Daines Ranch Reference
We’ve worked extremely hard over the years to build our cow herd the way we want. Our cows must have strong maternal traits, good feet, a good udder with lots of milk, calving ease and still possess lots of eye appeal. No replacement females have left the ranch, other than our culls. Due to the fact that our whole family is involved, our cows have to be quiet and easy to handle. We continue to cull anything that doesn’t live up to our high standards.

Affiliate was our pick of the 2018 U2 sale. Wide and thick are the first things that come to mind when looking at him, but he compliments that with sound structure, great hair, and great disposition all topped off by the fact he’s a calving ease sire. He was only used on heifers his first breeding season with great success. He’s yet another herd sire we selected that is out of a Density dam. We expect him to leave us awesome females! Affiliate saw heavy use as a two year old, and will continue to have a huge influence on our program into the future.

We used him on both heifers and cows with great results and will continue to use him heavily going forward.

Blue Sky is an ET bull out of Musgrave Big Sky and a real front pasture donor cow. The result is everything we were looking for in a herd sire. He has loads of shape and style. Blue sky himself has great feet, great disposition and extraordinary scrotal circumference which will translate to high fertility in his offspring.

Danny Boy is a total outcross sire we bought to use in our heifer pen. He is sired by Six Mile Complete 244B, who goes back to Connealy Complete 8484 and out of a Young Dale Barney 2X Dam. Danny Boy did exactly what we were looking for him to do. His calves came easy and had lots of vigour. Danny himself is very quiet and easy to handle and it has been passed on to both his sons and daughters.

Certainly the kind we are proud to raise. A powerful made bull with that irresistible baldy face. 21G is really gentle and nice to handle. His mother has raised a bull sale bull or replacement female every year. Last year, she had a red bull in the sale that sold to Maplerose Farms, Ontario. A maternal half-brother to the 17A cow sold in our bull sale years ago to the Loomis family. They used him until he was 9. When they sold him, he still had awesome feet and they were very happy with the job he did in their herd, as well as his temperament. This bull reminds us a lot of him.
