AI-generated deepfakes are becoming alarmingly realistic, and cybercriminals are using them in social engineering attacks. In one recent case, an employee at a cryptocurrency foundation joined a Zoom meeting with deepfake versions of their senior leadership. The fake “leaders” instructed the employee to download a Zoom extension, which was giving North Korean hackers a way in.
