N-ERGISE LIFTING THE WIND SECTOR FROM A HUB OF RENEWABILITY powered by

N-ERGISE has been making waves in the offshore wind industry since 2015. The company maintains exemplary health and safety standards as an engineering consultant to the energy sectors. Head of Business Development and Strategy Adam Tucker spoke about the company’s current work scope and the positive impact it has on the renewable energy sector, in conversation with Imogen Ward.

N-ERGISE is fully focused on the health and safety of individuals in the energy sector. It not only prioritises the welfare of staff, but also the safety of professionals working for its customers. Whether employees, contractors or third parties, N-ERGISE is committed to the elimination of hazards, the ongoing proactive identification of hazards, and maintains a culture that is in full support of the employee’s well-being and the prevention of injuries.
“What we are most proud of in terms of Health and Safety,” Head of Business Development and Strategy Adam Tucker said, “is that we have executed half-amillion man hours completing onshore and offshore projects and, to date, we have had zero accidents.”

Positioned in the East of England, N-ERGISE is perfectly placed to serve the offshore wind industry. With innovative and safetyconscious technology, the company offers a diverse range of services to ensure the continuation of wind farm operations.

“N-ERGISE is based in Great Yarmouth,” Mr Tucker said: “it’s a strategic location, as we are right in the middle of the offshore wind sector, with the East of England being a hub for that market. There is also nuclear, offshore gas, decommissioning and hydrogen development – so, there’s an impressive mix of energy sectors. Our second facility is a satellite office in Teesside, which is another core region for N-ERGISE. The Northeast has a lot of new
construction projects – including in the offshore wind industry.”
The company has been highly successful: N-ERGISE’s prominence in the energy sector, and its success with clients, would not be possible without hard-working suppliers.
“Supplier relationships are paramount to the delivery of our projects,” Mr Tucker
explained. “A key factor to note in a supply chain is how things don’t always go according to plan. When situations like this occur, we must come up with alternative solutions that are supported by our suppliers.
“Thanks to our strong supplier connections, we continually deliver on our customer promises. We encourage similar relationships with our clients, which enable them to feel comfortable calling us for updates at any time.”

Maintaining energy production

All services and solutions provided by N-ERGISE are tried and tested. Using conventional rope access and scaffolding, N-ERGISE provides inspection and repair solutions to wind turbine blades. These services can be provided for either onshore or offshore turbines.

More innovative options include deploying UAV Drone inspection; N-ERGISE also offers thermal and x-ray inspections that deliver the best results for identifying cracks, imperfections and corrosion. The company always endeavours to find a solution to any customer requirement.
N-ERGISE has ample experience working across the energy sectors. With expertise in oil and gas, the company can pinpoint the best solutions and transfer these methods to the renewable energy sector. N-ERGISE’s professionals are always on hand to help (with offshore numbers varying from 70/75 to multiple-hundreds to meet client and project requirements).
Spreading green values
N-ERGISE is fully committed to continually improving its environmental performance and avoiding negative biodiversity interference. As part of its Integrated Management System, N-ERGISE maintains ISO 4001:2015 Certification with BSI.
The objective is to prevent pollution, protect landscapes and ecosystems, and adopt a reduce, reuse and recycle approach to waste. N-ERGISE continually strives to identify and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thereby supporting a climate-neutral
economy. N-ERGISE saves energy, makes efficient use of natural resources and promotes activities that mitigate the effects of climate change, including the use of renewable energy.

The progress of these environmental impact assessments and objectives are closely monitored. By improving energy efficiency and energy conservation, N-ERGISE has achieved carbon neutrality status with no net increase in CO2 emissions based on business-as-usual activities.
During 2022, N-ERGISE funded an approved tree planting scheme to enhance the local landscape and provide sustain -
able habitat for wildlife. By doing so N-ERGISE offset 25tCO2, almost 13tCO2 more than it produced during 2021. Therefore, N-ERGISE can be considered carbon negative.
“In terms of carbon emissions,” said Mr Tucker, “it is a continued improvement plan – we have a structure in place that we abide by daily. As part of this strategy, we implemented an assessment of the supply chain to ensure our suppliers follow our sustainable values.
“We actively research greener product alternatives too. We recently invested in switching to manufacturers that use recycled plastic as a core material, reducing
the amount of newly – manufactured plastic in our company.”
Other green investments include the installation of solar panels on the roof of N-ERGISE’s headquarters, resulting in an estimated 8,000 kWh of generated clean energy per year and a carbon offset of 32tCO2.
An investment was also made into a fleet of electric vehicles, alongside the installation of 22kW superfast chargers at the Great Yarmouth headquarters. N-ERGISE strongly believes in reducing transportation emissions as much as possible.
“Our carbon footprint is continually declining,” Mr Tucker said. “We alway s look for other areas of activity to improve upon: for instance, when travelling within the UK, we look to book taxi services that have a green option. This is a great alter -
native which a lot of taxi firms have, and it’s another proactive step we take towards our sustainability goals.”
A focus on the future
More recently, the company expanded its team, with two new starters joining the company. This expansion is expected to continue in the future as N-ERGISE is eager to enrich the next generation of budding engineers.
Last year, the company opened its doors to a university student on academic placement. They got to experience the industry first-hand, shadowing trained professionals and learning what it means to work in the energy sector. Due to the success of this placement, N-ERGISE will repeat this scheme going forward – paving the way for young and enthusiastic engineers.

With renewability on the mind, N-ERGISE presented at several exhibitions, including the Global Offshore Wind Event – which the company plans to attend again next year. This was organised by RenewableUK (a not-for-profit renewable energy trade association). N-ERGISE is a proud member of RenewableUK, alongside other groups, including East Wind Cluster and Generate, all of which support companies working in the renewable energy sector.
The future at N-ERGISE is certainly not finite. The company is currently aiding ten wind farm sites – providing specialist inspec tion, repair and maintenance solu-
tions – and has a number of confirmed campaigns set in stone (several of which are in place to continue until 2027). N-ERGISE endeavours to uphold its exceptional HSE standards and is, determined to remain accident-free.
“As an ambitious SME,” Mr Tucker concluded, “we are looking to continue our growth. This includes assessing expansion opportunities in other locations to strengthen our growing presence in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

“In less than seven years, we have successfully gone from no income and no projects to a multimillion-pound turnover with prominent projects in the UK, Europe and Africa.”
