TELEVISION HIGHLIGHTS New for children, Elinor Wonders Why is an animated series for preschoolers that aims to encourage children to follow their curiosity, ask questions when they don’t understand, and find answers using science inquiry skills. Weekdays at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm, beginning September 7 Fever—The Music of Peggy Lee explores the life and songs of the music legend through vintage interviews and performances and includes commentary by k.d. lang, Quincy Jones, Andy Williams, Nancy Sinatra, and more. September 1 at 7 pm and September 6 at 7 pm The Avett Brothers at Red Rocks is a magical night of music in this stunning natural setting. The band performs an energetic mix of bluegrass, country, pop melodies, folk, indie rock, honky-tonk, and ragtime before a sold-out crowd. Friday, September 4, at 7:30 pm Back for a new season is Art in the Twenty-First Century—providing unparalleled access to the most innovative artists of our time, revealing how artists engage the culture around them, and showing viewers the world in new ways. Three Fridays beginning September 18 at 9 pm Frontline’s critically acclaimed election-year series The Choice investigates what has shaped the two major party presidential candidates and why they’d take on one of the most high-stakes jobs in the world. Tuesday, September 22, at 8 pm; encores on October 27 and November 2 Celebrate the genius of Ken Burns on Sunday, September 27. At noon, revisit The Civil War with a retrospective; at 2 pm, explore The National Parks; and at 4 pm, learn about the making of Country Music. Prairie Public’s comprehensive local coverage of the 2020 election includes television, radio, and online debates between the ND gubernatorial and house candidates, the ND Superintendent of Public Instruction candidates, and the MN 7th District candidates. Our radio news team will add ongoing reports, and all the ND candidates have been invited to participate in radio interviews on Main Street.

Director of radio Bill Thomas is moderating a ND Humanities Council project—book discussions titled One Book One North Dakota. Once a month for nine months, we’ll broadcast those discussions.

Add Your Story Moving Lives Minnesota: Stories of Origin & Immigration is a television and online project that explores the histories of the many communities who have moved through and to Minnesota. The project, a partnership of all the public television stations that serve Minnesota, brings people from our entire region together to recognize and honor our similar and different backgrounds and experiences—to build empathy and understanding across our communities.
