Prairie Public assesses Minot flood mitigation The June 2011 flood in Minot, North Dakota, devastated nearly half the city’s homes. Could the disaster have been avoided? And what is being done to assure it doesn’t happen again? Minot: Rebuilding Dreams chronicles Minot’s recovery and mitigation efforts to present a portrait of a city on the road to recovery. The onehour documentary premieres Wednesday, June 12, at 8:00 p.m. (CT). Immediately following the documentary, at 9:00 p.m. (CT), Prairie Public news director Dave Thompson will lead a discussion of the issues from Prairie Public’s Fargo television studio.

Mr. Bubble’s story is North Dakota’s story Harold Schafer (1912-2001) is one of the most remarkable figures in North Dakota history—he had a brilliant career in business and was perhaps the greatest philanthropist North Dakota has ever produced. Schafer began his career as a traveling salesman, and went on to create the Gold Seal Company and to market his signature products—Glass Wax, Snowy Bleach, and Mr. Bubble—throughout the United States and beyond. He devoted his life to helping others, and by the time of his death in 2001 he had given away his immense fortune and made Medora North Dakota’s number one tourist destination. New project investigates bullying Stand Up: How to Stop Bullying is Prairie Public’s new multimedia radio project to raise awareness about bullying and to explore how bullying is being addressed in North Dakota schools. What do a sad elephant, a pink zebra, a family of hamsters, and a duck with a dream have in common? They are the subjects of the four stories that have received first-place honors in the local PBS Kids Go! Writers Contest. Prairie Public hosts the writing contest, which encourages, rewards, and challenges children to create stories with their own words and illustrations. Every child who entered received a participation certificate and personalized, positive feedback from contest evaluators.
