The Woodhaven Recreation Commission is an advisory board that meets on the third Monday of the month. The commission supports the City Council and the residents with the development and maintenance of quality parks and facilities; promotes stewardship of open/natural areas; creates and coordinates recreational opportuni-ties that encourage citizen involvement; and fosters a strong sense of community while enhancing the social, cultural and physical wellbeing of residents and visitors of all ages.

Welcoming the New Year with Gratitude, Progress, and a Shared Vision for Woodhaven’s Future
Hopefully everyone enjoyed the decorations that were put up around the City this holiday season. We were excited to add new decorations to light up the walking path in Civic Center Park as well. As always, the tree lighting ceremony brought many of our residents to the park to enjoy the parade, the Woodhaven Brownstown marching band, the lighting of the Christmas tree, and the annual tradition of giving Santa the key to the City. Plus, I know everyone always loves the winter fireworks to kick off the season!
It has been a busy year with some new businesses making Woodhaven their home. We welcomed El Vaquero, Dolce V, and Culver's to name a few. It has also been nice seeing so many people enjoying our park in the winter by walking the paths, skating on the ice rink, and playing with their children on the sledding hill.

As many of you have seen on
delays for police, fire, and EMS vehicles, especially those trying to reach Corewell Hospital, a Level II trauma center. This grade separation will ensure that emergency personnel are no longer impeded. It will also reduce the never-ending wait times for our residents, school buses, and commuters trying to get to our shopping areas and restaurants. Indeed, it will certainly benefit all people who live, work, and visit our community. None of this could have been done without our collaboration with the County, State, and Federal government.
Thanks to the passage of the safety mileage, Woodhaven now has a full-time fire department. We have come so far over the years, transitioning from one fire station with part-time, oncall firefighters to two stations with a full-time fire department. The safety of our residents is always the number one con-
Allen Road just north of Van Horn, construction on the grade separation (also known as the underpass) has begun. All of the utilities underground are being relocated. Per Wayne County, the actual construction of the bridge should begin in 2026. This is a HUGE win for the City of Woodhaven. Get Fit with the Hits
All fitness levels are invited to “GET FIT WITH THE HITS!” These easy to follow movement combinations, set to some awesome tunes, are taught in a low impact format with opportunities to ‘pick it up’ if you prefer. !You can join the Woodhaven Senior Club, which has a wide variety of activities to choose from: Bocce Ball Mondays at 9:30 a.m.; Lunch Bunch outing one Monday per month; card games every Tuesday; Bingo on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays as well as on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays; and enjoy, Pinochle every Tuesday at Noon and “31” card game on 2nd and 4th Tuesday. Please see our monthly calendar for dates and times. A Movie Day is held one Friday per month at the Center as well.
Senior Club business meeting is on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, and the Senior Social catered luncheon is on the 4th Wednesday of each month.
Woodhaven on Wheels
Senior Citizen Transportation Reservations: 734-231-6987 Driver
Woodhaven on Wheels is a curb-to-curb transportation service, providing a means of transportation for senior citizens and residents who are unable to drive for medical reasons.
Eligible to residents age 62 and older and if under age 62 with disability and unable to drive due to medical reasons.
Outside of the scheduled events listed, you can enjoy many other travel excursions and activities that change in variety each month, such as: Plays, Casino Trips, Museums, Tours, Dinners, Movies, Feather Bowling, winery visits, ice cream shops, and the list goes on, and on! We even have our own 23 passenger bus which is utilized for our excursions, and it helps keep costs down.
Trips and new activities are announced at the Business Meeting each month and are open to the Club members for 2 weeks. If the trip has not filled up in those 2 weeks, it is then opened to the public.
