Parsons Middle School Students Work To Brighten The Halls of Parsons Presbyterian Manor If you think basement halls are dark, drab places, you haven’t been to the basement of Parsons Presbyterian Manor. There, the hallways are colorfully decorated with the creations of Parsons Middle School Fine Arts students. They started painting murals on the walls during last school year. “We hope to continue to add to it every year,” said Kelsey Fabrycki, Parsons Middle School Fine Arts Teacher. “We hope to use our artwork to brighten the halls and the lives at Presbyterian Manor.” The 7th and 8th graders are currently working on two murals – one is a classic car driving down a country road and the other is a German Shepherd in sunflowers. “The students brainstorm ideas that they hope the residents and staff will enjoy,” said Fabrycki. The students will keep adding murals and once the walls are full she says they’ll keep adding to existing murals. The residents and staff at Parsons Presbyterian Manor are loving the colorful art. “These students are making a difference,” says Crystal Packard, Executive Director. “We love watching their ideas come to life and it’s fun to stop and admire their creations as we go about our days.” u

Tips for staying safe during summer heat Summer is here and so is the heat. Not only do rising temperatures make life uncomfortable, they can also be life threatening. To help keep you and your loved ones safe this season, the Center for Disease Control reminds you to stay cool, stay hydrated and stay informed. Stay cool • Wear loose-fitting lightweight clothing • Stay within an air-conditioned environment as much as possible • Limit outdoor activities to when it is the coolest • Cut down on strenuous outdoor exercise • Wear sunscreen— sunburns affect your body’s ability to cool down and can make you dehydrated • Avoid hot and heavy meals Stay hydrated • Drink plenty of fluids—don’t wait until you’re thirsty (if your doctor limits how much you drink, be sure to check first) • Stay away from sugary or alcoholic beverages • Replace salt and lost minerals with sport drinks (if you are a low-salt diet, check with your doctor before taking any supplements) • Provide plenty of water for your pets Stay informed • Check your local news or weather app for extreme heat alerts • Learn the signs and symptoms of heatrelated illness • Keep an eye on those at risk—infants, those dealing with a chronic illness and overweight individuals u
