Five local artists among Art is Ageless® masterpiece level winners Five winning artists in Lawrence Presbyterian Manor’s annual Art is Ageless® juried competition will be featured in the 2024 Art is Ageless calendar produced by PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America®). “Toby Keith,” a Drawing entry by John Boyer, and “Goose Parade,” a Mixed Media/Crafts entry by Donna Russell, will appear in the calendar when it is released this fall. Works by local winners are automatically entered into a masterpiece level competition with winning art from 14 other PMMA® communities. More than 190 entries were received for this year’s masterpiece competition. “Iris in Mexican Vase,” a Painting entry by Barbara Hall, “Descent,” a Mixed Media/Crafts entry by Marsha Poholsky, and “Arkansas Autumn,” a Painting “Toby Keith,” by John Boyer entry by Jewell Willhite, will be featured on the pull-out postcards included in the 2024 calendar.

Zumba instructor brings all the moves to her role as life enrichment assistant!
Rouba Sawaf spent six years at Aberdeen Village in Olathe before recently bringing her passion for exercise to Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. “My son enrolled at KU, so I moved to Lawrence to be closer to him,” she explained. That’s good news for residents, as Rouba’s chair Zumba classes have been packed since she started them last year. “It’s great for upper body, but we also get our legs involved,” she said. “We typically have about 20 residents in any given class.” The Zumba classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while she also teaches a dumbbell class every other Friday. Rouba is a certified Zumba instructor, having taught at Genesis Health for a number of years, as well as other fitness centers. u
