Kathy Lee-Sepsick

Femasys Inc.: An Innovative Endeavor by Kathy Lee-Sepsick, Addressing Unmet Needs of Women's Reproductive Health

My goal through the founding of Femasys was to provide women worldwide with superior reproductive healthcare optionsboth for permanent birth control and infertility", states Kathy Lee-Sepsick, who is the President & CEO of Femasys.

Yes, that is her triumphant narrative of business success in the healthcare industry! Her brainchild, i.e., Femasys, has so far achieved significant progress in developing solutions to meet the needs of women who are underserved by the options available for permanent birth control and infertility. Today, she is paving the way for women to get healthcare in a field where there are many unmet medical demands, regardless of whether they are trying to get pregnant or trying to prevent it.

Almost 10 million American women experience fertility problems, yet many of them choose not to get treatment, probably because it would be too expensive. Hardly any advancements have been made in the past 30 years that provide women with a more affordable option at the beginning of the infertility process as an alternative to pricey, uncomfortable, risky, and emotionally taxing procedures.

On the other end of the spectrum, 13 million American women no longer want to have children and have no choice except to undergo the intrusive, painful, and risky surgical tubal ligation procedure for female permanent birth control. Femasys

develops technologies for women's health that have the potential to have a long-term impact by replacing decades-old technology in order to give women better access to reproductive healthcare options.

"I want to bring these topics to the forefront of conversation and empower women to seek the solutions they need. The days of women potentially having to give up their safety, comfort, and financial wellness will be over thanks to the development of these unique solutions and next-generation developments,", Kathy Lee-Sepsick further explained.

While working on its mission to revolutionize women’s healthcare by developing a suite of minimally invasive in-office technologies to provide women worldwide with superior reproductive healthcare options for infertility and permanent birth control, Femasys is actively introducing new solutions, adding more and more feathers to its cap, and steadily climbing the success ladder.

The Spirit behind the Success

Ms. Lee-Sepsick, CEO and President of Femasys, has nearly three decades of experience as a top executive in the medical technology sector and a proven track record of expanding startup businesses and corporate operating divisions. She holds more than 100 patents, both U.S. and international, for

the company's products and product candidates as the principal inventor of Femasys' technology.

Ms. Lee-Sepsick started out in product management at Terumo Medical Company, where she played a key role in overseeing the company's strategic partner, Boston Scientific Corporation. Also, she is a member of Georgia Bio's board of directors. In academics, she graduated from Rutgers University with a BS in Biochemistry and an MBA.

The Tale of Inception and Inspiration

Kathy Lee-Sepsick felt compelled to use her expertise to change the women’s health landscape by creating solutions with safety as the driving factor after seeing first-hand the unnecessary burden placed on women seeking reproductive healthcare. For almost two decades, she has been leading the creation of technologies that will not only meet but also exceed the needs of women.

Like many women, she constantly worried about balancing her goal to succeed in her job with her desire for kids. Prior to founding Femasys in 2004, she had two girls, ages 7 and 4, and she was in need of a suitable permanent birth control option but realized that the available options carried too much risk to satisfy a basic healthcare need. This drove her focus to create what she deemed an ideal birth control solution to ensure her girls and others like them grow up in a society with more and better possibilities!

What Makes Femasys Different?

Femasys is working to advance technologies in areas of women’s health that no one else is focused on and where there are antiquated options, despite the extremely large market opportunities. The goal of Kathy and her team is to raise the bar of care in these areas while prioritizing patient safety rather than making small improvements.

"Early on, we made the decision to develop and manufacture all of our technologies internally to make sure that we would not only be able to meet clinical requirements but also be prepared for the

Kathy Lee-Sepsick President & CEO | Femasys Inc

market and the potential substantial global demand. We believe that our extensive infrastructure and the great care we have taken in developing a number of in-office solutions for women's health set us apart from other burgeoning growth companies", quoted Kathy, adding more colors to Femasys’ rainbow.

Femasys’ Work Environment: A Blend of Collaboration and Devotion

The team of professionals at Femasys is dedicated to the company’s mission of addressing the pervasive unmet needs in women’s healthcare. The CEO’s door is truly always open for anyone who wants to speak about improvements that can be made or learn about the company. Femasys has a workforce that is unwaveringly committed to the mission and a highly collaborative environment given the modest size of the company. The Femasys team is confident they can provide empowering, innovative options to women who deserve them all across the world under the excellent leadership of Kathy Lee-Sepsick.

Tackling the People’s Problems Smartly

The overturn of Roe v. Wade has increased the field's problems and spurred more discussion of women's healthcare, which is drawing attention to Femasys’ efforts to innovate in this area. This decision has brought the health disparities that women face to the forefront of the conversation for women whose access to options is now limited.

Kathy is optimistic that this new attention on women's healthcare will be the industry's catalyst for the creation of cutting-edge new solutions for women as well as an investment focus. The team at Femasys is committed to creating more reliable and safe reproductive health alternatives so that women are empowered to make the best health decisions possible. In 2021, Femasys became a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ, where the

company hoped to have broader access to capital and gain greater visibility of the women’s healthcare initiatives they are advancing.

A Glimpse of Future Outlook: Professional and Personal

Kathy envisions a time when all women have access to better reproductive healthcare options that are safe and accessible across the board. Femasys continues to market FDA-cleared products, and the leading lady is enthusiastic about moving forward with all of her product candidates to offer next-generation enhancements to drastically underrepresented areas of women's health.

"On the personal side, I cherish the time I can spend with my family and have immensely enjoyed being a mother to my two now-grown daughters. I look forward to continuing to travel and participate in activities, such as scuba diving, with my husband of 32 years and our children", Kathy delightfully shared.

Philipp Wyser

Wyon AG: A World Leader in Manufacturing Miniature and Micro-Sized Lithium-ion Batteries

Established in 1999, Wyon AG is a custom-shaped battery manufacturer. For more than two decades, Wyon has specialized in developing and producing customized rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in miniature and micro sizes. The battery manufacturer focuses on cells and batteries for the medical device industry. Wyon guarantees the complete traceability of its products by providing each cell and battery an individual serial number, which helps to track performance and trace components, operators, and more. Wyon adheres to the strict standards of ISO 13485 to ensure its quality management system is qualified to supply the medical devices industry.

Inception Story

Wyon was founded in 1999 by Paul Wyser, his wife Marie-Theres, and their son, Philipp. The innovative idea of a rechargeable battery in pure plastic housing, which has established Wyon's reputation globally, was first developed in the family's garage.

"Since we had no big spending budgets, we had to take advantage of my father's large industrial network. In order to be able to produce a single battery at all, I had to resort to various companies and institutes,"- remembers Wyon's current CEO Philipp.

Eventually, after five years, Wyon started its first battery production for cochlea implants. By the end of 2005, Wyon AG already had 12 employees. Wyon grew together with the growth of its

customers. Presently, Wyon has over 160 employees working in Appenzell, and it is a world leader in manufacturing rechargeable cells and batteries for cochlea implants.

Differentiating Factors

For more than two decades, Wyon AG has specialized in developing and producing customized lithium-ion batteries in miniature and micro sizes. These products offer a range of advantages that differentiate them from the standard rechargeable cell and batteries available in the market.

The company has the necessary experience in miniaturization and achieving the highest possible energy capacity in the smallest size possible. Wyon's customers can choose the shape of their cell and battery from two dimensions. Irrespective of the chosen size, Wyon always ensures that the available volume has been maximized for the most powerful energy capacity possible. Additionally, Wyon's customers can also choose from the company's housing materials, including plastic, aluminum, and titanium, to optimize the battery's functionality in its specific application.

Disrupting the Industry for Better

Philipp believes that finding well-qualified employees with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and producing technological innovations with unique

selling points and real customer benefits are the industry's primary challenges.

However, Wyon's multidisciplinary team has a lot of expertise in designing and producing high-performance batteries that are entirely unique to the needs of its customers. In addition to carrying out the customer's requests, Wyon's highly motivated experts use their in-depth knowledge to advise them on how the finished product might achieve its full potential.

"We strive to use the knowledge, experience, and tradition we have in Switzerland in terms of miniaturization, medical technology, and quality thinking to offer innovative products that allow new diagnostic or therapeutic products that represent a real added value for the end user,"- states Philipp.

Picture of the Future

In the future, Wyon AG will bring more innovative ideas and promising products, further increasing interest and demand. These will also ensure sustainable growth and make Wyon a reference in the field of rechargeable small and micro batteries in the medical field, which are used on or in the body.

Advice for Young Entrepreneurs

Philipp believes developing a concept into a product and successfully marketing it requires a lot of patience. As a great team can only develop innovative and good products, it is essential to constantly foster team and entrepreneurial spirit and create an environment in which everyone can develop their full potential. It is also important to create a good network. If this is achieved, the fun at work will certainly not be lacking.
