastern Province Polemarch Charles Exum, Jr., and visiting Middle Western Province Alumni Board member Marvin Pettaway along with other Chapter Polemarchs.

Over 200 tickets were sold, and safety measures were incorporated to enhance protections against COVID-19.

Centennial Celebration: Walk of Achievement Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter By: Craig Sims

On Saturday, August 28, 2021, from 1 pm-2 pm at the Kappa Youth and Community Center, the chapter held a ceremony to unveil the "Walk of Achievement" in celebration of the chapter's centennial and to commemorate this once in a lifetime milestone. Brother Howard Tutman, III, managed the development of the program masterfully and in great detail. Brother Brandon Wylie served as Master of Ceremonies and excellently worked the program with great levity. Senior Grand Vice Polemarch Jimmy McMikle delivered a powerful and insightful message that resonated with the audience.

Fletcher, Charles Harris, Enyinna Anthony, Devron Dickens, Norman Edwards, and Wayne Pulliam for participating in the program. Also in attendance to provide closing remarks was The Honorable Emanuel J. Stanley, 26th Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge and Its Jurisdiction.

Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter’s Centennial Community Celebration Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter By: Craig Sims

Few organizations or chapters can say they have been around for 100 years. The Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi has served its community since July 15, 1921. The Centennial Committee led by brother Milton Mayo figured out a way to celebrate the occasion with the general public.

On Saturday, July 31, 2021, from 1 pm-3 pm, the chapter hosted a virtual Centennial Public Meeting: Community Celebration event. The event was held live on Zoom, and the chapter was honored to have the 29th through the 33rd Past Grand Polemarch's, National Officers, Past Province Polemarch's, the Eastern Province Polemarch, Awardees, and 34th

Grand Polemarch, and Reuben A. Shelton, III, Esq. in attendance. Over 120 people attended the meeting virtually. A special thanks to our corporate sponsors: Dell Technologies, WhitingTurner, Southern Acoustics, and Career Communications for generous donations, and congratulations to all our Centennial Achievers. The event's highlight was a video featuring brothers who have been members of Baltimore Alumni for fifty years or more: Guy Bragg, John Crooms, Randolph Edwards, Milton Langley, and Jay Watkins. Senior Kappa Highlights Baltimore (MD) Alumni We resumed having our in-person biweekly Senior Brother Breakfasts at the IHOP in Randallstown, MD (Baltimore County) on Thursday July, 8, 2021. To date we’ve had six (6) in-person Senior Brother Breakfasts, most recent Thursday, September 16, 2021. Our next breakfast is scheduled for Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 9:30 AM at the Randallstown IHOP. The Senior Brothers gathered for an afternoon brunch at 818 Market Place in Catonsville, MD (Baltimore County) on Thursday September 9th, which was the 100th Anniversary of the Baltimore Alumni Chapter’s chartering date. Nineteen Brothers were in attendance.

Aberdeen (MD) Alumni The chapter had several senior brothers to attend and participate in the chapter’s annual retreat, 30-31 Jul 21. The retreat was held at Brother Robert Jones home who is a senior brother. During the retreat, one senior brother, Brother Ronald Williams was recognized for his achievements and presented a Senior Kappa coffee mug. Upcoming: Senior brothers will conduct Senior Brother visits. We will attempt to visit Senior Brothers in the local area. Our effects are focused on reclaiming brothers in the local area and getting involved in community activities once COVID restrictions are lifted.

Woodbridge (VA) Alumni

New Senior Kappa Committee Chairman, Brother Mel Hunter, briefed proposed programs and activities for the upcoming fraternal year. Our budget will undergo a final review on 9/20 and on 9/25 during our chapter meeting. The budget will be voted on by the chapter's membership for approval.

Frederick (MD) Alumni The chapter continues to reach out to the senior members at least monthly, making monthly calls and visits to Senior Brothers. The chapter has also agreed to continue making special contact with each senior on their birthday. We are happy to report that all of the seniors are doing well.

Gaithersburg/Rockville (MD) Alumni This month we recently held our Chapter Retreat where we were able to have a good number of our Senior Brothers in attendance. During the Retreat we were able to engage with some of them to see what they wanted to do during the coming year, so we could prepare an item in the Chapter’s budget.

Petersburg (VA) Alumni While during this period of viral pandemic precautions/protocols, the chapter/fraternity is generally not permitted to conduct formal activities, a wealth of informal, brotherly and socially remarkable activities has been inspired. Such as calls among members in general and seniors in particular to stay in touch and check on each other’s wellbeing. Members have become much more familiar with and capable of conducting informal gatherings and group conversations on (virtual) platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet. The PAC conducted a (virtual) chapter planning retreat on September 16, 2021. During the session the Senior Kappa Affairs committee reported on the acceptance of an invitation to host the Eastern Province Senior Kappa Luncheon; the Inaugural Vandy L. Miller Eastern Province Senior Kappa/50 Year Brothers Luncheon, on or about May 22, 2021 (tentatively) at the Gateway Events Center on the campus of Virginia State University. It was noted by PAC Senior Kappa Affairs Committee Chairman/Region 3 EP Senior Kappa Committee Rep, that as soon as possible, but not later than November 2021, the necessity of empaneling a planning committee to include PAC officials, Eastern Province officials to formally plan the affair. September 16, 2021: The PAC held its planning retreat on September 16, 2021. During the session the Senior Kappa Affairs Committee reviewed the proposed action/activity plan for the coming fraternal year. The decision to adopt the plan as presented or with revisions/amendments will take place during the first regular chapter meeting of the 20212022 Frternal Year (Sept 23, 2021).

Washington (DC) Alumni (WAC) Three Virtual Chapter Meetings were held via Zoom this Quarter that included several Senior Kappas participating. On August 21, the Chapter held a Zoom Retreat. It was well attended, with several Senior Kappas participating. Program activities were discussed and plans were made for the new Program year. A highly successful “Plant Sale” fund raiser was conducted to raise funds for the Guide Right Program. Senior Kappa, Brother Gregory Johnson, who owns a Farm, provided Mums and Asters for sale. Over 150 plants were purchased by Brothers, including Senior Brothers. The Senior Kappa “First Tuesday Breakfast” at Teste Diner in Silver Spring has started up again. The attendance numbers are still small re: Brothers attending, but this is to be anticipated. The numbers will improve as Brothers become comfortable with COVID-19 protocols. The Chapter had three Brothers transitioning to Chapter Invisible this Quarter: Brothers Kenneth Reeder, Jerry Bell and Dewey Wisemen. These Brothers were Senior Kappas and all were initiated at Beta Kappa. This Quarter, Brothers participated in a Memorial Service held by the family of Brother Leroy Brown, Senior Kappa.

Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni Formal in-person meetings of the Senior Kappa Committee began in August with the Senior Kappa’s having the choice of meeting in-person or on Zoom. Brothers established the following priorities for the committee to work on: To have the Chapters IT Committee provide training in the areas of how to use Zoom for chapter and committee meetings and how to utilize social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. To develop quarterly activities for the Senior Kappa members to sponsor or assist other chapter committees to work on. To develop new social and working relationships with the younger chapter brothers.

To continue our popular monthly Senior Kappa Lunches. The Senior Kappa Lunch was held on September 7th at the Silver Diner in the Woodmore Shopping Center in Glenarden Maryland. The brothers who attended were extremely pleased to welcome several new brothers who attended because of the reclamation efforts of the SKC membership.

College Park/ Sandy Spring (MD) Alumni 10 College Park/Sandy Spring (CPSS) Senior Kappas registered for the virtual 85th Grand Chapter meeting in Phoenix, AZ. Our newest Senior Kappa is the MTA National Chairman Andre Gladden. The chapter organized and coordinated Chapter Kappa Walks each Saturday since Conclave. Senior Kappas would participate as the chapter would gather and select a different area to walk a trail each week. This was for both exercise as well as fellowship gathering. Senior Kappas participated in the CPSS Planning Retreat and presented a report for the upcoming fraternal year. There were two Senior Kappas that participated in the Back-to-School welcome reception to students at Forest Heights Elementary School where Dr. Peter Thomson who is a Senior Kappa is the principal. One Senior Kappa who is the chapter Keeper of Exchequer attended the Meet and Greet the Grand Polemarch reception during the weekend of the 100th chapter anniversary of X chapter. One of our Senior Kappas was initiated at Xi chapter and participated in some of the events. Senior Kappas also participated in the Kappa League Open House. The Guide Right cochairman is a Senior Kappa. Students and parents are greeted and provided a briefing of the year’s upcoming events.

Other News Kappa Loop App Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter By: Tre' Wilder In the age of information and technology, disseminating information to the masses is quite imperative. As we only move further along in this era, the Nupes of AF have been able to not only just adapt, but achieve per usual. With much recognition to Brother Marco Jacobs, AF has developed a Kappa app answering a large array of general questions. "What's that brother's line name?", "When's the next chapter meeting?", "Dues are due when?!" and many other questions can all be answered by simply utilizing this wonderful application. We've been in an age of technology for sometime though, so what made Brother Jacobs the first person to take on this initiative? I was enlightened by Brother Jacobs as he stated, "Most of the time, ideas stay ideas. With me, I'm about having an idea and executing on it". As the concept for the Kappa Loop app has been with Brother Jacobs for over four (4) years, he made sure to properly study the fraternity; understanding the fraternity as a business, learning the nuances and various processes to effectively consult technology into the fraternity, while maintaining discretion.The Fraternity contains a bevy of Chapters within the 12 Provinces, each maintaining their own processes within the businesses of Kappa. As Brother Jacobs stated, "with all these different Chapters/Provinces doing things different, I wanted to streamline and get everyone on the same page". As such, Brother Jacobs has continued his Achievement by unifying the different Brother's within Kappa. As someone with the ability to have vision and follow through, one can only imagine the next steps for the Kappa Loop app. "Team work makes the dream work" and "working smarter not harder" are the first things that comes to mind after talking with Brother Jacobs as these phrases embody his idea. Being able to follow the same processes and simplify how we're currently operating throughout all of Kappa is extremely ideal. Is this just an optimistic goal? One thing is for certain, Brother Jacobs not only has the determination to find out, but also the proper support and man power to turn this optimistic dream into a simplistic reality.

While the Kappa Loop app has proven to be useful and convenient, Brother Jacobs has stated enhancements are in the works. No specific dates for any updates to the Kappa Loop app quite yet, G-14 Classified, however, the following new features have been unveiled: • "Payment" - able to pay dues/fees • "Inner Chapter Communication" - able to state more than announcements
