SWARCO SECURES €24M ASFINAG DEAL

Swarco has won a long-term contract worth €24m with Austrian motorway operator As nag to upgrade messaging technology for the country’s motorists.

Swarco Futurit, headquartered in Austria, will deliver and service up to 2,100 LED displays of various sizes over the next 10 years, with the rst available from July this year. As part of the agreement, Swarco will also deliver replacement parts, maintenance, servicing and software over the next 25 years.

A central component of this deal – which was won by Swarco after an EU-wide tender – is variable message signage. e plan is to expand Austria’s existing IG L system into a uni ed, modern platform with additional displays and sensors.

e signs will be used in upcoming tra c management projects, including in the central region of Upper Austria or on the A10 Tauern motorway, where the aim is to improve the ow of vehicles during holiday periods.

LMT TACKLES INTERSECTION VIOLATIONS

Intersection violations remain a leading cause of accidents in Europe and safety targets remain unmet. In response, LMT of Latvia has developed a GDPR-compliant, AI-powered tra ic monitoring solution that can be installed in hours, allowing municipalities to adopt smart city technology without heavy infrastructure investment.

LMT’s solution combines highresolution cameras, machine vision and edge computing, to detect o ences such as running red lights, illegal bus lane use and prohibited stopping.

Tra ic infringements are evaluated at the edge and sent via the mobile network for enforcement.

In case of violations, the solution notifies local law enforcement and tra ic authorities, which then determine the o ence and the appropriate penalty.

Beyond enforcement, the system provides statistical analytics. By monitoring tra ic flows and movement patterns, urban planners can identify where infrastructure upgrades—such as tra ic lights or crossings—are really needed, replacing estimates with solid evidence.

The solution is operating in six cities in Latvia, covering more than 800,000 inhabitants. To illustrate the impact: in 2024, Latvia’s entire fleet of 3600 camera police cars detected 740 red light violations. In contrast, LMT’s solution at a single intersection recorded six times that amount in just six months.

Scenexus accelerates digital twin solution

Scenexus is demonstrating rapid predictive digital twin so ware at Intertra ic. The UK’s Department for Transport has contracted Scenexus to deliver the UK’s National Transport Analysis Platform (NTAP), in association with Arup. Smart city planning relies on the foundation of accurate, high‑quality mobility data. Recently, TomTom and its Dutch partner Hastig announced a deal to support Nationaal Dataportaal Wegverkeer (NDW) with its urban planning initiative. NDW is a national portal for road traffic data in the Netherlands. By facilitating collaboration between various Dutch government agencies, NDW helps them share mobility data and speak the same ‘language’ when it comes to managing traffic. The goal of NDW is to make the Netherlands accessible, safe and sustainable. This is where TomTom and Hastig come in. Hastig, a long time distributor of TomTom data, uses data from TomTom Junction Analytics in its Intersection Traffic platform to help road authorities and construction companies get a better grip on traffic conditions at intersections. Hastig also integrates data from TomTom Traffic Stats into its Traffic Trends tool to provide transport authorities detailed insight into traffic patterns over time. Together, these solutions are vital for diversion planning, congestion management and smarter mobility choices.

ADASTEC POWERS E-ATAK AUTONOMOUS BUS SOLUTION
