A little library facelift Maureen Schlereth is our volunteer Manor librarian. She asked for a new cabinet so that residents could see the new book arrivals and to return recently read books. Maureen’s daughter Margie found the adorable Noah’s ark bookends. “Every time I work with the books and see the bookends, it reminds me of my great-grandson Noah,” said Maureen. u

Clara Contreras, life enrichment director, celebrates 15 years on staff
We have lots to celebrate when it comes to the commitment and dedication Clara Contreras and Robin Pike have shown to Manor of the Plains over the years. Both have reached milestone anniversaries, and we’re lucky to have them as part of our team!
“This is my quinceañera year,” Clara said. “I came to Manor of the Plains for the CNA training and was hired by my
instructor Dorothy, who was the MDS coordinator. What I enjoy most about working at MOP is the interactions with the residents. Helping and caring for my residents reminds me of how I would want someone to treat or care for my mom. I started out as a CNA and restorative aide and then accepted the Life Enrichment Director position for health services. I am thankful to have a job that allows me to work with my friends, which are also my coworkers. My residents and the staff are my extended family.” u

Robin Pike celebrates 22 years on staff. “I was working full time at a daycare and saw there was a position open for weekends at MOP,” Robin said. “I started working every weekend and loved it, so when they offered me a full-time position, I took it. I started out as a CNA in health care and took the training for a certified medication aide. I am thankful for Like us on Facebook to stay updated on news and events.

Thankful for therapists We have an amazing team of occupational and physical therapists at Aegis Therapies®, and we are thankful for all of them! Christopher De Jesus, PT, DPT, has been working with Aegis Therapies since 2016 and joined the Manor of the Plains team in September 2021. He is a certified LSVT BIG provider, practitioner of Total Motion Release (TMR) and Dophin Micropoint Stimulation. “I am married to a Filipina nurse who is currently working at Wesley Medical Center, and God provided us with three excellent/beautiful kids (one engineer, one computer tech, and the youngest is currently pursuing her dream to become a PT like me),” Christopher said. “I love travelling, I love camping, I love sports (bowling, basketball, chess, martial arts), I love education!” Kathy Fenton-Glover has been an occupational therapist in the Manor of the Plains community for more than three years. She began her health care experience in her teenage years working as a volunteer at the local nursing home. Kathy moved up to kitchen aide and nurse’s aide. It was during this time that she attended a workshop for activity directors given by an occupational therapist. Soon after, she was on the path to completing the educational training to become an occupational therapist. Kathy enjoys working with residents and helping them regain a higher level of independence. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and baking.
Julie Winkel, CPTA, isn’t new to the Aegis Therapies team. She’s been part of the staff since 1996, when she joined as staff therapist. After 10 years in that role, she was a rehab coordinator for two years and then team lead for eight years. She is currently director of rehab, a title she’s had since 2016. “My husband John and I have a farm in north central Kansas,” Julie said. “We have seven children and 14 grandchildren. We enjoy spending time with the grandchildren and sporting activities.” u

The two opened the only chiropractic/physical therapy office in western Kansas. “I am a single father of two boys ages 19 and 9,” Darrell said. “I enjoy working at Boot Hill Casino part-time as a dealer for table games. I also enjoy sports and family time at the lake.”
