TELEVISION HIGHLIGHTS American Masters Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road reminisces with the Beach Boys’ lead singer-bassist-producer and his longtime friend and Rolling Stone editor, Jason Fine. The documentary features interviews with Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Nick Jonas, Linda Perry, Jim James, Gustavo Dudamel, and Al Jardine. Tuesday, June 14, at 8 pm The glamorous six-part Hotel Portofino is a historical family drama set in 1920s Italy— when Benito Mussolini’s brand of fascism was on the rise. Boasting a great cast and fabulous locations, the series is “full of emotional highs and lows, with a classic ‘whodunit’ mystery woven throughout and building to a dramatic climax.” Sundays at 7 pm beginning June 19 Jon Stewart: The Mark Twain Prize celebrates the comedian, talk show host, and political influencer’s award for lifetime achievement in comedy. Widely considered to be the nation’s highest recognition for humorists, the prize honors an artist each year who has unquestionably shaped the world of comedy. Tuesday, June 21, at 8 pm Hiding in Plain Sight: Youth Mental Illness, a four-hour series from Ken Burns, follows the journeys of young people living with mental health conditions with a focus on awareness and compassion. The series shines a light on their lives as well as the lives of their parents, teachers, friends, and healthcare providers. June 27 & 28 at 8 pm
LOOKING TOWARD JULY America Outdoors, a new six-part series hosted by bestselling author Baratunde Thurston, introduces us to a vivid cast of characters—from wilderness pilots flying “below the rim” in Idaho to coal miners turned beekeepers in Appalachia to surfers catching waves in Los Angeles. Tuesdays at 8 pm beginning July 5 In the fascinating new five-part series Green Planet, host Sir David Attenborough shows us how plants are as aggressive, competitive, and dramatic as animals— locked in life-and-death struggles for food and light, taking part in fierce battles for territory, and desperately trying to reproduce and scatter their young. Music Discovery Each Weekday Into the Music: Style on Your Dial Take an excursion into music that spans eras and genres with Prairie Public’s own Mike Olson. He spins roots, rock, and jazz like no other and fills us in on the history behind the music and the artists—when he hosts Into The Music on weekdays 9-10 am and noon-3 pm or 6 pm.

World Café: Essential and Emerging Artists The show has been giving audiences an upclose view of the music process for three decades, and to commemorate the 30-year milestone, World Café has curated playlists from its archives—a playlist for each of those years. New in the Podcast Library Davey Bee’s Hit Song Vault is a thirty-minute comedic and encyclopedic conversation about the “music of our lives” with Davey Bee and his son John David. You may remember North Dakota Rock Country Hall of Famer Davey Bee, who formed his band “Davey Bee and the Sonics” in Bismarck before relocating to Minot. There, he became a local radio and television personality, as well as the owner of Davey Bee’s Guitar City, later Beehive Music LTD in Fargo. RAISING LIFELONG LEARNERS Summer is a great time to try hands-on learning activities that will help your child appreciate nature. Try these fun, “green” ideas from Cyberchase—with more details and suggested PBS Kids program episodes to reinforce the learning at pbs.org/parents. • Learn about pollinators, then invite them to your neighborhood. Play the “Catch Ya Later Pollinator Game.”
• Introduce your child to composting using your food scraps to help the soil and plants around you. Watch Cyberchase episode Composting in a Clutch. • Grow your own food from a seed using recycled containers already at your home. Watch the Cyberchase episode A Seedy Business.
• Explore the concept of “food miles” by figuring out what’s local and in season. Use math skills to practice adding up food miles with “Digit’s Menu Builder” card game.
• Nuture your child’s interest in animals by learning more about migration and check out the “Duck Dash” game to learn more about the challenges facing birds.

THE MOTH RADIO HOUR
gets its name from the moths that were attracted to the light on the porch where the show’s founder and his friends would gather to spin tales. Today, The Moth Radio Hour is a weekly radio series and podcast featuring true stories told live on stage without scripts, notes, or props. Each show mixes humorous, sometimes heartbreaking, and often poignant tales that surprise and delight with their honesty, bravery, and humor. The Moth Radio Hour airs on Sundays at 2 pm on FM1 and FM3, or listen online anytime.
