▲ The Civilian Conservation Corps was born from the desperate need of a country in the grips of the Great Depression. Built To Last: The Legacy of the CCC in Minnesota tours some of the most beloved projects in the state and recalls those workers who lived in tents, carved trails, built roads, fought forest fires, planted trees, created erosion control systems, stocked lakes, preserved historic structures, and built iconic permanent park structures that we still enjoy today.

Chronicling Hopes and Dreams
Native American Stories of Resilience offers intriguing glimpses into Native American culture, philosophy, and psychology. The Native American Development Center is recording 30 narratives from Native Americans who live in the Bismarck Mandan metropolitan area. Excerpts will air this fall on Main Street, Morning Edition, and All Things Considered, and the full narratives will be available as audio and text online. This project is made possible with grant funding provided to the Native American Development Center from the ND Humanities Council and the Consensus Council.
Re-imagining Significant Places
Rail Town Memories pays homage to the towns that dried up along the North Dakota passenger rail lines when trains transitioned to freight in the 1970s. Prairie Public is partnering with the national Place and Memory Project to re-imagine these places. On the web, we’ll map a landscape, creating an ongoing opportunity for listeners to continue their connection with the project, adding more memories, and exploring others’ stories. Listen for the segments on your radio, too. Funding for Rail Town Memories is provided by BNSF Foundation and the Humanities Council.
