Chaplains learning and team-building SEPTEMBER 2022
Living life on the edge Our residents were looking for a little excitement, so we decided to have a fun and friendly ax throwing competition.
For the first time, chaplains from across our PMMA communities gathered together in August for learning, and team-building. The chaplains came to Wichita to participate in the Global Leadership Summit, a worldwide event simulcast out of Chicago, that focused not only on leadership but on personal growth as well. “The variety of teachers used the accomplishments in their lives to inspire and motivate each of us to continue to develop in our own lives,” said Wichita Presbyterian Manor Chaplain Greg Spring. “Together our chaplains learned, were inspired and motivated.”
That’s right – we wanted to join in on the news craze of ax throwing. The Canadian pastime has been growing in popularity in the U.S. over the last few years, as a popular activity for birthday parties, other celebrations, even team building.

But don’t worry – our axes were made of plastic! Our Health Care residents learned a lot, honed their skills, and really had a great time. u

Let’s throw a Pizza Party Forget delivery - our residents became budding chefs, trying their hand at making pizza. With just a handful of ingredients it’s easy to make your own mini-pizza. All you need is a bagel, marinara sauce, pepperoni (or any other topping you like) and of course, CHEESE! These creations were quick and easy - and delicious. We’re thankful for our creative culinary experts who are always ready to try new things. u Charles looks like a perfectionist.

Painting the universe There has been a great deal of excitement around the first photos from the revolutionary James Webb Space Telescope which can gather light and images from farther away than ever before. Sylvia wants her colors just right for her galaxy.
Here at Aberdeen Heights, our resident artists found inspiration in those images to paint their own versions of the universe. Our Memory Care residents traveled through time and space - and their imaginations - to create wonderful interpretations of galaxies, stars, and nebulas. u

Chaplains– continued from page 1 Chaplain Rev. Dinah Dutta agrees. “I was reassured, and uplifted by the talks, and blessed to meet the other chaplains,” she said. The chaplains did spend some time away from the summit for meals and a group activity. PMMA CEO Bruce Shogren joined the chaplains, offering uplifting words about the importance of the chaplains’ work in each of our PMMA communities, which underscores service guided by Christian values.
Rev. Dutta appreciated how the chaplains encouraged each other “to love one another, respect, and be part of our mission.” The chaplains left the conference with a lot to think about and plenty of ideas to take back to their communities. “I took pages of notes that I will be reviewing and applying where needed,” said Chaplain Spring, sharing that he already has plenty of thoughts to share with the rest of the leadership team at Wichita Presbyterian Manor during the devotional at their daily meeting. “Leadership is about
building relationships,” said Rev. Dutta as she recapped what she took away from the summit. “Caring for residents or employees, and treating them as a family is the key to leadership.” The chaplains say they were grateful for the opportunity to keep growing. “On behalf of all our Chaplains, I would like to thank PMMA for investing in our lives and careers by making the Global Leadership Summit a Networking opportunity,” said Chaplain Spring. u

Aberdeen Heights shares customer service survey responses Aberdeen Heights continues to seek customer feedback through monthly telephone surveys. Each month, residents and their representatives are randomly selected to participate in telephone satisfaction surveys conducted by Pinnacle Quality Insight. The graphic highlights some of the survey results. All scores are given on a 5-point scale, with 5 being the highest score and 1 the lowest score. Between July 2021 and June 2022, Aberdeen Heights residents and their families gave the community high scores in demonstrating dignity and respect, cleanliness, and the admission process. Residents and their representatives also indicated a high likelihood they would
