HIGH-PERFORMANCE SOIL COMPACTION

Increased compaction forces are delivered by the new HC series soil compactors being introduced by Hamm. The new models are said to generate up to 15% more centrifugal force than the earlier generation models from the firm.

Operating weights range from 11-25tonnes while engine power outputs range from 85-160kW. However, new ECO modes ensure more efficient operation and allow the machines to operate in partial load mode unless more output is required, saving fuel.

High-performance soil compaction is claimed by Hamm for its latest models

Hyundai’s new ADTs

Hyundai is now offering two ADTs, the HA30 and HA45, with capacities of 28tonnes and 41tonnes respectively. The machines may be new to the Hyundai brand but feature proven designs and technology.

The machines are the well-accepted Doosan models built in Norway and now being offered in Hyundai branding following the tie-up between the firms.

The company claims equal weight distribution due to the sloping rear chassis frame design, which is said to deliver stability by distributing more load towards the centre of the machine and resulting in a low centre of gravity. The machines also have the proven tandem rear axle bogie configuration, which is said to offer a higher degree of articulation than competing designs and optimises ground contact to maximise traction. The machines also feature the articulation joint turning ring mounted close to the front axle, which further helps to equalise load distribution between the front to rear and across the front axle during steering.

The trucks are powered by Stage V-compliant Scania diesels. The HA30A uses a

five-cylinder, 9.3litre, DC9 turbocharged diesel, developing 276kW and 1,876Nm of torque. The larger HA45A employs a six-cylinder, 12.7litre DC13 diesel engine, producing 368kW and 2,476Nm of torque.

Both engines drive through eight-speed ZF automatic transmissions, with integrated retarders. The torque converter has lock-up in all gears, reducing fuel consumption and increasing efficiency. Fuel, AdBlue diesel engine exhaust fluid and a standard auto-lube greasing system can all be easily accessed from ground level. The engine canopy tilts forward for access to filters and fill points, while the cab structure can be tilted to provide access for repair and maintenance.

Hyundai’s Himate telematic monitoring system is fitted as standard, with satellite and GSM connectivity. This allows customers to monitor productivity, fuel consumption, system warning and maintenance status remotely, reducing downtime and improving fleet utilisation.

A GREEN FOOTPRINT

THE ULTIMATE RECYCLING PLANT

In asphalt production, the green footprint is significantly influenced by the fuels used for rock heating and the bitumen required in pavement production.

Ammann has been addressing the issue of sustainability for more than ten years under the motto “The green plant.” Central elements are the careful reuse of recycling, the use of foamed bitumen for low-temperature asphalts and the use of CO₂-neutral fuels. In addition, all Ammann plant series and components are optimised for high energy efficiency and low heat loss.

All pioneering developments such as burners for CO₂-neutral fuels and the hot gas generator technology have been demonstrably put into practice by Ammann in recent years and have consolidated Ammann‘s position as the world market leader in asphalt plant construction.

COMPACT BUT PRODUCTIVE

Ammann claims that its new ARS 30 and ARS 50 compact single drum rollers can deliver high compaction output. These single-drum machine weigh 3tonnes and 5tonnes respectively and are the most compact rollers in the rm’s soil compaction product line.

The machines have a novel design with no rear axle, a con guration that allows a low mounted engine, lowering the centre of gravity and improving stability even on slopes. The design also allows for good operator visibility as well as high manoeuvrability for the machines.

In the cabs, the machines have adjustable seats and vibration-isolated platforms, a robust dashboard and a multifunctional control display.

The drums are designed to be maintenance-free as part of Ammann’s ECOdrop philosophy, reducing the cost of ownership. www.ammann.com

OPTIMISED SOIL COMPACTION SYSTEM

Komatsu Europe International N.V. Mechelsesteenweg 586 1800 Vilvoorde - Belgium

On the road to carbon-neutrality

Dynapac says that its innovative CA3500D SEISMIC single drum roller offers high efficiency and productivity. The machine retains the well accepted and proven features of the CA3500 model but now benefits from the innovative SEISMIC compaction system as well.

This intelligent technology allows the roller to determine the optimum frequency for any compacted material automatically. An onboard machine control unit and next-generation compaction meter work together to allow the SEISMIC system to sense dynamic characteristics of the ground and calculate the optimum frequency for compaction. The process uses advanced data flow from the SEISMIC Compaction Meter to the onboard machine control unit, which regulates the hydraulics. SEISMIC technology automatically detects the resonant frequency of the soil. This system automatically applies

the correct compaction forces exactly where required and can hydraulically change the drum frequency every 0.2 seconds for maximum performance. As the drum no longer randomly hits the soil, it achieves precision and efficiency while saving time and fuel.

The system increases jobsite productivity while reducing the number of passes required and eliminates the risk of overor under-compaction. Fuel consumption can be reduced by up to 55%, while productivity can be boosted by up to 40%. Due to lower frequencies, noise levels are also reduced, while operating at lower frequencies also helps to reduce maintenance needs for the machine.

The SEISMIC feature is now available for Dynapac soil compactors ranging from the 7tonne CA1500 to the 21tonne CA6500 model. www.dynapac.com

Komatsu is committed to minimizing environmental impact through its business, targeting a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions from use of its products and production of its equipment by 2030 and a challenge target of achieving carbon neutrality by

Komatsu is adopting a two-pronged approach toward this drastic reduction. With about 90 percent of the total CO2 being emitted by products in use, the rst prong is to increase the equipment’s work and fuel ef ciency, and to transition from diesel and other internal combustion engines to cleaner power sources, including hybrid and electric engines and fuel

The second prong is the improvement of processes. CO2 emissions will be lowered also by optimizing customers’ workplace operations and processes, to reduce the amount of equipment needed along with actual operating hours.

At bauma 2022, Komatsu will present a vision for the workplace of the future and their innovative battery-electric-powered products that will be launched onto the market.

An innovative solution for binder and chipsealing applications is now available from Secmair. The rm’s new Chipsealer CT is a versatile machine combining both binder and chips applications.

According to Secmair, the machine can be adapted to a range of jobsites and for duties such as surface dressing, tack coating before the hot asphalt mix, coating and priming and localised treatments. The chip application rate is optimised to ensure that there is no waste and the system is said to ensure accuracy and quality during application, providing the same level of quality as for conventional surface dressing

equipment.

The machine is controlled by a single operator who sits in the cab, with high visibility of the worksite and optimised safety. A camera at the front of the vehicle provides visibility of the working area.

The CHIPSEALER CT is equipped with a proven conveyor belt discharge system while the telescopic spraybar allows maximum spreading widths of up to 4.4m. Tank capacities can range from 4,000-9,000litres, depending on the customer requirements.

The cab features joystick controls with a screen showing all key parameters, while the unit has automatically controlled application.

EFFICIENT RECYCLING SYSTEM

Ammann has developed an ef cient technology for introducing RAP into the asphalt mix with its innovative RAH100 recycling system. According to the rm, this is capable of producing mix containing up to 100% recycled materials. Ammann says that the quality of the mix is high, despite the use of RAP however. The key advance that allows the use of RAP in such a high percentage has been the development of a gentle heating process.

The rm recognises also that using up to 100% RAP in the feed is dependent on the availability of quality material as well as effective logistics with regard to its retrieval and storage. For applications where lower quantities of RAP are to be used in the feed, Ammann also offers the RAH50 and RAH60 dryers, which have maximum usage of 50% and 60% RAP, respectively. In addition, the rm offers the RAC system, which can handle up to 40% RAP in the feed.

All Ammann recycling systems are able to produce high-quality mix with 100% virgin aggregate if so desired.

www.ammann.com

Other key features include an exclusive valve block to manage the binder, precise dosing and transversal distribution. The controls ensure that the unit will apply the correct quantities of materials. Other important features include thermal insulation and heating, a system that minimise fuel consumption and an ef cient purging control that is 100% automatic and ensures that there is no waste left on the ground.

The CHIPSEALER CT can be equipped with the rm’s new pilot system, which allows a more precise patch application without overconsumption of materials. www.secmair.fayat.com

High-performing asphalt pavers

Vögele is offering two improved asphalt pavers aimed at the highway class. The new SUPER 1900-5(i) and SUPER 2100-5(i) Highway Class pavers are the rst models in the rm’s new Dash 5 generation and are equipped with the latest-generation AB 500 and AB 600 Extending Screeds. The rm says that these new pavers bene t from the latest technology so as to meet the increasing need for digitalisation in construction.

Flexible, modular systems are featured that meet needs for process automation and sustainability, as well as user-friendliness and economy.

User requirements have been a key focus during the development of these machines according to the rm. For the paving crew, this

allows simple machine handling, maximum operating convenience and safety on the job site. Reduced setup times, improved logistics and greater machine availability are said to deliver fuel economy and reduce material wastage, helping address increasing fuel and materials costs. New automation and control technology provides operator assistance and has been optimised to prevent errors and to increase ef ciency and paving quality according to Vögele.

Reducing the noise emissions and fuel consumption of Dash 5 pavers while maintaining the same performance helps meet sustainability targets for contractors, while also lowering fuel costs and CO2 emissions. www.voegele.info

ASPHALT ROLLERS

Hamm is introducing a range of eight compact tandem rollers featuring electric drives. The rm’s new HD CompactLine models will all be offered with the option of electric power instead of the conventional diesel engines.

There are 24 models in the conventional CompactLine at present, with weights ranging from 1.6tonnes up to 4.8tonnes as well as drum widths from 800-1,380mm and an array of speci cations and features. Hamm has offered emissions-free electric variants of the most popular units however.

The new electric models feature Li-ion batteries with 23kWh capacity, allowing operation for a full working day without the need to recharge. Included in the electric range is a model featuring both oscillation and vibration, the rst such model available on the market. This last unit will be of particular bene t for working in urban areas as it is quiet in operation while the oscillation system means it does not transmit vibration to the surrounding area. www.hamm.eu

Ef cient concrete batching

Modular design is the key feature of Liebherr’s new mixing plant generation. The modular design allows Liebherr to tailor the plants to meet customer requirements. In addition, sophisticated frequency converter technology reduces current consumption by up to 30%.

The Betomix and Mobilmix mixing plant series use prefabricated modules and replace several earlier models. Increased weighing accuracy allows up to 7.5kg of cement to be saved for each 1m3 of concrete produced, reducing operating costs.

site, reducing transport costs while they can be quickly assembled and commissioned.

Liebherr offers its own twin-shaft or ringpan mixers and different units can be speci ed as required. The units can provide rates of 100-210m³ of compacted fresh concrete/hour while optional accessories can be integrated. Different storage facilities for the aggregates can be incorporated, such as a tower silo or the optional winter cladding.

Various modules can be combined with other modules, while the units are prewired and assembled at Liebherr. These modules are within the 3m width restrictions and can be delivered as complete units to the construction

MILESTONE IN ASPHALT PLANTS

Marini says that its innovative EvoDryer technology allows for a high percentage of RAP use in asphalt mixes while optimising quality. The system can help minimise emissions also, while ensuring high ef ciency in asphalt batching operations. The new Marini EvoDryer offers high ef ciency when introducing the RAP to the recycling ring, while also offering versatility.

One of the key features of the Marini Evo Dryer is the increased length of its dryer drum, allowing the plant to change the position of the RAP Introduction after the dryer ame and in turn providing plant operators with added versatility. As a result the aggregate heat exchange area stays constant, ensuring an ef cient drying process.

In addition, to ensure the correct position of the ame inside the dryer drum a special long burner with internal protection is now available. This design means that the RAP introduction area is positioned after the

ame, allowing a mixing area at the end of the cylinder, between the aggregates and the RAP. The design includes purpose-built mixing blades that reduce the stickiness of the RAP into the dryer drum.

The RAP can then be heated gradually, without being over-stressed by the high temperatures in the ame area. This allows the residual bitumen to be recuperated ef ciently, without the risk of burning or drawbacks found with some conventional dryers such as high emissions and odour.

The Marini EvoDryer comes complete with another novel development, the new EvoDryer cylinder, which can be used to treat the fumes produced by the mixing tower in the discharge area of the mixer. A dedicated fan system sucks the diffused emissions produced by the mixer discharge. It also allows the management of the complete system and to convey emissions to the dryer discharge area behind the burner. A de ector inside the cylinder optimises the air ow emissions inside the drum, which are then ame-treated to burn off organic particles, reducing emissions and odours. www.marini.fayat.com

LOWER PLANT EMISSIONS

The new REVOC technology from Benninghoven is said to lower emissions from asphalt production. According to the rm, the innovative REVOC system allows plant owners to use higher recycling ratios while complying with emissions limits. The patented technology supplements existing hot and cold recycling systems in asphalt mixing plants, reducing the total carbon emissions (Ctot) with up to 50% recycling material added. Speci ed limits are not exceeded. In Germany, for example, the levels remain below the limit required by the TA-Luft regulation.

While reclaimed asphalt can be added to the production process with reliable cold and hot recycling technologies, this does can result in higher emissions of total carbon (Ctot, volatile organic compounds (VOC)). When reclaimed asphalt is heated, part of the Ctot concentrations evaporate from the bitumen contained in the recycling material. These have a higher greenhouse potential than CO2 and are hazardous to health in higher concentrations.

The REVOC system is a solution for reducing emissions from asphalt production by making the existing mixing plants more ef cient. The option of adding up to 60% recycling material can reduce emissions to comply with legal limits. At the same time, the higher recycling content also increases cost effectiveness of existing plants. www.wirtgen-group.com

POWER OPTIONS FOR AMMANN COMPACT ROLLER

Ammann is now offering an electric drive version of its 2.6tonne class twin drum roller, the ARX26e. This features the same compaction forces and drum dimensions as the standard ARX26 model, as well as the same control systems and operator station.

The machine can operate for a full shift on a single charge. It can be fast-charged using a three-phase supply or by a standard single-phase, 16A supply although the latter takes longer. The electric drive to the drum is direct and without hydrostatics, unlike some competing designs, optimising ef ciency. The steering is, however, conventional, using a hydraulic ram.

Although the electric machine is more costly than the conventional twin drum ARX26 units, servicing and maintenance costs are negligible and with fuel prices at a high, payback time is not signi cant and presents a key purchase bene t. For operations in urban areas or underground jobs where exhaust emissions are not allowed, or where there may be bonuses for the use of zero emissions equipment, the ARX26e offers a valuable option.

The company is also offering the ARX26 in other variants. The standard model is powered by a 26kW Kubota diesel that meets Stage V/Tier 4 Final emissions requirements. However, a version with a Stage V/Tier 4 Final compliant Kubota diesel delivering 19kW is also available. This latter unit comes under

the power limit for a machine to be tted with a diesel particulate lter (DPF), offering a considerable cost saving for maintenance and suits use by rental rms. Versions meeting Tier 3 requirements are offered also.

In addition, a low-cost version of the ARX26 is offered with power from a Honda petrol engine. While the build quality is the same as for the other units, Ammann says that it has fewer operating features, suiting it to purchase by customers wanting a simple machine.

Productive pivot steer compactor

Ease of control is a key feature of the BW 154 and BW 174 pivot-steered tandem rollers from BOMAG. The machines are tted with the latest myCockpit system, a new generation control offering a choice of three operating concepts. Operators have a choice of touchscreen, rotary pushbutton switch or classic joystick controls.

The touchscreen allows full control over functions. Touchscreen operation meets the need for digitalisation, though the rollers can also be operated using the rotary pushbutton on the control lever.

The operator can con gure default settings and operate and control all functions using the touchscreen. A driver can set individual user pro les and switch to default settings. There is also a preset pro le for the truck driver when loading the machine for transport.

High visibility allows the drivers to watch

the drum surface and see if the spraying system is working correctly.

The BW 154 and BW 174 tandem rollers are available in several variants and with a wide range of equipment. They offer working widths of 1.5m or 1.68m and operating

weights of 7.1tonnes and 9.8tonnes. Three compaction systems are offered: Asphalt manager2; vibration; or the split drum oscillation TanGO4. The Asphalt Manager system has been simpli ed and regulates amplitude as well as compaction direction. This allows it to achieve optimum compaction quality with minimal passes. The Asphalt Manager system allows the operator to concentrate on the rolling pattern and other machines working alongside, as well as being suited to compacting low-temperature asphalt. Bomag offers optional extras including a second monitor at the rear of the cab for reversing; four additional mirrors on the cabin and rear frame; up to 16 LED lights; a chip spreader; and a measuring technology interface for data transmission to the BOMAP app.

COMPACT ELECTRIC ROLLERS

A key development from Dynapac is with the introduction of two new compact electric rollers. The twin drum CC900 e and CC1000 e models are said to deliver the same power and performance of their diesel counterparts. Both rollers bene t from the advantages of electric drives, with savings on running costs, fewer moving parts, and low maintenance needs. They also have powerful batteries capable of completing a full day of operation without recharging. The CC900 e and CC1000 e deliver the same static linear load, amplitude, gradeability, and travel speed as the dieselpowered models on which they are based, with no compromise on productivity or jobsite performance.

In a typical working day, a 1.6tonne roller will be used for repairs and compaction of around 70-80tonnes of asphalt/ day at a layer thickness of 40–50mm. In terms of area, this is roughly about 700m2. Based on experience, this guarantees that the battery will last for a full

Dynapac’s electric rollers offer zero emissions and quiet working

day of work. In 90% of the cases in trials, about 20-30% of the battery level was left after the workday was over.

With the fast charger, 400V/ three-phase system it takes 1.3 hours to reach 80% charging level. The 230V/single-phase charger needs 6 hours to reach 80% of capacity. Dynapac is planning to provide adapters allowing the use of automotive charging stations.

Both rollers in this segment are primarily used in road repair work and are intermittently used. With conventional diesel motors, this means that they are often left idling while the asphalt is raked into position. After compaction, the machines travel to the next repair site where they are also left idling for extended periods. With a standard diesel-powered machine, a great deal of energy and money is wasted. An electric roller does not idle when not in use. In addition, both models are quieter than conventional units, which is of extra bene t for use in urban areas. www.dynapac.com

‘WASTE’ MATERIALS HAVE NEW STATUS: CDE

Recycling specialist CDE sees a signi cant move in the construction industry’s attitude towards re-using construction and demolition waste, as the world increasingly seeks to conserve resources.

A decade ago, companies were coming to Northern Ireland-based CDE talking about natural sand and gravel and the washing machines needed to clean it. Today, says the company, around 60% of clients approach it asking about recycling solutions – a shift largely due to legislation.

“The goal is to produce aggregate that can be used for construction. The UK has been using this for more than 20 years; in central Europe, it’s now starting. We have some plants already installed in Austria, Germany, and Scandinavia,” said a company spokesman.

“The fact that natural resources may not always be available means that it clearly makes sense to re-use what people call ‘waste material’ – which it isn’t, because it can be used inde nitely for the construction industry.” www.cdegroup.com

KEESTRACK IS ON TRACK WITH THE M5

Keestrack e-drive equipment can run plugged-in to the grid or can be run by the on-board diesel/gen set or by any other generator. The crushers, screens and stackers can all be connected to each other, resulting in even bigger savings.

To facilitate this, featuring on the Keestrack stand is the latest M5 tracked engine unit which carries a Cummins X12 EU Stage V engine and alternator. It delivers 383kW, 450kVA to drive all electric equipment at 197g/ kWh.

The tracked engine – the perfect back up for the ZERO drive machines where there is no source of electricity on site – is part of Keestrack’s lengthy engine/gen set portfolio. Keestrack introduced a few years

ago the rst drop off module, a diesel engine with integrated gen-set, which can power several e-driven machines. It is placed a few meters from the machine in a less dusty environment and allows easier access for service and maintenance, unlike units that are built into a machine’s chassis.

One step further is the introduction of the tracked engine/generator units. These supply connected Keestrack crushers, screeners and stackers directly with electricity in case there is no plug in connection from the grid available. This way the economic advantages of the complete production train will rise due to using only one engine for several machines.

OVERLAND WITH BEUMER

BEUMER is highlighting the latest thinking about how mining companies make their operations more sustainable by reducing their environmental footprint. Ef cient transport of the mined material is paramount.

No two conveying systems are alike, even if the primary task of transporting bulk material from A to B appears comparable. The components and the system must be adapted to the material being conveyed. The mass ow to be conveyed and height differences that need to be overcome over the length of the conveyor line are important factors that must be addressed when designing a system.

The right layout is all-important and the BEUMER Overland Layouting Tool is central for ascertaining the ideal layout for the system at an early stage of the project and designing the ideal conveying solution together with the customer.

It generates a digital 3D model of the conveyor in the virtual landscape during project planning, more or less automatically, according to the company. The critical topography data can either be provided by customers or drones that capture terrain data. These 3D visualisations are also ideal for supporting mining companies in their public relations work. www.beumergroup.com

V emission regulations thanks to exhaust gas recirculation, selective catalyst reduction, diesel oxidation catalyst and diesel particulate lter (DPF) after-treatment technologies.

The DPF automatically regenerates every 25 hours and the excavator continues to work unaffected during this regeneration phase. The operator can check the status of the DPF via the display on the gauge panel in the cab.

The high output of the engine is combined with a Virtual Bleed Off (VBO) hydraulic system (D-ECOPOWER+) and controlled by electric manipulator (FEH). This provides a best-in-class hydraulic ow of 1569 l/min and a high system pressure of 360 bar, together contributing to the best performance in the 100-tonne market.

High capacity haulage

Bell Equipment says that its improved B45E articulated truck offers a performance gain over the model being replaced. This new generation machine features a 4x4 driveline and offers better productivity as it now has rear suspension. This helps improve travel speed over rough ground while also reducing material spillage from the dumpbody, which has a standard capacity of 25m3 although a 26m3 variant with a tailgate is available. The rm says that the suspension system is similar to the design used on the rm’s 55tonne class machine, featuring a Kessler axle and two suspension struts. An anti-slip system and traction control also help improve performance on rough ground, while reducing wheel slip

and tyre wear.

The new dumpbody design offers a payload of 41tonnes, pitching it against 45-50tonne capacity class rigid trucks, while this machine has the advantage of the 4x4 drive system. With all-wheel-drive, the B45E is better able to cope with the steep ramp hauls often seen on European quarry sites than comparable rigid dump trucks with only rear wheel drive.

Power comes from the same emissions compliant, 390kW Mercedes diesel as used in the six-wheel-drive version of the B45, with the key differences being the rear chassis and dumpbody design.

RUBBLE MASTER FOR INNOVATIVE & ULTRAEFFICIENT PLANT

Electri ed quarry mobile processing plant manufacturer Rubble Master is highlighting how its innovative machines can ensure customers up to 25% operating savings.

The Austrian company has been powering its mobile processing plants with electricity for decades. Using this expertise, Rubble Master says it is continuously setting standards in the energy ef ciency and costeffectiveness of its machines. That is why with the tagline Meet the future, Rubble Master says it is displaying technology that “is still a dream of the future for others”.

With the claimed revolutionary new development of the showcased RM H50X hybrid screen and the RM J110X jaw crusher, customers are said to be saving even more fuel costs. In addition, the RM XSMART software solution and other new digital innovations demonstrate how operators and machines can network intelligently to get even higher output. As a result, mobile RM crushers and screens can be combined in a versatile, exible and ef cient way.

Even at a time before steadily rising fuel prices, the electri cation of Rubble Master machines was said by the

company to be a “key economic as well as ecological argument”.

As part of the RM NEXT philosophy, the RM Group says it is consistently supporting electri cation and offers all its crushers and screens as hybrid versions as a matter of principle. These machines can also be operated fully electrically. A special focus is on combining machines to form crushing and screening trains so they can be operated together. This means, for example, that the crusher can also power the screen. That is how customers can save time and money because they only need to refuel and service one engine.

Rubble Master hybrid machines are said by the manufacturer to consume up to 25% less fuel than diesel-direct systems. If a crusher equipped with a hybrid drive system also powers an electric screen - a standard set-up with RM - even greater savings are said to be achievable. With this technology, the savings are said to be much higher than with conventional diesel-hydraulic systems. Another advantage, in addition to lower operating costs, is that the machines can be used in emissions-sensitive areas. www.rubblemaster.com

Switzerland, while passenger cars with these drive systems are under test all over Europe.

A launch date has yet to be announced for the fuel cell excavator and its price is likely to be signi cantly higher than for a conventional diesel machine. However, for applications such as tunnelling the fuel cell offers considerable bene ts as the only emissions from the tailpipe are of water vapour.

Refuelling is said to take just 20 minutes while the performance is said to be comparable with a conventional diesel-driven wheeled excavator in the same size class. www.hyundai-ce.eu

Wacker Neuson’s zero-emission portfolio ranges from battery-powered rammers and batterypowered plates, an internal vibrator system for concrete consolidation to electric dumpers, wheeled loaders and excavators. Included in this long list is the company’s popular E-wheeled loader WL20e that has been in production since 2015.

But the third generation version of the WL20e now has a powerful lithium-ion rechargeable battery. Customers will be able to choose from among three battery versions in the future. There is also now a completely closed cab for operation year-round.

The company also says that it has developed “an absolute novelty in the world of construction equipment”, the rst battery-powered, reversible vibratory plate with direct drive system in the market. The switch in the travel direction is done via the hydraulic adjustment, as in conventional models. www.wackerneusongroup.com

Asphalt planing

Simex is widening its range of planer attachments with the introduction of the new PL 2000 model. This shares technical features with the existing PL 1000, PL 1200 and PL 1500 models, but is larger and more powerful.

The previous top-of-the-range model from the firm was the PL 1500 model, with a 1.5m-wide drum. However, the new PL 2000 features a 2m-wide drum, making the largest planer attachment currently on the market for use with compact loaders.

The unit is said to be highly durable and is able to cope with tough operating conditions. The quality of the milling drum is said to be high due to the use of robotic welding during manufacture, which ensures a rugged and durable tooth holder offering both longevity and performance.

The PL 2000 can be mounted on new

generation skid steer loaders and compact tracked loaders featuring high hydraulic power. Features include independent depth adjustment of the slides on the right and left sides, to ensure flat surfaces with sideby-side passes, as well as a hydraulic side shift that allows milling flush to the walls or sidewalks. In addition, a floating transverse tilt allows the operator to keep the planer aligned to the road surface even when the base machine is not parallel to the ground. The units have the proven Simex selflevelling system, which ensures a constant milling depth regardless of the conditions of the road surface. Also fitted are the firm’s dust suppression system with an integrated and increased capacity water tank as well as Simex’s own Performer device, which helps to keep the correct speed of advance.

Couple quickly with Steelwrist

Steelwrist is extending the company’s quick coupler and tiltrotator offering with the new SQ50, a fully automatic high ow and Open-S compliant solution for mid-size excavators.

The new range of SQ50 quick couplers and tiltrotators is targeted at the 7-13tonne excavator range. Steelwrist SQ is a high performing fully automatic oil connection technology used in quick couplers and tiltrotators on excavators to connect hydraulic work tools. Outstanding ow characteristics and competitive building height and weight are signi cant advantages of SQ50. It meets the speci cations of the Open-S standard for fully automatic quick couplers.

The SQ50 will be phased in on X12 and X14 tiltrotators which means that future S-type quick couplers and tiltrotators will be upgradeable to SQ-type. S50 and SQ50 quick couplers are steel casted and have the Steelwrist front pin lock safety solution. The lock is a mechanical lock of the front shaft which signi cantly limits the risk of an unintended drop of work tools.

Meanwhile, the X12 and X14 tiltrotators have been redesigned. They come with a new top and attachment coupler to make it possible to upgrade from S50 to SQ50 at a later stage, even if the customer did not include SQ in the initial order.

HIDROMEK’S SUPER SUPRA SERIES

Hidromek says that its SUPRA series backhoe loaders overcome every site challenge imaginable. And it does so while keeping the operator in total comfort.

The SUPRA series engine is one of the most economical and durable in its class. The turbocharged engine maintains high torque even at low rpm. On top of this there is a six-gear forward and three-gear reverse fully automatic transmission. The optional torque convertor lock (lock-up) provides fuel economy which is automatically engaged in 5th and 6th gear.

The optional MSS, or Motion Stabiliser System, works as a shock absorber on the loader lift cylinders. By damping the shock that occurs when a full loader bucket is used on rough terrain, it provides a comfortable ride that is not only smooth but also fast.

The optional piston-type hydraulic pump provides load sensitive hydraulic power, as much as the operator needs with precise control independently from the amount of the load and engine rpm. It works with ef ciency up to 95%. www.hidromek.com.tr

KUBOTA EXPANDS ELECTRIC RANGE

The RT105T-2 is based on the RT100-2, with an engine delivering 18.6kW compared with the 15kW of the earlier variant as well as a telescopic arm allowing a maximum height at hinge pin of 2820mm as against 2170mm. The company believes it will be an asset for customers requiring more reach, while still able to work in narrow jobsites like the RT100-2.

The RT210-2e and RT220-2e, meanwhile, are Kubota’s first electric articulated wheeled loaders. Based on the diesel-powered RT210-2 and RT220-2, the

Kubota engine is replaced by an electric system consisting of two electric motors –one to propel the machine and one working the hydraulics – plus a battery pack.

Kubota believes the RT210-2e will be of particular interest because of its lifting height, while the RT220-2e’s lifting capacity is aimed at construction and rental companies. The electric motors provide power at sites where quiet operation is at a premium, as well as having no CO2 emissions.

“The new RT105T-2 opens up the telescopic loaders segment for us and will be followed soon by another machine,” Kubota Europe product manager, Mathieu Bourson, said.

EPIROC EXPANDS V CUTTER RANGE

MANITOU’S MRT 2260 GOES ELECTRIC

Epiroc is adding new models to its V Cutter range, after it launched the V-shaped drum cutter for trenching and quarrying recently.

The company describes the V Cutter as a new way to work with rock, concrete wall and surface profiling, trenching, soft rock excavation, frozen soil excavation, and demolition.

Mounting the drums in a V-shape enables a cut with a flat base and no material is left untouched between the drums, says Stockholm-based Epiroc.

Where a regular drum cutter has to move from side to side to create an even trench, an

approach that causes extra wear on the carrier arm, the V Cutter

can reach the same result by going straight. This means the user can dig a more accurate trench much faster, says the company. The V Cutter is said to enable energy savings of up to 40%. In addition, says the company, compared to a chain cutter operators save more than 40% on picks and up to 50% on maintenance time. The investment is up to 25% lower than for a chain cutter and the lower weight makes it possible to use a smaller carrier.

Epiroc is introducing the latest addition to the V Cutter range, a smaller model suitable for carriers

Manitou is introducing the all-electric MRT 2260e battery powered 360-degree telehandler, a 6,000kg machine with a 22m boom. The lithiumion battery-powered telehandler is based on the popular MRT 2260. The 3-in-1 machine is a telescopic handler, winch and aerial work platform rolled into one, with a multitude of compatible attachments for versatility and performance on a construction site. A 360° rotation of the turret and its exceptional cab visibility allows the operator to perform operations more easily without having to move the machine. The pentagonal section of the boom allows for precise movement and stability of the machine with automatic levelling of the stabilisers. The MRT 2260e is also equipped with smart features for optimum handling and safety. www.manitou.com

Mecalac aims for mid-size machines

Mecalac is unveiling its new range of medium-sized electrically driven site equipment.

In recent years, many construction equipment manufacturers have presented electrical products to limit CO2 emissions. However, these only provide a partial answer, said Mecalac, notably because they are limited to small machines, such as 1.5tonne mini-excavators. The need for medium-sized machines on urban construction sites has not yet been met. Additionally, the small vehicles have limited autonomy – mostly between 1.5 to 4 hours – and so do not allow a full day of work before needing to recharge.

launched a zero-emission ecosystem for urban worksites that it says is the first range of medium-sized electric products.

As a result, Mecalac has

The company’s new products includes the 11tonne e12 excavator, the 1000litre es1000 swing loader and the 6tonne

ed6 site dumper. With these, all earthmoving operations (digging, loading, and transporting) can now be carried out with emissionfree machines on a larger scale then previously.

The main reason explaining the absence of medium- sized electric machines on the market is the optimisation power management to ensure sufficient autonomy. To overcome this challenge, Mecalac said it has made a technological breakthrough on the hydraulic distribution system, as well as on the energy management of auxiliary systems such as heating and air conditioning, to drastically reduce energy consumption. www.mecalac.com

On the y with Pilosio

Pilosio’s Flydeck system simpli es, speeds up and makes the assembly of suspended scaffolding and structures safer. It is a perfectly horizontal surface for which to wrap around the architectural shape of the structure to work comfortably on any construction site where suspended scaffolding is needed.

In addition, using the Flyrail beam to set up the Flydeck surface allows the work to become easy and fully safe. With this solution, it is possible to create wraparounds for columns, piles, dosserets and any other element.

since it is a modular system and can be combined with beams and scaffolding steel planks of any brand, model, shape and size.

The Flydeck surface must be anchored to the back side of the deck, such as roads, highways or railways, without blocking traf c. Also, there are no width, length or capacity limitations

BAUER GOES GREEN WITH PILING RIGS

Bauer Maschinen Group is making sustainability “a huge focus this year” as it unveils new electric and hybrid piling rigs.

Several electrically driven equipment items are being introduced, which have been designed to be completely carbonneutral. Alongside the core area of Bauer drilling rigs, duty-cycle cranes from the MC series and diaphragm wall equipment, the group is also introducing devices and equipment from subsidiaries Klemm, RTG and Bauer MAT.

Among the new developments, Bauer is launching its eBG 33, which operates CO2-free, courtesy of its large electric drive. Apart from standard drilling methods, highperformance methods, such as soil mixing and double-head drilling methods, are possible as well as being able to be used with a trench cutter. Bauer is presenting the next generation of electric drilling rigs in the top torque class. www.bauer.de

The system consists of 25cm or 45cm aluminium or steel lattice girders connected by patented pins and spring pins. The girders are installed using the Flydeck rail that guarantees, in addition to high safety, a signi cant reduction in assembly and disassembly time for each stage. Time savings can by about onethird compared to traditional systems and about one-half compared to multidirectional scaffolding systems.

The Flydeck system can be assembled by accessing it from an abutment or a column without using the by-bridge or negative surface platforms. https://pilosio.com/

PERI OPTIMISES ITS VARIOKIT VGK

Formwork solutions provider PERI is highlighting development of components for its VARIOKIT VGK that offer new application possibilities in structural and transport engineering. In addition to the use as cantilevered parapet brackets, these now enable even more flexible use of the console bracket solution.

Especially with pier heads or complex geometries, VGK can be used as lightweight work platforms for walls that slope forwards and backwards. The platforms are available in three widths for a wide range of requirements. The VARIOKIT standard components available

for rent make the system particularly economical. For short bridge superstructures up to 200m long, the VGK Cantilevered Parapet Bracket is a safe, rational and efficient solution in new construction and refurbishment projects.

Lightweight, hand-mounted system components facilitate easy operation and efficient working. The construction with separate platform and formwork unit features penetration-free decking and provides the best possible protection for the ongoing flow of traffic below.

The VGK is anchored to the underside of the bridge. As a

result, it does not disturb work operations on the upper side of the superstructure at any time. There is a high level of protection for the ongoing flow of traffic below due to the penetration-free surface. Setting up is efficient thanks to simple,

manual assembly and continuous adjustment together with a separate formwork unit.

HANGING OUT WITH PILOSIO

Pilosio’s Dynamo is a counterweighted platform trailer that can accommodate any type of scaffolding of any brand.

The standard version is 2.3m wide and 6.3m long, suitable for scaffolding pitches up to a maximum of 2.2m wide and up to 6.25m long. However, a Dynamo trailer is built according to the dimensions requested and can be customised according to the needs of the construction site and customer.

The trailer is also equipped with parking brakes on all wheels and can be towed by any vehicle on the site, even a forklift or van.

A variable counterweight is placed as needed under the chassis to set the weight of the scaffolding overhang.

Work areas can also be created below the road surface with any type of multidirectional scaffolding and pitch and, above all, with whatever geometry is needed to reach the extreme points on bridges, viaducts, and tunnels and generally any work to be served.

Schwing

There is also a Dynamo Plus hydraulic model, only on request, that uses hydraulics for stabilsation expansion transverse displacement and alignment, among other things. https://pilosio.com/

SENNEBOGEN UNVEILS ELECTRIC MODEL

Sennebogen is introducing electric machines for the crane and material handling sector.

The move towards electric power is evident in the German company’s range, with the electric 817 E materials handler able to work for six hours unplugged.

“In the recycling industry, we have companies undertaking two shifts/day, so you need to recharge,” said Sennebogen’s director of marketing, Michael Ibarth. “The concept is that, while you recharge, you

can still operate. The only limitation is that you can’t drive around; you’re more or less stationary in one spot. But in the industry, that’s often very possible, for example on a shredder or separation processing line.”

Making its debut is the 300tonne 855 G material handler: “We’ve never brought anything like this in size before. As far as we know, there’s never been anything similar,” Ibarth said. www.sennebogen.com

AUTONOMOUS ADTS

A step towards sophisticated autonomous ADT technology is now being offered by Bell Equipment. The machines can be operated remotely, using systems to ensure precise location and guidance, sensors that detect the presence of obstructions and sophisticated site control software that manage operation. The firm has ensured that its ADTs are ready for the installation of sophisticated machine control tools from a range of suppliers, while having already proven its pedestrian detection and collision avoidance packages.

According to Bell Equipment ADT product marketing manager, Brad Castle, “providing autonomous-ready machines will be a part

safety benefit

Leica Geosystems says that its new safety awareness module can reduce risks on working construction sites. The Leica ConX Safety Awareness Module forms part of the firm’s Leica ConX cloud solution. According to the company, the integration of Leica Geosystems’ safety awareness solutions with ConX increases safety on construction sites by collecting and visualising data that improves awareness, speeds up hazard response and provides better insights.

Leica Geosystems previously introduced the safety awareness solution portfolio, including Leica iCON PA10, iCON PA80 and iCON CAS, which addressed the need to warn personnel of potential machine-to-people, machine-tomachine and machine-to-object and collisions.

The new system integrates field-generated safety data into the cloud-based collaboration platform Leica ConX, allowing decision-makers to review incidents and assess an operation

of our core business in the future but in terms of sensing and guidance systems it makes sense to partner with market leaders and innovators, as we do with drivetrain, hydraulics and electronics technologies in our trucks.”

To ensure versatility, Bell provides the trucks with a standard cab with no extra hardware taking up space so that manual, remote or autonomous operation is interchangeable. “This would be useful for mining contractors, for example. Once their ADTs have finished a contract on an autonomous site, the sensory and control system could easily be removed and the truck either fitted with a new system for another

site or be used in a manual operation,” Castle explained. The company has already demonstrated its autonomous ADT system at a quarry site in Austria using one of its B45 models. “In most cases an autonomous operation will also need the end customer to set up their site to work differently; there may be special traffic control measures, berms or even different roads needed.

At this point in time Bell has an autonomous ready solution available for customers that are interested in doing proof of concept work in their application,” according to Bell Equipment’s manager, Electrical and Software, Eben Lemmer. www.bellequipment.com

over time and space. These insights support important safety initiatives by providing visualisation, analysis, monitoring, reporting and data management functions, and address communication and integration needs.

For maximum accident prevention, the new safety awareness module allows site managers to send real-time alerts to specific machine operators in case of potential incidents, such

as blasting, demolitions or storms. They can also send SOS alerts, such as evacuation orders to all machines onsite at the click of a button. System-generated alerts and user responses are saved, providing traceability and clarity. An API provides access to the safety awareness data in ConX so that it can be used in safety systems from other providers. www.leica-geosystems.com

ACCURATE MACHINE CONTROL

Trimble says that its latest technology allows soil compactors and bulldozers to operate efficiently and productively, while delivering high-quality working.

The system can actually steer the machine, with the operator only having to select forward or reverse. In dozer operation, high efficiency is claimed as the package can make significant reductions in fuel consumption, at the same time delivering high productivity.

For soil compaction duties the machine will steer accurately into position, making sure that each pass has an optimum overlap. Using the package also allows an optimum number of passes to be carried out, ensuring target values are met and without risking over compaction. www.trimble.com

TOPCON AIMS TO DIGITALLY LINK EQUIPMENT

Topcon Positioning Group is aiming to demonstrate how its systems can connect vehicles and devices from several different manufacturers as they work on a project.

“Now that the machine guidance and control technology is pretty much standard, we see a lot more adoption,” said John Downey, senior director sales, EMEA at Topcon Europe Positioning.

The company’s systems can show which machine is productive and whether a job a job is on schedule – for example, where all the haul trucks are lined up, or where more excavators are needed. “Now we can see this digitally. This is something we didn’t know in the past,” said Downey.

“Now you can get a report every hour, every day, every week, from every part of a project. Every machine becomes a sensor onsite. You can see if someone is getting behind schedule.” www.topconpositioning.com

Smart compaction

According to Hamm, the Smart Doc and Smart Compact tools are digital assistants for use in earthworks and asphalt construction.

The Smart Doc system shows in rea time how compaction develops, and links the machine data to GNSS position data. The app uses this data to create compaction reports in PDF format and is suitable for self-monitoring.

The Smart Compact compaction assistant meanwhile can further raise the quality of the compaction. It can integrate local weather

the physical and cooling properties of the asphalt.

This allows it to determine the optimal setting for each drum separately, selecting whether compaction should be carried out with vibration, with big or small amplitude, as well as having the options of oscillation or static compaction. The driver only enters which layer is to be compacted and the system can also put the roller into ECO mode and save fuel.

The power of the future

Engine rm Kohler is offering a range of power solutions to meet future needs. The company is already offering its innovative KHEM hybrid solution for use by OEMs in an array of off-highway machines. However, the company is working on other power solutions also. Kohler already offers some electric power options and will be expanding this segment with new electric motors coming soon and additional battery technology in the future.

ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEM

The new Liduro system from Liebherr is a mobile power package for onsite use. The electric power system can deliver up to 120kW for electric machines operating in urban areas or on sites where emissions need to be reduced. This fairly compact unit is the first in a range of electric power systems from Liebherr, with larger power packs being made available for use with bigger equipment in the future.

The company says that its engines for Europe and the US can run on alternative HVO fuels, while the company is working on solutions that will allow the use of hydrogen as fuel in its internal combustion engines. www.kohlerpower.com

Efficient electric driveline

Volvo Penta says that its purpose-built electric driveline will deliver a sustainable technology for industrial purposes. The firm’s Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is to reach net-zero value chain emissions by 2040, with the latest innovation for this plan being an innovative electric driveline.

The technology has been trialled as a proof of concept in a modified terminal tractor and will be available for a wider range of industrial installations.

“We take a system supplier approach which means that we can create a flexible, bespoke electric driveline solution for a specific vehicle and application,” explained Morgan Blomgren, director Strategy & Business Development. “We are very experienced in a variety of different segments, so by using that

knowledge and combining it with the Volvo Group’s proven electromobility experience, we can build the best modular platform for our customer’s applications. With that as a base, we can optimise the design and adapt the complete electric driveline system for a specific vehicle, considering the exact application, usage, climate and environment it will operate in.”
