The Province Polemarch’s Message Without a scintilla of doubt, Phi Nu Pi has been--and still is--the core of our existence; as our north star, it plays a pivotal role in unlocking our noble clan’s future, which depends on our discharging our assigned duties and meeting our obligations with alacrity and fealty. We must continue to demonstrate our commitment to making the most effective use of our God-given talents. As you are well aware, our local chapters are a critical link in our continuing endeavor to achieve the 35th Grand Chapter Administration’s goals and objectives formulated to promote our sacred brotherhood’s forward momentum and advancement. This news organ provides a mechanism for us to keep our good name and our good works before the public at all times and to report our signature accomplishments to the general membership. Our corps of dedicated reporters understands their position, and they serve incredibly well.As bonified members of the greatest fraternal organization ever to grace mother earth, we swore an oath of allegiance to Kappa Alpha Psi; and now we enjoy the benefits, the responsibilities, and the privileges that accrue from our solemn pledge. Among other things, the Flagship Province has garnered a solid reputation in two vital areas: first, its culture of community engagement; second, its rich homegrown talent pool. We come from all strata of society and from across the political spectrum. As brothers working together, we have the human potential, the resources, and the ingenuity “to sail smoothly through the 2023-24 fiscal year,” making it a resounding success for our noble clan. I am pleased, for obvious reasons, to commend this latest edition of The Kappa Chronicle for your review and enlightenment.

Greetings Brothers of the Flagship: As the dust settles from the highly successful 86th Grand Chapter Meeting in the beautiful "Kappa Bay," we are thrilled to bring you the Summer 2023 edition of The Khronicle. This issue is a testament to the incredible creativity and achievements of the brothers across our province, who continue to light the path for others.

Notable Achievements Mr. Virginia State University Alumni 2023 – 2024 Crowned Franklin-Southampton (VA) Alumni By: Kiero Dunn

On Saturday, February 4, 2023, the Virginia State University Alumni Association (VSUAA) concluded its inaugural Mr. and Ms. Alumni Contest, naming Brother LaTroy Brinkley, from the Franklin-Southampton (VA) Alumni Chapter, as its first-ever Mr. Alumni. Contestants solicited donations over two months and collectively raised $39,038.48, which will support student scholarships and philanthropic efforts of the VSU Alumni Association. Brother Brinkley alone raised an impressive $8,866.47 in only two weeks. Brother Brinkley received his undergraduate degree in 2000 from Virginia State University in Political Science. He is a 2018 initiate of the Franklin Southampton (VA) Alumni Chapter. Brother Brinkley owns multiple businesses and was the Executive Hair Stylist for the Steve Harvey Morning Show Neighborhood Awards. Also, he was the Executive Hair Stylist for Full Figure Fashion Week. Brother Brinkley was on the TV show Queens of R&B with SWV and XScape. He serves as the Commissioner for Suffolk Redevelopment, Housing Authority Commissioner for Suffolk Office on Youth, Commissioner for Keep Suffolk Beautiful, and Board Member for The Salvation Army.

Brother Brinkley will serve as spokesperson for VSUAA, serving the VSU and VSU alum communities and advancing the purpose and mission of the Association. He will help to recruit other young alums as de facto members of the Association’s Membership Taskforce and work on creating new fundraisers and social engagement activities.

Brother Roger R. “Rick” Watson, Jr. Lauded As Part of 2023 CIAA and Hampton University Hall of Fame Inductions

Hampton-Newport News (VA) Alumni By: Arthur Price, Jr. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) recognized the 1987-88 Hampton University Women’s Basketball Team as part of its 2023 Hall of Fame Class. Brother Roger R. “Rick” Watson, Jr. served as an assistant coach on that team and was an honoree during the 2023 John B. McLendon CIAA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, February 24, 2023. The event was part of the week-long schedule encompassing the CIAA Basketball Tournament, held February 21-25, 2023, in Baltimore, Maryland. On March 29, in conjunction with celebrating the inauguration of the new university president, Lt. General (USA, Retired) Darrell Keith Williams, the 1987- 88 team was again honored. This time, as part of the 2023 Hampton University Athletics Hall of Fame Class.

Led by CIAA Hall of Fame Head Coach James Sweat, the 1987-88 Hampton University Women's Basketball Team finished the season with an overall record of 33-1, including a 19-0 unbeaten mark in CIAA action, and were the NCAA Division II National Champions. The Pirates defeated West Texas State (now West Texas A&M), 65-49, to claim the first-ever national title in any sport in Hampton history. Brother Watson is a retired public school educator and guidance counselor. He recently retired as Chairman of the Heritage High School Guidance Department in Newport News, VA, and now selflessly provides his expertise to the Chapter’s Guide Right and Scholarship Committees. Brother Watsons’ initiation into Kappa Alpha Psi, Alpha Phi Chapter occurred at Virginia State University on March 31, 1973. His cream jacket, which symbolizes his half-century of brotherhood and service to our great fraternity, was presented to him at the HamptonNewport News Alumni Chapter's monthly meeting in April.

Brother Dwayne L. Lucas Promoted to High School Principal Hampton-Newport News (VA) Alumni By: Arthur Price, Jr.

Brother Dwayne L. Lucas was promoted to principal of Kecoughtan High School by the Hampton City School Board on May 3, 2023. Kecoughtan is one of four high schools in the city of Hampton’s. public school system. Brother Lucas has served as the principal at Tarrant Middle School for the past three years. Before Tarrant,

he was an academy principal at Kecoughtan High School for six years. Additionally, he worked as an assistant principal at Lindsay Middle School for eight years and served as acting principal for four months during his last year there. Brother Lucas began his career in education as an English teacher at Bethel High School in 2003, where he served the Bruins for three years. In 2001, he was an AVID tutor at Spratley Middle (now Kilgore Gifted Center). He also has experience as an evening GED administrator (2005-2006) and an evening administrator at Y.H. Thomas (2007-2008) and an adjunct professor at Tidewater Community College (2009-2012). Brother Lucas earned his bachelor’s degree from Hampton University and his master’s in educational leadership from Regent University. Lucas is pursuing his education to earn a doctoral degree in administration and professional practice from Trevecca Nazarene University. He is a March 10, 2007, initiate of the Hampton-Newport News (VA) Alumni Chapter. He serves critical roles on the chapter’s Guide Right and Scholarship Committees.

Hyattsville-Landover (MD) Alumni Celebrates 44 Years! Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni By: Clarence Jones

Brotherhood, achievement, celebration, anniversary, faith, community service, being our Brother’s keeper, and Bible verses Joshua 13:1 and 14:6 are all interconnected concepts that hold significant meaning in our lives. They represent different aspects of our relationships with others, our connection to the community, and our spiritual beliefs. In this narrative, we explore four elements: 1) the importance of commemorating achievements, 2) serving our communities, 3) upholding our faith, and 4) being our Brother’s keeper through the lens of crucial bible verses drawn from the worship service at Zion Church. These elements underpin our allegiance to the Bond of the Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni Chapter of

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. This narrative celebrates the 22 Charter members who envisioned establishing this organization in 1979 and the journey traveled 44 years later. As Brothers, we know that Brotherhood is essential to our relationships. Whether it's with family members, friends, or colleagues, our bonds with others create a sense of community and belonging. Our shared experiences and common goals strengthen brotherhood, and it helps us support each other through life's challenges. Through our principles of Phi Nu Pi, we must look out for each other, protect each other, and support each other through thick and thin. That is the Bond of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Achievement and celebration go hand in hand. When we achieve our goals in every field of human endeavor, it's essential to take the time to celebrate our successes. Celebrations help us recognize our achievements and appreciate the hard work of reaching our goals. Festivals also allow us to unite with our loved ones and share in our accomplishments. By celebrating together, we build stronger bonds and create a sense of community that helps us support each other through future challenges. Anniversaries are a time to reflect on the past, appreciate the present, and look forward to the future. Whether it’s a wedding anniversary, a work anniversary, or an anniversary of some other important event, these milestones remind us of our progress and goals. Anniversaries allow us to celebrate our achievements, unite with loved ones, and build stronger community bonds. The first element of celebrating the milestone of 44 years of achievement of the Chapter’s Anniversary was at the Wizards Basketball game on Friday, 10 March 2023, under the leadership of 50 Year/Senior Kappa, Brother Ronald Henderson,

working with the Senior Kappa Committee and Reclamation Committee. Over 50 brothers occupied three private suites loaded with refreshments and libations. It was a great evening of conversation, fellowship, and exhibiting that good ole’ Kappa Spirit. During halftime, H/L Polemarch, Brother Carroll James Harris, Esq. made Chapter Award presentations for the 2021-2022 fraternal year. The following Brothers were recognized: Brother Melvin Powell, Community Service Award; Brother Clarence Jones, Jr., Michael Greene Service to the Chapter Award; and, of course, Brother of the Year, Brother Ronald Henderson. Community service is an essential part of being our Brother’s keeper. By serving our communities, we can positively impact the world around us and help those in need. Service projects allow us to work together towards a common goal, creating a sense of unity and purpose that strengthens our bonds. The second element of the Chapter’s Anniversary involved a Community Service activity. On Thursday afternoon, March 16, 2023, led by Brother Jevaughn Hogan, the donations collected at the Roll Kall Skating Party were organized and distributed to those in need at the University Christian Church - connected to the Prince George’s Plaza Day Center, located in Hyattsville, Maryland. A total of seven brothers were in attendance to assist with the distribution and also to help with food preparation. Each guest present could enjoy a meal while collecting toiletries, socks, clothes, and blankets. In addition, a bag was provided to each. All donations were left for future visitors to benefit from the Chapter's generosity. Brother Hogan shared that all the Brothers present were excited to participate in this particular moment. The Brothers were given a tour of the day shelter, which has several amenities, including a kitchen, shower, and living area available to those in need. It means much more to help a thriving and impactful organization, such as Congregations United for Compassion and Empowerment (CUCE).

Faith provides us with a sense of purpose and a connection to something greater than ourselves. Upholding our faith helps us find meaning and direction in our lives, providing us with a sense of comfort and hope in times of struggle. Our faith also calls us to serve others, be our Brother’s keeper, and work toward our community’s greater good. Encapsulating the third element of the Chapter’s Anniversary celebration involved worshiping together on a bright Sunday morning, March 19, 2023, at the invitation of Brother Deacon Rodney Martin at his church home, Zion Church, in Greenbelt, MD. The Brothers gathered around 11:15 am and were escorted to their reserved seats shortly after the start of service at 11:30 am. The sermon of the day, delivered by Pastor Jumaine Jones, was entitled “It’s Not Over.” Salient points were: quitting too soon, knowing when to and not to stop, and, more importantly, waiting on God’s timing. It was taken from the biblical verses of Joshua 13:1 and 14:6, which spoke to the importance of faith, perseverance, and brotherhood. Joshua 13:1 reads, Now Joshua was old and advanced in years, and the Lord said to him, ‘You are old and advanced in years, and there remains yet very much land to possess.’ This verse reminds us that there is always more work to be done, more goals to achieve, and more achievements to celebrate. It also reminds us of our responsibility to serve others and be our Brother’s keeper, even as we continue pursuing our goals and aspirations. In Joshua 14:6, Caleb reminds Joshua of the promise that God had made to him and Joshua many years earlier, and he requests the land that God had promised him as his inheritance. This verse reminds us that faithfulness and perseverance can be rewarded and that we must trust God’s promises. After service, the members gathered for a group picture with the lead pastor, Larry Paige.

In summary, brotherhood, achievement, celebration, anniversary, faith, community service, and being our Brother’s keeper are all interconnected concepts essential for building strong communities and supporting each other through life's challenges. As we continue to navigate the ups and downs of our world, let us remember the importance of commemorating our achievements, serving our communities, upholding our faith, being our Brother’s keeper, and being a strong advocate of the tenets of ΚΑΨ. May the next 44 years of the Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. be even more significant. May the 22 Charter members and those remaining amongst us be proud of our progress.

Upper Marlboro/ Waldorf (MD) Alumni By: Marcus Smith The Military Basketball Association (MBA) Hall of Fame inducted Brother Lonnie Stancil on Friday, May 26, 2023. His military service began in 1986 when he joined the US Marine Corps. Initially, Brother . Stancil served with the Marine Helicopter Squadron at Quantico. Soon after joining the military, he began playing basketball for the Corps; he attracted the attention of several Division I and Division II colleges. Chris Crawford, Stancil's Hall of Fame Inductee, marveled at Stancil's basketball IQ and athletic ability, which earned him the moniker " Stan the Man." His peers in the US Marine Corps regarded Brother Stancil as a top defensive player. As a shutdown defender, he saw removing the other team's primary scorer as one of his challenges. The MBA Hall of Fame teammates who were a part of Brother Stancil's career respected him and knew he would give 100% in everything he did. Brother Stancil would have won defensive player of the Year multiple times if there had been an award during his playing days. In an arousing acceptance speech, Brother Stancil thanked his late coach Samuel Leatherbury first. It was Coach Leatherbury who guided and pushed him to achieve his potential. Finally, Brother Stancil thanked his lovely wife Angelia, his daughters Briana and Deja, who were present, and his other children, who couldn't make the trip. In addition, he expressed gratitude to his children for their understanding while he pursued his love of basketball.

Brother Hailstock Recognized by County Gaithersburg/Rockville (MD) Alumni By: Pedro Arguello

To open its celebration of the Juneteenth holiday weekend, Montgomery County, Maryland, held its African American Living Legends award program on June 16, 2023, at the Black Rock Center for the Arts. One of this year’s awardees was Brother Henry Hailstock from the Gaithersburg/Rockville (MD) Alumni Chapter. These awards go to distinguished individuals in the County who have helped shape the cultural heritage of the African American Community. The honorees have dedicated their lives to service and excellence, with accomplishments in business, health, medicine, sports, education, law, ministry, community organizations,, and politics. Brother Hailstock is revered as a living legend for his long history of work within Montgomery County, some of which includes serving as President of the NAACP in Montgomery County, having served on the Advisory Board for the Universities at Shady Grove as well as on the County African American Liaison Committee working with the Montgomery County Police Department. As well as having been a member of G-Rock and serving as the chair of the Kappa Youth and Community Foundation. Thanks to his achievements in serving Montgomery County, Brother Hailstock is well deserving of being recognized as an African American Living Legend.

On June 25, 2023, the FGAAC hosted its first white party in over four years. The event was held at the Springhill Suites Hotel in Chester, VA. The turnout was incredible! The biggest surprise was having our chapter's second most senior member (Brother David Lee) join us for this event. With over 60 years in the bond, Brother Lee still supports chapter events by selling tickets and attending our events. There is no finer example of a brother’s commitment and responsibility than what he continues to display. He brought along his two beautiful daughters (Daphne and Deidre) on this occasion. Brother Lee ate, socialized, and laughed. He also took the opportunity to show off his moves on the dance floor with his daughters. To our surprise, he joined the brothers as we strolled through the party, bringing our guests to their feet with applause. I am more than positive that a brother who has exceeded the age of 80 and still

strolling was something our guests have not had the privilege of witnessing. We also had the support of our newest Senior Kappa (Brother Michael Cooper-Fall ‘82) and his Silhouette (Caroline). Brother Cooper organized the brothers for the stroll. He also took the opportunity to take the mic and “hype up” the crowd. This event was a huge success, in part, because of the efforts of our Senior Kappas and 50-Year Brothers. We are proud of our Seniors' work supporting the chapter and look forward to the next event.

STEM Pilot Program Fort Washington (MD) Alumni By: Dr. Troy Joyner

Brother Leon Staton, the STEM Chair for Boeing Intelligence & Analytics Company (BI&A) and their parent company, Boeing, conducted a pilot program called "Dream Learners" with Kappa Leaguers of the Bowie/Mitchellville Alumni Chapter (BMAC), Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The pilot program introduced kids to personnel in a variety of roles over the course of the year. It also introduced them to the paths personnel followed toward their roles. There were discussions about space, the environment, and waste during the lesson, as well as answers to questions from both the participants and some parents. Our Program Director, Frank Hatten, speaks about our program: He said, "Leon!" Your leadership, commitment, and dedication will serve as a benchmark for all teammates across the organization. This will allow us to leverage our Dream Learners programming in partnership with community organizations nationwide. The first in-person activities included the "Stop Robot Project" and an airplane contest, which adults enjoyed. BMAC Honored During Prince George's County (MD) Father's Day Initiative Bowie/Mitchellville (MD) Alumni By: Bruce Edwards

In honor of Father's Day 2023, the Kappa League for the Bowie-Mitchellville (MD) Alumni Chapter (BMAC) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was the proud recipient of The Fatherhood Community Engagement Award. BMAC Kappa League Committee receives this award from the Department of Family Services/Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Division for continuing to support youth throughout the county. Brother Bruce D. Edwards, Esq., received the award for BMAC and chairs BMAC's Kappa League. Further, The Honorable Brother Michael R. Pearson, Judge for the Circuit Court of Prince George's County, delivered the keynote address.

Additionally, BMAC's own Brother Marlon Selmon was also the recipient of the 2023 Fatherhood Honors Award as presented by the Prince George's County Commission on Fathers, Men, and Boys in recognition of the spirit of fatherhood Brother Selmon promotes both at home as well as within our community by utilizing his photography expertise to highlight and illustrate the activities of the BMAC Kappa League. As always, the BMAC Kappa League strives to train young men for leadership and to prepare them for manhood.

Corey Locklear. Brother Patrick Pickard and Polemarch Howard presented chapter awards to this year's recipients. Also, the Chapter’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented, as we do every five years per our chapter milestone years.

DVA Celebrates 25 Years... Danville (VA) Alumni By: Keshon Kelly

On Saturday, May 13, 2023, the chapter celebrated our 25th Anniversary at the Cottontail Events Venue on Craighead Street in Danville, Virginia. The Danville (VA) Alumni Chapter, affectionally known as "DVA" Charter Member and Past Chapter Polemarch Brother Keshon “Shon” Kelly, served as the planning chairman for the event. A total of two hundred people attended, including brothers and their guests. Grand Board of Directors Member (Alumni) and 28th Eastern Province Polemarch, Brother Robert L. Jenkins, Jr., Esq., gave the keynote address to the audience. It was a memorable evening for brothers and guests as they fellowshipped, ate, drank, and danced. Brother George J. Durham, Jr., recognized the Chapter's 18 charter members. The 14th Chapter Polemarch and Eastern Province Reporter, Dr. DeAndre T Howard, greeted all brothers and guests present.

Brother Moody is a 50-Year Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. 3. Mr. Barry Mayo - Member of the Danville City Council - Barry has served as a mentor for young men ages 8-18 and has been active in the community throughout his life. He actively serves youth in the community by volunteering for countless programs and projects at George Washington High School, Bonner, and Westwood Middle Schools. He also volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club of Danville and the Danville Area Big Brothers/Big Sister Originations. Barry is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the Rho Iota Chapter in Danville, VA. A committee that consisted of Brothers DeAndre Howard, Marvin L. Marvin, Patrick Pickard, Johnny Moultrie, Isaac Clement, and Committee Chairman Brother Keshon Kelly planned and executed this event. Some brothers attended from neighboring chapters, and members of the local Pan Hellenic Council were also present. On February 28, 2023, the brothers of College Park-Sandy Spring (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and guests gathered virtually for a CPSS Estate Planning Seminar led by Brothers Steve Hines and Kevin Wilson, Esq. In early 2022, the chapter saw a need to feed the chapter brothers and their family members in their endof-life plans through estate planning. The chapter recognized they gained a great asset in the newly initiated Brother Kevin Wilson, Esq., who was eager to give back to the Bond himself. Additionally, Brother Steve Hines could see how facilitating such a virtual seminar could educate brothers on fortifying the chapter and Kappa Community Development Foundation (KCDF). By defining beneficiaries in portions of estates, there could be an opportunity to transfer funding to foundations tax-free, which could move forward the future success and endeavors of the chapter and community.

On April 21, 2023, the Brothers of College ParkSandy Spring (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., gathered at Prince George’s Community College to present a check to this year’s very first Community College scholarship-winning student, Terrell Lawrence. Kappa Community Development Foundation, Inc. is a Maryland non-profit corporation, registered Maryland charity, and 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Kappa Community Development Foundation was founded in 2006 to raise money for programs and initiatives designed to assist DMV-area families in need and provide young people with guidance and resources. The Brothers expressed a deep desire to reward scholarships to deserving undergraduates attending community college in addition to scholarships already awarded to students attending 4-year universities and colleges. In addition to recognizing academic achievement in 2-year educational institutions, this was an effort to blaze new trails in the region and Eastern Province. Mission Achieved! College Park Sandy Spring (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Polemarch Mark Ellington (9th Administration) and planning committee took a shot on bringing something new creative and innovative to the Eastern Province and Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia (DMV) area on 6 May 2023. The Kappa Derby hit the DMV with a curated, grown, sexy party for a purpose. The remarkable signature event included celebrity hosts, DJs, and revered chef; Joe Clair (Comedian/Radio Host), Britt Waters (ABC 7 News DC), DJ Trini (93.9 WKYS), DJ Tanz, DJ Spinerello, and more. The inaugural event was extraordinarily successful and is poised to be even bigger, better, and more excellent going forward. Attendance from Divine 9 and the public was in full force. Once the Brother’s credentials are accepted, he enters the VFH lobby. Once in the VFH lobby, there is a photo gallery and video tributes to the Founders and the CMD Charter Brothers. Brothers can access chapter information about the current Chapter schedule, activities, and services. The command line allows the Brother to return to the lobby to access Chapter documents such as the current strategic plan, the calendar of events, Guide Right information, Community Service activities, social events, application notifications, and the ability to log out. From the lobby, Brothers access the Chapter Gallery. The Gallery presents CMD’s Tribute to the Founders, Tribute to the CMD Chapter Founders, and access to Guide Right, Community Service, and Social Events. Also, the Polemarch's Room is on the upper level of the lobby. Here, Polemarch can provide communication to the Chapter. On the main floor of the lobby is the entrance to the Chapter’s Meeting Room. The Meeting Room provides the Brother's ability to attend Chapter meetings virtually. Highlighted and centered across the bottom of the lobby is a secondary command line that provides access to the Polemarch’s Room, the

Chapter Meeting Room, and the Alumni Chapter Gallery. In short, the application offers multiple means to move around the VFH in a manner they are most comfortable. There is a chat capability allowing Brothers to communicate with one another while visiting the virtual house. Talking with Brothers at Chapter Meetings, Diamond Breakfast, Community Service events, and social activities, it is evident the Brothers have embraced the VFH. Their positive feedback from the introductory training to their ongoing use is encouraging. Their feedback indicates the Administration is achieving this primary objective by bringing Brothers of all ages and technical abilities together to receive the Chapter’s message. As more content is made available to the Brothers, this social media platform becomes CMD’s primary source of information dissemination for the Chapter. CMD thanks the Winkley Family for their generous contribution to achieving the CMD 35th Administration’s goal. Eventsibles developed and operated the VFH application. Eventsibles is the brainchild of mother and daughter entrepreneurs Patricia Wilker and P. Michelle Wilker. Atlanta, Georgia, is the company's headquarters. Each year at Christmas time, the Danville (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi adopts a family in need for the holiday. Usually, the name comes from the Division of Social Services or another community organization that works with those families in need. This year the chapter was given a family of 6 who requested toys and clothes for 5 children. Several brothers went shopping at several stores to fulfill the wish lists and we were successful. When we delivered the items to the families, they were surprised and very thankful. DVA has been serving the community for years and will continue to do so.

On June 2, 2023, the Fort Gregg-Adams (VA) Alumni Chapter brothers demonstrated their community service by attending the Petersburg Relay for Life event. For those unfamiliar with this event, Relay for Life is one of the world's most significant peer-to-peer fundraising events. For more than 35 years, communities around the globe have come together to raise funds for a future free from cancer. This year’s event was held at 524 S. Sycamore Street in Petersburg, VA. As such, it was the chapter’s first year supporting this event since the onset of COVID-19. In a short period, the chapter raised nearly $1500. This effort landed us 2nd out of 17 teams for overall fundraising efforts.

Bennie L. Terry was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc in the 9th line of the Fort Lee (VA) Alumni Chapter named the Inseparable Four Winter 1990. On 7 June 2023, Polemarch (16th) Rolandus Branch Sr and Brother Sam Burns (Achievement and Awards Committee Representative) had the honor of presenting

the inaugural David Lee Scholarship to Mr. Gavin Shelton. The David Lee Scholarship is named in recognition of one of our most faithful and accomplished senior members Brother David Lee. Brother David Lee was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. via Central State University, Delta Zeta Chapter (Fall ‘58), and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in History and Education in 1960. He then enrolled and graduated from Central Michigan University with a Master of Business Management in 1971. Brother David Lee retired as Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army with 20 years of ActiveDuty service. Brother David Lee continued to serve admiralty as a Civil Servant, completing 24 years as a Department of Defense Federal employee. Awardees: Mr. Jared Arthur ranks 122 out of 342 with a GPA of students in his class, earning a GPA of 3.68. He will enroll at Norfolk State University. Marlon Bowers ranks 209 out of 342 students in his class, earning a GPA of 2.95. Upon graduation, he will enroll at Virginia State University. Mr. Gavin Shelton (Colonial Heights High School) ranks 2 of 214 students in his class, earning a GPA of 4.4 (Advanced Placement and Honors courses). He finished his high school career with selection as an AllState Drum Major. Upon graduation, Mr. Gavin Shelton will matriculate to Bridgewater College, majoring in Music and Psychology. We charged Mr. Gavin Shelton to remember and represent Brother David Lee reflecting on his achievements and service as a family man, veteran, educator, and servant leader! Diversity In Swimming Towson-Catonsville (MD) Alumni By: Kendall White

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. launched its 1st Kappa Swim Club event at the 86th Grand Chapter Meeting at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Pool in Tampa, FL. Brother Tyree Powell of the TowsonCatonsville (MD) Alumni Chapter and Brother Cullen Jones of the Charlotte Alumni Chapter were featured among the former Division 1 swimmers. Approximately 50 youth participated in the hot summer sun of Tampa, FL, where they learned about water safety and valuable swimming techniques for some of the more advanced swimmers. All had a fun time. Brother Tyree Powell is the Co-Chairman along with Brother Brian Pinkney for TowsonCatonsville (MD) Alumni's Diversity in Swimming Program, which held its annual Diversity in Swimming Day in Baltimore County, MD, where for the 2nd year in a row, over 100 youth are treated to 2 hours of learning and fun. The Diversity in Swimming program started in 2022 as Towson-Catonsville sought to launch this innovative program teaching the youth in our area about “…water safety and the joy of swimming…” according to Brother Pinkney and Brother Powell. In 2023, Brother Pinkney and Brother Powell teamed up with the Howard University Swim team for the program as they sought to expand its reach, which started as part of the

effort to provide swimming safety to youth at the start of each swim season. In 2024, Brother Pinkney is looking to have two full days of training and fun at the beginning of the summer season in May. Currently, the Towson-Catonsville Alumni chapter is working for additional funding to expand the swimming diversity program to be a multiweek training for the youth throughout the year because the discipline required to be a swimmer carries over to other aspects of life, which helps to breed a success-oriented attitude and outlook.

CPSS Organizes ‘Policing in America’ Town Hall Meeting at University of Maryland College Park/Sandy Spring (MD) Alumni By: Jerome Parker

On April 22, 2023, the brothers of College ParkSandy Spring (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and guests gathered for a Policing in America: Town Hall Meeting. The purpose was to share information from two CPSS brothers who are police officers, Brothers Ean Vessels and Ray Peele, on how to de-escalate encounters with the police and to share their perspectives with the audience. Members, Kappa League, Theta Theta Undergraduate Chapter, and the general public attended the town hall. The chapter was greatly compelled to build bridges between

law enforcement and the community due to recent news of Tyre Nichols's Killing in Memphis, Tennessee. Silver Spring (MD) Alumni (SSA) Chapter is committed to keeping our community clean. Over the last ten years, the SSA Brothers have maintained both sides of a one-mile stretch of a major street in Montgomery County. The clean-ups are done quarterly and usually last several hours. A section of this street maintained by SSA has received recognition throughout the community. During the meet and greet, they could donate $2,500 to the area's public schools and the local Boys and Girls Club. The men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity in the Gainesville-Manassas Alumni Chapter and the Northern Virginia Kappa Achievement Foundation applaud these remarkable women for their outstanding contributions and commitment to excellence. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to all of us, and we are honored to celebrate their success. This event marked a significant milestone in the Gainesville-Manassas area. The GMAC had fathers and sons working side by side, providing service for GMAC and WOA participants. Several companies and individuals sponsored this great event, including the WOA's Platinum sponsor AARP. NVKAF provides scholarships and financial aid to students in Northern Virginia, primarily focusing on academic services, leadership training, career exposure, and financial assistance for youth and young adults. Proceeds from the WOA event will fund scholarships for deserving high school seniors, enabling them to pursue their dreams. The NVKAF has provided over 50 scholarships to earning high school seniors, including $8,000 awarded this year alone. Additionally, GMAC continues to make its mark in the Gainesville-Manassas area by adopting the busiest stretch of road. Citizens in the community would not usually be aware of the chapter's presence because of this visibility. Travelers asked many questions about GMAC during the cleanup.

Guide Right 2023 Chesapeake-Virginia Beach Alumni Beautillion Chesapeake/Virginia Beach (VA) Alumni By: Andre Thercy

The Chesapeake-Virginia Beach (VA) Alumni Chapter hosted its 22nd annual Beautillion Militaire Program on Saturday, May 6, 2023, in Portsmouth, Virginia. Over two decades, the Chapter has cultivated some of Hampton Roads’ most highly astute male high school seniors via eight months of mentoring and leadership development, college preparation, and life-skills enhancement. The Beautillion banquet is the culminating event – celebrating the young men’s accomplishments via an evening of culture, elegance, and fanfare.

Militare Program has been the Chapter’s signature event and is the only one for the Hampton Roads area young men. Brother Earl Brown-Sconiers is responsible for bringing the idea of the Beautillion Militare to the Chapter in 2001. Since then, five other brothers have served as program directors. Currently, under the leadership of Brother Elegear “E. G” Primus, Guide Right Director, the program has expanded exponentially. It continues to impact the Hampton Roads, VA, area sustainably. The number of program participants and Chapter Brothers directly involved as room leads/coordinators has also doubled. Since its inception, over $400,000 were in scholarships. There have been 206 students engaged with the program, of which 191 have been presented at the formal banquet and received scholarships. Through collegiate and alumni chapters, approximately 15% of Beautillion Militaire Program graduates have become members of our noble fraternity. The Chapter affectionally refers to the Beautillion participants as “its’ sons” and sees each young male passing through its ranks as an extended family, thus embracing the African Proverb: “It takes a village to raise a child.” It was most certainly an auspicious occasion.

The nine young men received scholarships and gifts totaling approximately $60,000. Over 250 guests, including Divine nine dignitaries, civic leaders, local government officials, and family and friends, assembled to witness this capstone experience articulated via a formal waltz presentation (choreographed by our very own Bro. The Hampton-Newport News (VA) Alumni Chapter’s Guide Right Committee concluded its 50th consecutive year of leadership development via the Hampton-Newport News Kappa Youth Leadership League on Sunday, June 11, 2023, with the chapter's Ninth Annual College Signing Day and Kappa Scholars Recognition Program. During the ceremony, our four Kappa League Seniors, whose average GPA is 4.0, signed letters affirming their commitment to collegiate academic success. The chapter's scholarship committee also chose four graduating seniors to be named " 2023 Kappa Scholars." Each Kappa Scholar received well-deserved scholarships as recognition of their stellar academic achievements. Since the 1973-74 academic year, the chapter has been tirelessly supporting youth in the Hampton Roads area. It started with a group of 24 Kappa Leaguers in September 1973. It now proudly boasts 80 Kappa Leaguers on the role and a recreational sports component providing leadership development, mentoring, and wholesome recreational activities for over 200 students aged 6 to 18 since 1996.

Military Service Brother Lorenza Cooper Honored with Military Display in Maryland’s Senate Building Silver Spring (MD) Alumni By: Mark Felder In recognition of his distinguished military Achievements, Brother Lorenza Cooper’s heroics are enshrined for a year of public display in the Senate Building in Annapolis, MD. Commemorating his accomplishment as the first Black Commanding General of the Maryland Defense Force (MDDF), along with 33 years of service in the Army National Guard (ANG), Brigadier General Cooper garnered inclusion in the “In Freedom Name” Display-- a touring exhibit of 43 panels that are the first to celebrate the military service and sacrifice of Black Marylanders. Brother Cooper will share the panel with Maryland Governor Wes Moore and two other Black Maryland Army National Guard Generals, which denotes the significance of his Achievement. On Sunday, February 19th, 2023, the Brothers of the Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. hosted our 14th Annual Bowling With The Brothers Fundraiser. The event was held at the AMF Capital Plaza Lanes in Hyattsville, MD. We enjoyed an evening of great music, fun, and fellowship. An estimated 300+ attendees were at the event, which serves as one of our annual fundraisers to support our youth mentoring program, our Guide Right Program. We had several distinguished guests present at the event. Some of the notable guests in attendance were our 29th Eastern Province Polemarch, Brother Charles E. Exum, Jr. (Epsilon Sigma, 1990), our Senior Province Vice Polemarch, Brother Richard Mattox (Eta Upsilon, 1987), the Province Polemarch’s Chief of Staff, Brother Ernest Anderson (Epsilon Sigma, 1990) and Prince George’s County Council Member of District 2, Mrs. Wanika Fisher.

Each of our chapter events is used as an opportunity to invite, reconnect and reclaim Brothers that, throughout life's dealings, have become non-financial. Our Eastern Province, 2021 Award-Winning Reclamation Committee, co-chaired by Brothers Ronald Henderson (Alpha Beta, 1966) and Jamon Smith (H/L, 2020), set up a welcome table to engage with nonfinancial Brothers, disseminating information about the Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni Chapter and extending an olive branch to those Brothers to return. Brothers Henderson and Smith also conducted a raffle for non-financial Brothers that could choose from fraternity clothing and paraphernalia, which chapter members donated. Five Brothers were allowed to participate in the selection of items. An honorable mention goes out to the newly formed organization of Silhouettes of Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni Chapter, who came out and participated in this event. It was their first public outing as a newly formed organization supporting their husbands and the chapter.

On Saturday, the 10th day of June in the year 2023, the Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., held its Fourth Annual Sundresses & Cigars Day Party on the sprawling grounds of Hennessy Creek Bed & Breakfast, located in Brandywine, MD. This event has taken on a life of its own, increasing in attendance year after year, even after a brief hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19

The day was perfect for fellowshipping! It included food, cigars, music, dancing, shopping, hookah, and fine libations. This year’s event welcomed over 500 guests, enjoying themselves and helping to raise money for the Chapter’s Guide Right programs and community service outreach. The event raised nearly $40,000 in total. Our patrons came out in their summer’s finest threads, ready to have a good time. The ladies were adorned in some of the finest sundresses, while the men represented well in their summer chic attire. Music for the day was curated by Brother Keion ‘DJ Koolin’ Gaskins (H/L Alumni Chapter – Spring 2018) and DJ Gemini from WKYS 93.9 FM. The event was hosted by Brother Ulysses ‘Stretch’ Garrett (H/L Alumni Chapter – Spring 2017) from WHUR 96.3 FM, who carried the vibe into the nighttime hours. All three did a phenomenal job moving the crowd and keeping everyone engaged and entertained.

Over 12 vendors provided services from premium cigars to tailored clothing, beauty products to wellness services, D9-inspired jewelry, and various candles, oils, and fragrances. The food was provided by District Small Bites and G-Rod’s Jerk Ribs and BBQ food trucks, along with Hennessy Creek, who had the brick oven pizza station rolling! Several prizes were raffled off, including wine and cigar gift baskets, wellness services, and the grand prize – a 65-inch Smart TV. This year’s day party, a staple for the Prince George’s County area, provided another premier social gathering for all to enjoy. We’ve affectionately and ultimately adopted the moniker “not just an event, but an experience!” It was a good look for Prince George's County, for Hennessy Creek, and most importantly for the Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Kappa Foundation of Prince George's County Hosts Student Achievement Ceremony Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni By: Troy Stewart

The Kappa Foundation of Prince George's County hosted its 2023 Student Achievement and Awards Recognition Ceremony on Sunday afternoon, May 21st, at the James R. Cousins, Jr. Municipal Center in Glenarden, Maryland. Together with the Hyattsville/Landover (MD)

Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., they awarded more than $30,000 in scholarships and prizes to Prince George's County seniors and literary contest winners. Parents and students from various schools were in attendance. Dr. Judith White, Chief Academic Officer of Prince George's County Public Schools, and our Chapter Brother and former Congressman, Brother Glenn Ivey, delivered an inspiring keynote address to our students. On behalf of the Kappa Foundation of Prince George’s County, Inc., and its Board of Directors, we congratulate the Student Achievement Committee for an outstanding Student Achievement Ceremony. As part of the event, twenty-five Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Kappa Leaguers were recognized for their exemplary efforts and proficiency this past school year. It spotlighted the six graduating Kappa Leaguers as they revealed their colleges of choice during the National Signing Day portion of the program. The colleges and universities selected by our Kappa Leaguers included: the US Naval Academy, Old Dominion University, Hampton University, North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, and Kent State University. Historically, the Student Achievement Ceremony has been a staple event to commemorate the efforts of our students residing in Prince George’s County, regardless of the high schools they attend. It’s no secret that college and university costs have reached an all-time high. It’s our charge to assist our young people and their families with resources to help further their post-secondary efforts and lighten their financial burdens. Through chapter fundraising and donations, we were able to award 20 students residing in Prince

George’s County with scholarships totaling approximately $30K. A second aspect of the Student Achievement and Awards Recognition Ceremony that we’ve included over the past few years was to spark our fundamental purpose of achievement by adding a literary competition for our students. We introduced an essay contest for students to encourage literacy, induce critical thinking and help prepare students for essay writing. There were roughly 15 applicants who submitted essays. The prizes included a laptop, an Apple Watch, a Nintendo Switch, Apple Air Pods, an Amazon Echo, and an Amazon Cube TV. Examples of the pool of essay questions were as follows: 1. Should TikTok be banned from the US? What are the positive and negative sides of TikTok? 2. Colleges can pay each athlete up to $5,980/year for academic achievement. Should college athletes be rewarded monetarily for academic achievement? What are the pros and cons of this scheme? 3. President Biden proposed a plan to cancel student debt for millions of borrowers. Why is this a good or bad idea? What should be the rules for the repayment of college loans? 4. This year in Prince George's County, multiple car accidents have resulted in serious injuries/deaths of teenage drivers and passengers. What should Prince George's County do to improve the safety of teenage drivers and their passengers? 5. On June 3, 2023, the Kappa Youth and Community Foundation of the Gaithersburg/Rockville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. held its annual scholarship luncheon at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Rockville, Maryland. The event was held to award eight scholarships to deserving African American Males graduating from Montgomery County Public High Schools. Among the awardees was G-Rock’s Kappa League President, Ricardo Taylor, who has been a Kappa Leaguer since 7th grade and will attend Morgan State University in the fall. Joining the brothers of G-Rock and their spouses who participated in the event were the honorable Marc Elrich, Montgomery County Executive; Jim Stowe, Director of the Human Rights Commission; Marcus Jones, Montgomery County Police Chief, and Darryle McSwain, Chief of Police; Montgomery County Parks. Ashton, presently running for Mayor of the City of Rockville, Maryland. In addition, G-Rock was given special recognition from the Mayor and City Council of Rockville, Maryland, for its work through the Foundation to support and improve the surrounding community.

Closing in on Two Years of Achievement and Service Towson-Catonsville (MD) Alumni By: Sandye J. McIntyre III

Over its first twenty months of existence, Maryland’s newest alumni chapter has distinguished itself with a consistent succession of initiatives, programs, and projects for the residents of Baltimore County. Although TowsonCatonsville Alumni Chapter (TCAC) was chartered on November 21, 2021, its charter members had already invested their time, energy, creativity, and financial resources in noble and selfless endeavors to serve the underserved in various Maryland communities for over a decade. These efforts included the following during both the preceding and current fraternal years: Guide Right/Kappa League On June 1, 2022, TCAC held its inaugural Guide Right event at Dumbarton Middle School in Towson, MD. Brother Vernon W. Fisher, the Guide Right and Kappa League committee chairman and other committee members, engaged the young men in open discourse to help each understand his sense of purpose. During this session, which was titled "Destined to Be Here," the Brothers posed two critical questions: What is your goal? How can it change over time? What then ensued was a lively discussion designed to help them see their worth as human beings, their value to their families and communities, and the opportunity for each of them to become change agents in a diverse world, which needs their unique minds, passions, and contributions to both survive and thrive.

Later, these Brothers hosted a pop-up STEM fair at Lansdowne Middle School in Lansdowne, MD. The theme was “Saving the Survivors of the Titanic.” The young men were tasked with engineering two remedies in this life-threatening scenario: how to address hypothermia and how to transport the passengers to safety. They had to construct rescue suits made from everyday household products that could keep the wearers sufficiently warm in the water. They then had to devise a way to transport them to safety using robotics, which they had to build, and drones. On June 25, 2022, the Guide Right and Kappa League committee held its inaugural induction ceremony for its first Kappa Leaguer, Mason Rice. TCAC's membership and several neighboring province chapters participated actively in the virtual ceremony. TCAC was grateful beyond measure for the presence of every Brother, including Keith Sykes, Vice Polemarch, Columbia (MD) Alumni; Herb Marshall, Guide Right Chairman, Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni; and Allan Griffin, Guide Right Chairman, Annapolis (MD) Alumni. From July 6-10, 2022, Brother Vernon Fisher escorted Mason Rice, TCAC’s first Kappa Leaguer, and his family to the Guide Right Centennial in St. Louis, MO. “We only need one” – to start. Humble beginnings can be and often are auspicious when formed at the intersection of bright, motivated youth and committed Kappa men. The first class of the Kappa League was followed by the second class, which consisted of three members. These young men were inducted on October 8, 2022. TCAC is committed to the next generation's education, including STEM disciplines. On July 13, 2022, the chapter’s Guide Right program partnered with Pass IT On (i.e., Pass Information Technology On) to host another STEM pop-up fair, this time at Towson University in Towson, MD.

As part of the Baltimore City Recreation Department program, students worked with drones, robotics, e-sports, and audio engineering. The director of Pass IT On is Brother Dr. Willie J. Sanders, Jr., a TCAC member who earned his doctorate in cybersecurity. Kappa mentors know that a well-rounded education goes beyond academics. Healthy and proper socialization and behavior are just as crucial. This recognition of TCAC’s Guide Right program began mentoring students at Dumbarton Middle School last year. After an altercation between male and female students, the school’s administration asked TCAC to assist. On September 7, 2022, Brother Fisher and other members of the Guide Right committee engaged the students in a discussion regarding the import of etiquette and acceptable behavior writ large. Rounding out the fraternal year, TCAC’s Guide Right/Kappa League program, in conjunction with The National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees, hosted its Kappa Leaguers at the Eastern Province’s Air Show, which was held on September 20, 2022, at Joint Base Andrews. The young men were given lessons on a flight simulator and in aeronautical robotics. They even witnessed President Biden taking off on Air Force One. Beginning with the inaugural Guide Right event at Dumbarton Middle School on June 1, 2022, Brother Vernon Fisher tried to gauge the reading proficiency of those students. That effort led to participation in “Room to Read,” a literacy event that Guide Right conducted on February 3, 2023. Social Action/Community Impact TCAC's Social Action committee, led by Brother Lamont O., conducted numerous food, clothing, school supplies, personal care, and

holiday gift-card donation drives to benefit Catonsville Men's Shelters, Mt. Calvary A.M.E. Churches in Towson, MD, Grace A.M.E. Churches in Catonsville, MD, as well as local schools. These efforts included but were not limited to twenty turkeys for Thanksgiving; assistance with the distribution of additional turkeys and other food; winter essentials, including coats and blankets; Christmas gift cards for underprivileged children, which totaled $800; more than 160 bags of flour; summer clothing; supplies for a “Back-to-School Backpack Program”; Feeding the Seniors, which provided meals and companionship for elderly parishioners; and collaborating with the Baltimore County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta to provide hygiene products to both male and female students. As proud supporters of local youth activities, the Social Action Committee participated in the opening ceremony of the Liberty Road Little League Season. Kappas’ presence encouraged and inspired these young athletes and their families. By providing resources specific to the needs of underserved communities, inclusion initiatives aim to create equity. TCAC and the Eagle Swim Team (EST) jointly hosted the inaugural event on May 21, 2022. The two organizations again partnered for the second annual event on May 20, 2023, which took place on the campus of the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, MD. The program, which served 130 children ages 4-16, is not only a fresh approach to the typical swim clinic, it is part of an ambitious movement born of the desire to save as many lives as possible. Each year, current college-level and experienced clublevel swimmers volunteer their time to work with kids from underserved communities by providing swimming lessons and tips on water safety, with an added emphasis on minority participation in the sport.

Coach Pinkney and EST Coach Scott Ward again served as event hosts. Brother C. Tyree Powell, Head Coach of the NotYetPro Swim School, served as the lead instructor.

8th Annual Bowling Bash Annapolis (MD) Alumni By: Ronald Stokes Sr

“We want to encourage and increase minority participation in swimming at all levels, make children aware of the physical benefits of swimming, teach water safety, and reduce their overall fear of going into a body of water,” said Brother Powell. Headlining the speakers this year was Director Nic Askew of the award-winning Howard University Swimming & Diving Team, the nation's only NCAA Division I swimming and diving team at an HBCU. Brother Rev. Dr. Herman Kelly, a Louisiana state Senior Games Champion, also spoke at the event. The speakers and TCAC’s Social Action committee engaged the parents. They provided them with tips, recommendations, and resources to connect their families with minority coaches, swim lessons, clubs, and teams in the Baltimore metropolitan area. Additionally, TCAC's website and Facebook page posted the resources. “We hope that the combined efforts of our partnership will have an immediate impact on minority kids by increasing their accessibility to swimming, lessons, and teams across our area,” said Brother Pinkney.

On May 28th, the Brothers of the Annapolis (MD) Alumni Chapter threw their 8th Annual Bowling Bash at Annapolis Bowl in Annapolis Bowl in Annapolis, MD. This year our Kappa Leaguers and numerous members of other D9 organizations joined us. Thanks to Brother Ernest Anderson for his leadership in planning the event and assembling the largest crowd we’ve ever had for our Bowling Bash. Everyone had a great time, and we’re all looking forward to the 9th Annual Bowling Bash.

The Nupes of The Mighty A, Annapolis (MD) Alumni Chapter, took some time to relax during the 86th Konklave and attended the Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays baseball game at Tropicana Field in Tampa, FL. The O’s defeated the Rays 6 to 5 and captured 1st place in the MLB American League East Division. Note the message on The Party Deck Message Board acknowledging the Nupes of The Mighty A. Annual Fish Fry Annapolis (MD) Alumni By: Ronald Stokes Sr

On Saturday, July 15, 2023, the Brothers of Annapolis (MD) Alumni held their annual Fish Fry at the Elk’s Club at 2 Pythian Dr. in Edgewater, MD. Fish Dinners were available on a drive-by basis, or supporters could sit down under tents provided by Brothers and enjoy their delicious fish and the music Brother DJ Doug Sims provided. All had a good time. Kudos to Brother Newton Gentry for orchestrating this event. Proceeds go to help fund Community Outreach activities of our Chapter. Please join us next year.

Other Fort Gregg-Adams (VA) Alumni Chapter (FGAAC) Senior Kappa/50 Year Brothers Vandy L. Miller Memorial Luncheon Fort Gregg-Adams (VA) Alumni By: Carl Brown

On May 17, 2023, over 60% of the chapter’s 50Year Brothers and Senior Kappas traveled to Charlottesville, VA, to support the Eastern Province's Second Annual Vandy L. Miller Memorial Luncheon. Brothers met at the Walmart on Route 10 and carpooled to the event. The ride-up was filled with Senior Brothers providing mentorship and leadership guidance. Since this was the first in-person luncheon since COVID-19 began, brothers could socialize with fraternity members they hadn't seen for many years. To our surprise, Brother Herb Coleman (Charter Member) and William Croom (Charter Member) were in attendance. This moment was historic as FGAAC had the opportunity to have three of its remaining charter members at the event. As the event commenced, the brothers fellowshipped, enjoying good food, music, and a few jokes. The message from the guest speaker radiated across the room as his

message focused on taking care of our seniors. He pointed out that young brothers are responsible for ensuring our seniors are crucial to our chapters’ focus and planning. We must introduce and support them with technology and visits to ensure they are cared for. The ride home was just as enjoyable as we shared much laughter along with the military and Kappa history. Once again, FGAAC has done an outstanding job of caring for its seniors, and we look forward to next year’s event.
