Coming this fall: A new documentary in Prairie Public’s “Germans from Russia” series South America is a spacious land extending from tropical, equatorial forests to frozen tundra. Like North America before the turn of the 1900s, it was also a land of opportunity—a magnet of immigration from Europe and Asia. Some migrants came seeking gold and power, some sought asylum, still others were looking for homes where they might find peace and sustenance after turbulent times in their former countries. Many were Germans from Russia. Tune in this fall for We (Never) Don’t Forget: South American Germans from Russia. The documentary, the eighth in Prairie Public’s Germans from Russia collection, gets to know these South Americans, many of whom are directly related to our Germans from Russia here in the United States and Canada—Black Sea Germans, Volga Germans, Volhynian Germans, Bessarabian Germans, and Mennonites.
