Ardythe Goodrow settles in After becoming sick late last fall, Ardythe Goodrow’s doctor recommended that it was time to begin looking for a new place to live—three weeks later she moved into independent living at Manor of the Plains.

“I had been looking at Manor of the Plains for some time and had visited with residents who had been here, so it wasn’t all new to me,” said Ardythe. Ardythe also found that the process of moving during a pandemic wasn’t all that difficult either. “I had to be quarantined for seven days, but technically I had already been under quarantine since March,” said Ardythe.

Now out of quarantine, Ardythe is enjoying the change in scenery and the perks that come with her new surroundings. “I have my own apartment and it’s nice,” said Ardythe. “I can get outside if I want—I have a little patio—but I’m not too active right now. I’m 92 so I’m no spring chicken.” An avid reader, Ardythe is taking full advantage of the community’s library. When she doesn’t have her nose buried in a book, you can probably find her watching college sports on TV. “My daughter gets me the KU and K-State schedules, so I watch them quite a bit—basketball especially,” said Ardythe.

Introducing Arianda Cervantes In November, Manor of the Plains welcomed Arianda Cervantes to its staff as both its new life enrichment assistant and a CMA in Assisted Living. Prior to joining the community, Arianda worked at another senior living community in the area and chose to join Manor of the Plains because of the quality of its staff and the atmosphere created by its leadership. “There is just more diversity here and the staff is more of a team,” said Arianda. “Manor of the Plains is a family-based community, they hear you out and help.” Currently in her third month at the community, Arianda has settled in and feels like she is now just another respected member of the team. “The people are very friendly and they just make you feel like you’re valued,” said Arianda. Coming to the community in the middle of the country’s worst pandemic in over a century hasn’t been without its challenges, but Arianda is doing her best to keep those challenges from impacting the residents she serves.

“I miss families being able to visit the residents,” said Arianda. “With everything shut down, you just try to make the best out of it for the residents.”
Away from work, Arianda enjoys spending time with her six-month-old son; her boyfriend, Gary and their wienie dog, Coco. u

Art is Ageless® call for entries underway at Manor of the Plains Manor of the Plains is seeking artists age 65 and older for is annual juried art exhibit and competition March 11 – 17, 2021. Entries of artistic works will be accepted from any area artist who is 65 years of age or older to exhibit and/or compete for an opportunity to be featured in the 2022 Art is Ageless calendar. The exhibit will continue the 40th anniversary of the Art is Ageless program, which produced it’s first calendar in 1981. The exhibit is slated to be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily March 11 – 17 at Manor of the Plains, 200 Campus Drive, and celebrate the artists during a reception from 3 – 5 p.m. March 18. Plans remain flexible due to COVID-19.
Artists may choose to enter works for exhibit only. For the competition, works are to have been completed in the past five years (since January 2016). There are nine categories, as well as designations of amateur or professional. Works to be entered for judging need to be at Manor of the
Plains by 5 p.m. March 5. Please contact Lisa Montoya to arrange to drop off pieces for the exhibit by calling 620-225-1928. The Art is Ageless® program encourages Manor of the Plains residents and other area seniors to express their creativity through its annual competition, as well as art classes, musical and dramatic events, educational opportunities and current events discussions throughout the year. Manor of the Plains is a PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America) community. Local competition winners will join winners from 14 other PMMA communities to be judged at the systemwide level. As part of Manor of the Plains’ ongoing customer service initiative, residents and their representatives are randomly selected to participate in telephone satisfaction surveys conducted by Pinnacle Quality Insight. The graphic at right highlights some of the survey results. All scores are given on a 5-point scale, with 5 being the highest score and 1 the lowest score. Between October 2019 and September 2020, Manor of the Plains residents and their families gave the community high scores

in demonstrating dignity and respect, cleanliness, ease of the admission process and professional therapy services. We greatly value the opinions of our residents and their representatives
