Back to Queen’s Park Following the return of the Ontario government to the provincial legislature, FRPO is ready for a busy and productive few months. The start of the building cycle is always a natural time to focus on our goals, and this year our priority is ensuring the professional rental sector remains a central part of the conversation on Ontario’s future. A major focus of our work this quarter involves engaging with the government on key legislative files. We continue to work closely with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and the Ministry of the Attorney General on the regulations for Bill 60, ensuring that the voice of professional housing providers is reflected as these important changes move forward. We have also been active in our response to the proposed regulations under Bill 10. Our message to the government is clear: while we share the objective of ensuring our communities are safe, any new framework must recognize the practical and legal limitations faced by housing providers. We are advocating for a balanced approach that focuses accountability on criminal activity rather than imposing duplicative risks on good-faith landlords who are already working hard to maintain safe environments for their residents. Our advocacy continues to be rooted in a commitment to high standards and constructive partnership. We are working hard to ensure policymakers understand the reality of our industry – one that provides stable, high-quality homes for millions of Ontarians. By leading with evidence and sharing the true experiences of our sector, we are making it clear that professional housing providers are essential to a healthy, functioning housing market. As we continue our engagement with the provincial government this spring, we remain focused on the fundamentals. We are championing the practical, supply-side solutions that are needed to address affordability for the long term. Whether it is unlocking new infill potential on existing sites or streamlining the processes that get homes built, we are providing the roadmap needed to keep Ontario moving forward. I want to thank our members for the professionalism you show every day. Your dedication to your residents and your communities is what gives our association its strength. I look forward to working alongside you as we continue to make a positive impact across the province. Tony Irwin, President and CEO rentalhousingbusiness.ca | 45
