The popular art class at Aberdeen Village has resumed now that residents have been able to receive COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots.
Art is resilient at Aberdeen Village It took a little while to get our art class restarted because of COVID-19, but here we are enjoying being creative together again! Our art class has become a large part of community life at Aberdeen Village, and we have several new residents who were looking forward to joining in. Now with the vaccinations and booster shots, there’s no stopping the arts here at Aberdeen Village. Everyone is thankful for the renewed chance to create and be imaginative again. u
With the end of the year rapidly approaching, it’s a great time to check one more thing off your list — make sure your wishes are respected and your family is protected by completing our Assignment of Amounts Due Resident Form (or reviewing your current Assignment form to make sure it is still correct). If you pass away while a resident of a PMMA® Community, this form will permit you to assign all refunds due to you to the persons specified in your form. Completing the Assignment form is simple, and if you pass away while a resident of the Community, it can save your family significant time, money and frustration when receiving a refund of any amounts due to you from your PMMA Community. In other words, it can simplify the refund process and avoid the time and cost of estate administration. This form works like a “beneficiary designation” in that it is effective upon your passing and permits you to designate who will receive all amounts due to you from your PMMA Community (for example, any refunds of your entrance fee deposit or monthly fees). Your Assignment form is revocable and can be changed at any time, so you are not locked if your circumstances change.

Tradition carries the torch of Christmas spirit The Christmas season is one of the most special times of the year. For Aberdeen Village residents, it’s a great opportunity to pause and reflect on those special moments from Christmases past.
Tell us about your favorite Christmas ornament or decoration and why it is special to you. “Santa flying an airplane. (It’s) a gift my kids gave to their dad, who was a pilot in the Air Force.”
This season is rich with celebrations and traditions, and our residents took time to reflect on their favorite traditions and things that are special to them.
Judy Salts Tell us about your favorite Christmas ornament or decoration and why it
is special to you. “My mother was born in 1912. She was a twin and had these two beautiful ornaments of little angels on a puff of cotton like a cloud with tinsel over each of them. Growing up, we always had them on our tree. When I got married, my mother gave them to me and I have always put them on our tree.” u
Alice Erwin What is your favorite Christmas tradition? “Having all our family together to tell how it was in the good old days.” Tell us about your favorite Christmas ornament or decoration and why it is special to you. “I treasure the Nativity set my sister made.”
Judy Salts holds the twin angel ornaments that always adorned her family Christmas tree growing up. Judy’s mom was a twin.
Sharon Nelson What is your favorite Christmas tradition? “My favorite Christmas tradition is having all of our family together. Before we open our gifts, one of the family reads the story of the birth of Jesus from the Bible.” Aileen Moise What is your favorite Christmas tradition? “Christmas Eve candlelight service and hearing the Christmas story. Christmas day, dinner and exchanging gifts with family.”

Christmas celebrations around the world As we celebrate Christmas this season, we have so many traditions that make the holiday season special for us. Around the world there are many unique traditions that are interesting to learn about.
The Philippines Every December, the Giant Lantern Festival is held in San Fernando in the Philippines. Light is very symbolic for Filipinos. The star is a sign of hope and the most important symbol of the Christmas season. Giant lights are formed into kaleidoscopic images for everyone to see. It’s a beautiful festival that symbolizes love and hope through the holiday season.
in your home. The log is carried inside on Christmas Eve, then sprinkled with red wine so that it smells good. Celebrants leave out food and drinks, and the log and candles are meant to burn all night as a welcoming sign for Mary and baby Jesus.
Ireland Christmas in Ireland is very similar to the U.S., but they do have one tradition that we do not. In Ireland, an old tradition says to leave a tall candle on the sill of the largest window of the house. The candle is lit after sunset on Christmas Eve and is supposed to burn all night long. It represents a welcoming light for Mary and Joseph.
Germany Christmas is very popular in Germany, and there are many traditions throughout the country. One of the most popular is St. Nicholas Day. Every year on the evening of Dec. 5, children prepare for the arrival of St. Nicholas by cleaning their boots and leaving them outside their bedroom door. In the morning, they find they have been filled with nuts, candy and small gifts. u
Iceland Instead of Santa, Icelandic children are visited by the Yule Lads. The Yule Lads are 13 men who visit children on the 13 nights that lead up to Christmas. Each night, kids leave their shoes on their windowsill. If they were good, the Yule Lads will leave candy, but if they were bad, the Yule Lads will leave rotting potatoes.
