We’re using the power of media to spark children’s curiosity The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and PBS has announced awards to 21 public television stations, including Prairie Public, for the expansion of school readiness projects. Prairie Public will focus efforts on young children and their parents, teachers, and caregivers living in the five-county Northeast Education Services Cooperative region of North Dakota. The project will provide training in the integration of Ready To Learn resources in classroom lesson planning and in everyday activities—engaging children with familiar content that reinforces the learning experience from school to after school and during summer break.

Ken Burns’ new seven-part documentary weaves the stories of Theodore, Franklin, and Eleanor Roosevelt, three members of one of the most prominent and influential families in American politics. The 14-hour series follows the family’s story for more than a century, from Theodore’s birth in 1858 to Eleanor’s death in 1962. The series encompasses all the history the Roosevelts helped to make—the creation of National Parks and the digging of the Panama Canal, the New Deal and the defeat of Hitler, and the postwar struggles for civil rights at home and human rights around the world in which Eleanor Roosevelt played a central role.
