Every story and statistic you’re about to read begins with generosity. Because of you, families across our region are receiving care that is compassionate, exceptional and close to home. Donor support in 2025 makes it possible for caregivers to train with an innovative (and diaper-clad!) infant simulation tool - so they’re ready when a critical moment arrives. Patients are benefiting from faster, earlier and more precise diagnoses through the latest scanning technology. And, patients and families are given tools to help them through a behavioral health crisis or a scary new cancer diagnosis. These are not abstract investments. They’re real moments of care, comfort and healing for real people.

As the new chief philanthropy officer for Providence General Foundation, I’m honored to work with a community who believes so deeply about caring for one another.

More than $50,000 in emergency financial assistance helped patients undergoing cancer treatment cover essentials.

Nearly $1.2 million expanded local behavioral health care services so more patients can get the help they need. $50K

New tech trains caregivers for the moments that save newborn lives

In the simulation lab at the Providence Pavilion for Women & Children, a team of nurses gathers around a newborn-sized manikin. The baby’s chest rises and falls, monitors beep and a scenario unfolds: a newborn in distress, struggling to breathe. The team moves quickly and calmly, practicing the same lifesaving interventions they’ll one day perform on a real baby.

The new high-fidelity manikin, generously funded by local donors Evan and Molly Holtzknect, allows caregivers to rehearse emergency scenarios with stunning realism. It’s wireless, portable and can be used across multiple departments –from the neonatal intensive care unit, and labor and delivery to the emergency department.

“This new manikin gives us realism we never had before,” said Heidi Carter, RN, nurse educator.

“You can see the chest rise, hear heart and lung sounds, and even see the baby’s color change when oxygen levels drop.”

Practice builds confidence for the real thing

By practicing in a safe, controlled environment, nurses gain critical hands-on experience before they face these moments in real life. The result is faster, more coordinated and confident care – when every second counts.

FACILITIES & SPECIALIZED CARE

One of several new donor-funded therapy rooms helps local patients get intensive behavioral health care. The newly renovated space allows individual and group therapy for those who need significant support but not full hospitalization.

You’re providing a “bridge” when the world feels overwhelming

In 2025, you helped fill a critical gap in local behavioral health care. Patients who need intensive treatment, but don’t require full hospitalization, can now receive that treatment during the day so they can return home each evening to share dinner with family, sleep in their own bed and stay connected to the people who matter most.

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) opened on Providence’s Pacific Campus in March with new, donor-funded clinical space for group and individual therapy rooms. It’s already transforming lives.

A measurable impact since opening

In 2025, 170 patients enrolled in PHP, and 106 completed the program. The results show the power of timely, effective care:

• 94% maintained or lowered suicide risk

• 86% saw anxiety improve

• 94% experienced relief from depression

• Only 14% required hospital care after completing the program

Behind these numbers are people – parents, spouses, co-workers and friends.

In late 2025, the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) opened, bridging care for those graduating out of PHP. With four-hour sessions each day for four weeks, and telehealth appointments for even more flexibility, patients build resilience and reinforce coping skills that lead to ongoing healing. With these PHP and IOP options that don’t involve a hospital stay, patients are more likely to seek care and follow through with their recovery.

That continuity of care exists because of you. Your generosity makes recovery feel possible for those who were losing hope. Now, patients get the support they need from care teams who are invested in their recovery - and your belief in the power of giving.

Donor-funded guide helps patients navigate breast cancer

The Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook is a companion on a journey no one wants to take – and a reminder that patients are not alone.

When Stacy of Lake Stevens got her very first mammogram, she had no lumps, concerns or symptoms. She just knew it was a screening she was supposed to get.

She got a call that same day to return for more imaging. The results showed cancer in both breasts -- and Stacy will never forget the moment she was told she had stage 3 breast cancer.

“I was sick to my stomach. There was a lot of crying, a lot of disbelief,” she recalls.

A guide for the next chapter

As Stacy left that appointment in a daze, she was handed a thick book called “Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook.” The nearly 300-page guide, funded entirely by donors, is given to every breast cancer patient at the Providence Comprehensive Breast Center the day they’re diagnosed.

“Your

whole world changes at that doctor appointment, and when you walk out, you don’t know where to start,” says Stacy. “That book is an excellent starting point.”

Stacy is one of nearly 500 women who receive “Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook” each year.

The books sit on bedside tables, kitchen counters and are carried to and from appointments. The pages get highlighted, dog-eared, filled with notes, read and re-read. They hold the answers to questions that creep up at all hours.

“In the beginning, everything is very overwhelming. Having this tool in your tool bag is really nice when life just threw you a curveball,“ says Stacy. “It’s a wealth of knowledge - and stories of other women are there, also,” says Stacy.” If you think you’re alone, you’re not.”

After 16 chemotherapy infusions, 33 radiation treatments and two surgeries, Stacy hopes cancer is behind her. But she still keeps that book close. It saw her through her hardest chapters – and she’s focused on the survivorship section now.

A SEASON FOR HEALING

Our community lights the way to healing for children and families

Compassion never takes a holiday. This year it shined brightly at the 40th anniversary of the Providence General Foundation Festival of Trees. Your generosity at the gala and live auction raised more than $1.2 million to support vital children’s services at Providence Everett, including the Providence Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse, known as PICAA.

A night of light and meaning Gala guests enjoyed a beautiful dinner before bidding on travel experiences, exclusive wines, one-of-a-kind items and the trees and wreaths that make Festival of Trees a cherished tradition. One tree, designed by festival co-chair Kathy Duffy and filled with Beanie Bellies, was donated to Dawson Place, the child advocacy center where PICAA is located. Every child who visited during the season received a plush friend - a small gesture of compassion and comfort during a difficult time.

PICAA provides forensic exams, advocacy and counseling for survivors of physical abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence. Each year more than 1,000 children and adults turn to PICAA as a haven for safety and support. This important work is often unseen, making shared moments of care and generosity – like the festival gala – so meaningful.

Care during someone’s darkest time

Every forensic exam, counseling session and moment of advocacy happens because our community believes in and supports this work. That commitment was clear during the Fund a Need segment, which raised more than $650,000 to directly support PICAA. As demand

grows and funding gaps widen, PICAA is increasingly challenged with carrying out the Providence Mission to serve all, especially the most vulnerable. Each dollar raised helps keep these critical services available so individuals and families do not face trauma alone. You are turning moments of crisis into steps toward safety, healing and hope.

Raising paddles – and hope –for those who need it most

The smiles say it all! Festival of Trees was a night of joyful giving. Guests gathered over good food with good company for a great cause. Every raised bid card and round of applause turned an evening of connection, laughter and giving into real healing for the most vulnerable in our community.

Donors are transforming lives with clarity and comfort

You’re easing the way for patients who are facing the uncertainty of a serious illness. In December 2025, the new, advanced PET/CT scanner finished its first year in use. This $4.6 million investment in technology was fully funded by donors like you. More than 1,600 scans were completed last year, nearly 50% more than in 2024. That’s more neighbors, friends and family members who received the critical imaging they needed.

More patients could be seen in 2025 because this new technology is much faster. Scans now take eight minutes instead of 30. That’s a gift of comfort for those living with chronic pain, limited mobility or anxiety. Patients are less likely to move and accidentally cause blurry pictures, which could require a new scan. Shorter times also mean patients are exposed to only about half the radiation as before. With AI-assisted images, clinicians have enhanced clarity so they can diagnose and treat patients at earlier stages. Before, irregularities needed to be 8 millimeters to be identified. Today, it’s just 2 millimeters.

These advancements not only improve patient care but also lighten the daily work of our dedicated caregivers. That means they can now spend more time focusing on patients.

A legacy of love, given in her name

In Betsy’s memory, friends and family made tribute gifts to support Providence oncology teams helping patients hold on to more time.

Betsy was the kind of person who found fun in everything. Her family says she “absorbed life and radiated joy,” whether she was hiking, pulling up crab pots or laughing on the couch with her kids.

Her husband, Devin, says Betsy loved fresh bread and good wine, Pearl Jam, socks of every kind and her ever-present Dr Pepper ChapStick.

More than anything, Betsy loved people. She was a wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend and local therapist.

“She found delight everywhere in life and loved people,” her sister Emily shared.

And people loved her. That was evident by the outpouring of gifts in her memory after Betsy passed away at age 49.

Betsy’s fight for more time

Betsy was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in October 2024. During radiation treatment, she had complications that seemed to be a reaction to medications. A trip to the emergency department revealed something much worsea tumor on her cerebellum. It was undiagnosed colon cancer, in addition to the breast cancer. And it had spread to her brain.

Betsy chose what Devin calls “the hard road.” Treatment with almost no odds. She wanted more time.

“Each step of the way she only asked for a little more time,” Devin shared.

Keeping her memory going, helping others

After Betsy’s passing in late June 2025, her family invited loved ones to give to Providence General Foundation in her memory to support cancer care at Providence.

The response was extraordinary. Tribute gifts arrived from all over the country – from people whose lives Betsy touched across decades and miles. Day after day and week after week, donations kept coming.

“For those grieving, it was an outlet to keep her memory going,” said Devin. “For others, whether it be awareness or financial support, the opportunity for a little more time is a gift we can all wish for.”

Through tribute giving, Betsy’s impact lives on - investing in caregivers and exceptional care to give other patients the best opportunity for what mattered most to her.

“We may have lost Betsy, but she would be proud to know that her memory may provide funds, or just mental fuel, to the teams that can give families and people more time.”

Investing in care that gives more time

Her family hopes the donations show Providence caregivers what a difference they make.

“Devin and I were always incredibly grateful for the care Providence gave to Betsy,” said Emily. “We felt she would have wanted to continue helping others.”

Thank you to those who gave in Betsy’s memory. You’re continuing her legacy, uplifting caregivers and strengthening the cancer care that Providence’s patients rely on every day.

Healing reaches far beyond our hospital walls at Providence Everett. Thanks to your generosity, more than $200,000 helped trusted community health and well-being partners meet people where they are with real help that made a real difference in 2025.

Delivering access, care and connection

Your gifts supported medical and dental care through mobile clinics from Medical Teams International, providing screenings, vaccinations and care for those who might otherwise go without. You connected families to vital resources at the Well Being Community Center health fairs. You helped create joyful, inclusive spaces at Imagine Children’s Museum where children with special needs and their families can play, learn and connect without barriers. You made warm showers and hygiene essentials available

through the Jean Kim Foundation for those experiencing homelessness. And you helped families with housing and nourishing food through Helping Hands Project for our most vulnerable neighbors.

Your gifts touch lives and remind every person that they are seen and valued. Because of you, the Providence Mission doesn’t stop at our walls. It reaches into homes and hearts around us, building healthier communities across our region.
