Rising Stars Clinch First PGA TOUR Cards BRANDON MATTHEWS
Three years ago, Brandon Matthews suffered the worst slump of his golf life. He made just one cut in his final 18 starts of the 2019 Korn Ferry Tour season, finishing well outside the top-100 on the Points List and bringing an uncertain fate. For the first time since he was a kid, he wondered if professional golf was a viable career option. But the native of Scranton, Pennsylvania – a self-described “golf sicko” – has never wanted to do anything else job-wise, and his love for the game carried him through. He returned to his hometown and dug it out of the dirt with instructor Dale Gray; the left side of the range tee at CC of Scranton “was a divot.” Matthews returned to PGA TOUR Latinoamerica, on which he won the 2020-21 Order of Merit to earn full Korn Ferry Tour status. The momentum has continued throughout the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season; a runner-up at The Panama Championship in February was followed by a victory at the following week’s Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard in Bogota, moving him to the verge of securing a spot in The 25. With a final-round 67 at the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX, Matthews has crossed the fail-safe threshold of 875 points to secure his first PGA TOUR card for the 2022-23 season. The Temple alum and avid Dave Matthews Band fan, one of the longest hitters in professional golf, will put his talents to the test on golf’s biggest stage next season. “It’s pretty amazing,” said Matthews after punctuating his #TOURBound moment with a birdie on the 72nd hole in the South Carolina Upstate. “Obviously it’s been a lifetime dream of mine since I was a little kid. It’s amazing that I’m in the moment that it’s true now.” After crossing the threshold to secure his first TOUR card, Matthews is pleased but not satisfied. Following a made cut at the U.S. Open, Matthews returns to the Korn Ferry Tour with the aim of improving his spot on The 25 as much as possible.“There’s a lot of work to still be done,” Matthews said. “Everybody knows that the No. 1 spot means a lot. Hopefully we can continue to trend in the right direction … I think I’ve found a little something the last few weeks. Ben Griffin’s grandpa was an avid golf fan, always monitoring scores across tours in local papers. Douglas Griffin lived in Hickory, North Carolina, the hometown of veteran PGA TOUR pro J.T. Poston. “He was like, ‘I love following J.T. Poston,’” remembered Griffin. “’But I want to see more Ben Griffin.’” Douglas Griffin passed away last July, with one line in his obituary reading, “Hit them long and straight.” At the time, Griffin was working as a mortgage loan officer. That line struck him and was part of a series of occurrences that inspired him to pursue professional golf once again. A few days after his grandpa passed away, Griffin flew to North Carolina to Missouri to compete in the Monday qualifier for the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper – motivated to continue to pursuit of his childhood dreams, and with the support of Highland Springs CC members whom he had previously befriended. He successfully qualified with a 6-under 65, and although he missed the cut that week, the fire returned. Griffin carried the momentum into that fall’s Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament, successfully advancing through First, Second and Final Stages to earn guaranteed starts in 2022. He hasn’t looked back. With a runner-up finish at the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD Synnex, Griffin has crossed the fail-safe threshold of 875 points to secure his first PGA TOUR card via The 25 upon the conclusion of the Regular Season at the Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna in August. It marks the fulfillment of a lifelong goal that began when Griffin was a youngster in North Carolina, born into a golf-loving family. The 26-year-old fondly recalls memories of playing with his dad and grandpa at age 6 or 7. He remembers the first time he defeated his dad for 18 holes, carding 72 to his dad’s 75 in Myrtle Beach when he was 12. He lists his dad and grandpa as part of his dream foursome. When asked to recall memorable golf moments, he thinks to his first TOUR-sanctioned title at the 2018 Staal Foundation Open on PGA TOUR Canada, when his dad flew from North Carolina to Minneapolis and rented a car, driving 8 hours to Thunder Bay, Ontario to offer victory congratulations in-person. Cowan Griffin once again surprised his son for the final round of the BMW Charity Pro-Am, where a top-nine finish would be enough to cross the fail-safe #TOURBound threshold. Griffin began Sunday in second place and carded 5-under 66 at Thornblade Club, enough for a playoff with Robby Shelton. Shelton won with a par on the second playoff hole, but Griffin and several family members and friends were able to rejoice nonetheless. Plenty of goals and dreams remain, but one is for sure. Griffin has secured a PGA TOUR card for the 2022-23 season. “Just really going back to what my dad always taught me, having a positive attitude and doing my best,” reflected Griffin of a key to recent success. “Really processing my thoughts and trying to get negativity and fear out of there … and replacing that with more courage and more belief, is really the key.” Next season, he’ll channel that mentality at the highest level. PGA TOUR’s Korn Ferry Tour Returns to Berthoud, CO

TPC Colorado’s
par-72, 7,991-yard golf course was designed by Arthur Schaupeter Golf Course Architects and is the only PGA TOUR-managed golf course in Colorado. The 18-hole golf course is located in northwest Berthoud and was built around the natural landscape of three reservoirs: Lonetree, McNeil and Welch. The total development covers 865 acres with a portion of the property dedicated to the Heron Lakes Community and over 130 acres of permanent open space dedicated to the preservation of natural lands and native wildlife. TPC Colorado features the longest hole for any PGA TOUR event, hole no. 13 named “Longer Still” sitting at 773-yards and features a legendary “Hell Bunker” that is 108 yards in length. The full course offers a range of short and long holes played from elevated ridges with panoramic views of Longs Peak, Mount Meeker and the entire Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The course is designed after the oldest style of golf courses, Scottish Links, with stacked sod pot bunkers and fescue-lined fairways alongside the sandy soiled shoreline of the large reservoirs. recreational golfers, the seven sets of tees allow the golfer multiple options of play to their own strength and desires at any length. Upholding the PGA TOUR’s commitment to environmental excellence and sustainability of its golf courses, TPC Colorado has joined the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program and is committed to operational plans that practice mindful environmental management. Audubon International is a prestigious program that recognizes golf courses that uphold the highest standards to protect the natural environment and heritage of their course. Our property is home to one of the largest Great Blue Heron rookeries in the state of Colorado, and in an effort to protect the natural habitat of these birds and all wildlife, the agronomy team has planted hundreds of acres of milkweed, native grasses and plants, built bird boxes, installed water diffusers for natural algae reduction and other measures to reduce the use of chemicals and actions to conserve the amount of water used in course maintenance. The PGA’s Rising Stars Set to Compete at The Ascendant presented by Blue By John Lehndorff For three years, the PGA tournament in Berthoud has been Colorado’s little secret. Spectators have been wowed by the brilliant golf played by young unknowns like Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris before they ascended to PGA stardom, The Masters and the U.S. Open. “Scotty Scheffler played here in 2019 and is now the world’s No. 1 golfer. Guests expect to see the next generation of golf stars,” says Drew Blass, Tournament Director for The 14 THE ASCENDANT PRESENTED BY BLUE

The PGA TOUR event June 27 to July 3 at the TPC Colorado course in Berthoud was ranked Tournament of the Year in 2021 on the 26-event Korn Ferry tour where more than 80 percent PGA TOUR players get their start. Formerly known as the TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes, the tournament has a fresh name in its fourth year. “We just signed a 5-year naming deal with Ascendent National Title and Blue Federal Credit Union,” Blass says. Already praised as one of the best golf tournament experiences for spectators, The Ascendent has upgraded amenities for the 30,000 guests who will visit the 200-acre site for the week’s festivities. “We’ve added a lot more opportunities for people to watch golf comfortably out of the sun. We’re
excited about the Center Stage pavilion at the 16th hole. It’s tented so everyone can watch the play on this signature hole seated in the shade. We also added a new pavilion at the first tee. There are new food options from A Spice of Life Catering and beverage partners like Proximo Sprits and New Belgium,” he says. TPC Colorado’s 7991-yard course with panoramic views of Longs Peak, Mount Meeker and the Front Range includes the signature 13th hole. At 773 yards, it’s the longest par five hole at any PGA event. “One thing we provide that a lot of tournaments don’t is parking for everyone on-site. In addition, the City of Berthoud provides a free shuttle service around the outside of the course so you can hop off and see the play at various holes,” Blass says. It has become a tournament tradition for families to bring their kids because of the roster of fun activities for various ages. Especially popular are the giant Legos and the Visit Loveland Cool Zone igloo near hole No. 3. “The Junior Golf Clinic presented by CityWide Banks provides opportunities for kids to build their skills including putting greens. back. Some of these guys text with the family they’ve stayed with before. Some have stayed in the same place for three or four years. It’s pretty incredible,” Blass says. Kids 15 and under get in free with a ticketed adult. Earlier this season, Yuan earned his first Korn Ferry Tour title at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by MISTRAS; he has also recorded a T2 at The Panama Championship and T3 at The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay. He’ll receive his card upon the conclusion of the Korn Ferry Tour Regular Seasonending Pinnacle Bank Championship presented by Aetna in August.
A 33-year-old veteran who posted four top10s, including his first Korn Ferry Tour victory. The 2020-21 combined season saw him finish No. 44 in the regular season points standings with only 19 made cuts. Here in 2021 he held a share of the 54-hole lead, but fell off pace with a final-round 1-under 71 and finished T4 with a 15-under 273. He returns to TPC Colorado on the brink of securing his first PGA TOUR card.

Defending champion Tag Ridings proved last year he could still drive it as long as anyone half his age on the Korn Ferry Tour. The 47-year-old has yet to record a top-10 this season, but last year’s victory at The Ascendant presented by Blue also came out of nowhere.
At just 23 years old Kevin Yu is one to watch. At last year’s event, a bogey on the 72nd hole dropped him into a playoff with Tag Ridings and David Skinns. This year, at the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation, he held the outright 54-hole lead after he carded the lowest score of the third round, a 5-under 67, but only made two birdies in the final round and missed an 11-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole which would have forced a playoff with Brent Grant.

By the time the golfers on
the annual Korn Ferry Tour make it to their tournament at the picturesque TPC Colorado course in Berthoud from June 30 to July 3, the true scope of their achievements will be clear. Golfers on the prestigious developmental tour have been competing since January for a coveted prize: a spot on the PGA TOUR. When the event kicked off in January with the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay, the dozens of golfers were all on an equal footing when it came to that goal. When the 156 golfers tee off atThe Ascendant presented by Blue in Berthoud this week, their standings will reflect months’ worth of hard work dogged competition. By the time golfers finish the TPC Colorado course’s 36 holes, the 50 players who will ultimately win cards on PGA TOUR will have a much better idea of their status. “At this point, as the players are getting to Colorado, you will start to see the competitors earn enough points to get their PGA TOUR card,” said Brendan Von Doehren, vice president of the PGA TOUR. “If you a player was at the top at the 24 THE ASCENDANT PRESENTED BY BLUE
third stop of the tour in February, it didn’t necessarily mean that they were going to get a TOUR card. “There’s been a jockeying among these players for months now,” he added. “There’s a sense of achievement, drama. It adds it all. Not only are you going to have your winner of the TPC tournament, but you’re going to have a number of people who lock up their card.” The stakes are indeed high for this stop on a tour that draws some of the best golfers in the world for a spot in one of the sport’s most elite competitions. It’s a reward that goes far beyond the $750,000 purse, and one that offers prestige to one of the state’s most impressive courses, a world-class, ground-up Tournament Players Club development that opened in 2018. Only a year later, the TPC Colorado course began hosting Colorado’s first PGA TOUR event since 2006, and the young tradition has persisted through the challenges of a global pandemic. Since the Korn Ferry Tour
first began in Colorado, the TPC competition has gained a status and reputation as a signature stop on a high-profile tour. “We’re really looking forward to having this tournament be bigger and better than ever. They’ve slowly built it out from its first few years, and we’ve received more and more support from our sponsors,” Von Doehren said. “TPC is a new property; it’s a modern golf course. It’s big, and it’s long. When we first came there, our players loved it. The views are great, the conditioning is always great, along with the clubhouse and amenities. That degree of quality guided the design, construction and launch of TPC Colorado from the beginning. Having the chance to host world-class golfers looking to secure a spot on the PGA TOUR has helped increase the visibility and reputation of the young course – the competition at the Colorado course earned numerous awards, including Product of the Year in 2019, Tournament of the Year in 2021 and Volunteer of the Year in 2021. “All the players are looking for that opportunity (to win a TOUR card), and the quality of golf in this tour is almost exactly the same as it is in the PGA TOUR,” said Drew Blass, Tournament Director for the TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes in 2019. “We’ve to people from all over wanting to come to Colorado and play in this event.” Even so, Blass and the rest of the crew at TPC have worked hard to keep the event accessible for golfers and fans of all levels. In addition to a Pro-Am
event that will offer golfers chances to walk the course and get tips from the pros, the competition will welcome spectators of all ages and backgrounds. Tickets start at just $20 for daily grounds admission and $55 for an allweek grounds ticket. During the event’s first year at TPC, Blass spoke about the commitment to
making this a community competition, one that would benefit northern Colorado and draw the spotlight to its people, its landscapes and its enthusiasm for the sport of golf. That hasn’t changed since 2019. “For us to do that, we have to keep building it as a village where the whole community takes part,” Blass said.

TPC Colorado gains national recognition by the Korn Ferry Tour

Golf’s local stop on the Korn Ferry Tour was given
top honors last winter, and one of its busiest volunteers was also highlighted nationally for his ongoing work. The Ascendant at TPC Colorado, formerly known as the TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes, was selected as the 2021 Tournament of the Year. Volunteer Mark Fidrych of Windsor was also selected as the organization’s Tour-wide Volunteer of the Year for 2021. Alex Baldwin, Korn Ferry Tour president, said the Colorado event was especially notable not only for its player experience but also for its overall engagement with the public – and the organizational skills

The 2021 Heron Lakes event was the third year as part of the Korn Ferry Tour. “It is truly incredible how quickly Drew and his team made this a marquee event on our schedule, in addition to putting on the tournament rated highest all around by our membership,” Baldwin said. “We look forward to the bright future this event has with our Tour.” And while Blass said he appreciates the accolades for the event’s success, he was happy to see the Korn Ferry Tour organization give special recognition to Fidrych. “There are more than 600 volunteers at each of the tour’s 42 events in the past two years, so it’s very exciting that they selected Mark,” Blass said. “Whatever role he’s held since 2019, he always says, ‘how can I help?’ We truly appreciate his commitment.” Blass said Fidrych, a retired power industry manager, has overseen various volunteer chair roles over the past three years, including the Tour office and uniform duties. “He’s been really successful at getting other volunteers involved, as well. He entirely filled his last committee in just two days,” Blass said. Based on Fidrych’s request, the Korn Ferry Tour made a donation of $5,000 on his behalf to Special Olympics of Colorado. The Korn Ferry Tour also made a contribution of $10,000 to this year’s local event, to help promote more charitable undertakings. “It’s truly an honor for the whole community,” Blass said. “Everybody is embracing it. It’s not just the tournament, it’s everybody involved, all through Colorado and Wyoming. Everybody can say, ‘Hey, we were a part of this.’ It’s special for everybody.” Tour organizers said the local event was chosen for its significant charity engagement, as well as a series of innovative fan experiences, ranging from a trolley for spectators to interactive displays. A plateau creates the first landing and sets up this open, downhill hole. A combination of stacked sod-wall pot bunkers along with larger bunkers, define various landings and options for the second shot. A narrow drainage swale flowing across the front edge, and the shallow depth of the green will require players to be precise with their approach. The hazard sneaks around behind the right half of the green requiring a little more attention on approach shots. Hole locations on the left half of the green are backstopped by a high ridge. Ending up with a hanging lie in the rough, will create additional concerns as players look down at a shallow green running away from them, ending up in the hazard below the front edge of the green.

The tees are perched on a bluff above the natural lake, giving players a view of the largest green surface on the golf course. The main feature of the green is a deep swale cutting across the middle creating three different areas for hole locations. The front plateau is shallow and will require a shorter yet precise shot to keep the ball on it for a birdie opportunity. The swale itself is located along the bottom will collect tee shots that are close. The back plateau is the largest area but is surrounded on three sides by water. A nerveless tee shot will be required to get all the way back onto that peninsula. For those still trying to ease into the round there is ample room short right of the green. Be careful with the chip as the green runs away from the player towards the lake.

This hole wraps around the lake with rolling ground that extends off of the high ridge to the west. The change in elevation adds a vertical June 26-29, 2022
dimension as one of the many options. Players can hit anything from driver to seven iron off the tee. The scorecard yardage measures the hole as a dogleg left, but the heroic shot would be played straight at the green if the wind is favorable. There are two “alleys” available to utilize while trying to reach the green. The beginning of the rock wall just left of the cross bunker puts the player’s tee shot on a flat narrow piece of fairway that should allow the ball to run up onto the green. The players using the more forward tees, playing up and over the hill just right of the cross bunker should catch the backside downslope that will also direct a ball down onto the green. For those who play more conservatively, lay-up positioning will be important if they want to have a view of the green on their second shot. The further away from the edge of the lake they play, the less they will see on their second shot. There is a lot of fairway to play to on this hole. The key is to avoid the three sod-wall pot bunkers with the tee shot.

There are five holes located in this central valley. The first will be the long, fourth hole. The fairway has ample width, but is defined along the left side by a deep arroyo and on the right side by a pair of deep bunkers. Players need to identify the hole location to determine their best angle of approach. The green sits at the foot of a hill with a large bunker wrapping around the left side. Hole locations on the left of the green will be tough to get close to unless the tee shot has been positioned near the fairway bunkers on the right. Hole locations to the right side of the green will give players a bit more latitude. Shots played at the green from farther left in the fairway will need to cross the green side bunker, but will have the length of the green to work with as these longer approach shots run out. The fairway wraps around the green so that players who don’t hit or hold the green will have shot options.

With a favorable wind this green can be reached in two shots, but both shots will need to be superiorly executed. The tee shot is played to an expansive fairway with a sharp ridge splitting it into a narrower “high road” and a broad, low road. The green is potentially reachable from either location as the hole is relatively straight. Approaching the green from the high road will give the player a view of the green and will provide the best angle to funnel the ball onto it. Golfers playing a three shot par 5 will have several choices. The fairway swings far to the left wrapping around the large bunker fronting the green. The small green has challenges around it, including a steep fall-off along the back left and hidden pot bunkers off the back and right sides. Players can choose from nearly 90 degrees of angles to approach this green, depending upon the hole location.

Elevated tees give players a great view of the hole as well as the entire Front Range. Dynamic bunkers line the hole from the right side with an additional bunker located on the left side, just short of the green. The wide fairway sitting within these bunkers and just short of the green looks inviting even with the small green of 5,000 square feet - the smallest on the golf course. The green drops to the left on the front half and to the right on the back half so players will need to proceed with caution and precision. Position in the fairway will be very important for the approach shot. The deep pot bunker fronting the green will also play a substantial role in helping players formulate a plan of attack here. The green is reachable in one stroke if the wind is down or out of the east, but that shot is high risk/high reward. Positioning the tee shot adjacent to the left side bunker will open a direct shot to the green without having to navigate the deep pot bunker.

Having played to the lowest part of the golf course, players start the journey back up with a semi-blind tee shot. Two hills frame the fairway, leading players to the green to set up their tee shot. From the landing area, players will face another semi-blind shot on the approach. This shot should be played onto the low “bluff” fronting the green. This will allow the ball to bounce and roll onto the green surface which falls away and to the left.

The eighth hole is the most sitespecific hole on the golf course. This relatively short par 3 is played on a narrow, natural peninsula lined by large Cottonwood trees. The peninsula extends out into Lonetree Reservoir and as players get out to the green they are greeted with their first full view of the lake. It is here that the proximity and natural beauty of the course presents itself. The 50-yard-deep green with its low rolling contours will provide plenty of variety for various hole locations. Natural wetlands line the fairway which is no wider than the green itself. The dry ground between the tees and the green, is the only safe place on this hole besides the green.

The final hole of the front nine bends strongly from left to right around the grove of Cottonwood trees, through a beautiful valley. Shaped bunkers and stacked sod wall bunkers give players a few options on their tee shot. A strong bend to the right can play short if players can place their tee shot in the fairway between the bunkers. The shallow green sits on the bank of Lonetree Reservoir with a backdrop of Long’s Peak. A shorter iron, used with precision, is needed on the approach shot.

The natural undulating ground sets up a variety of options off the tee, while the pot bunkers and Lonetree Reservoir enhance the setting. The larger green tempts players to try to reach and hold it with their tee shot providing an eagle opportunity. Players not inclined to try for the green with their tee shot have plenty of other options. A well-played shot to the top of the plateau in the fairway adjacent to the pot bunkers will leave players with a full shot into the green with a short wedge. A slightly more aggressive play would be to sling a longer left-to-right shot off of the second bunker trying to catch the downslope that will advance the ball to the bottom of the green. This takes the bunkers out of play for the short approach to the green.

The only bunkerless, waterless hole on the golf course, the fairway and green are full of rolling contours that could take shots away from their intended line, feed an errant shot onto the green or back towards the fairway. The hole plays softly uphill from tee to green which disguises some of the movement and subtlety. A strong ridge running along the center of the fairway creates two options to approach the green. This same ridge continues into and through the green. Players will need to line up their approach shot angle with the hole location on the green. Correct navigation through these contours will allow the player to control the run-out of their shots.

Continue the climb to the highest point on the golf course besides the clubhouse area. The high plateau gives players a spectacular view of the course and the Front Range. Access to the green with the short approach shot will require precision and planning. The shallow and wide green, falls away on both sides, creating the need to approach various hole
locations from the proper angle to have any chance at a birdie or par. The tee shot must navigate a group of stacked sod wall pot bunkers to set up the short approach shot. Playing out to the left will remove the bunkers from play, but this approach will become increasingly blind as players end up behind the high ridge to the left of the landing area.

The longest hole on the course, this is intended to be a full three-shot par five even for the best players. The tee shot is wide open and slopes softly from right to left with the dogleg of the hole, allowing players to swing away as they set up the important second shot. Upon arriving in the landing area, the players will face “Hell Bunker”. Laying up short of “Hell Bunker” on the second shot will leave players with a third shot approaching 200 yards in length. Players will need to club up to on their second shot to reach a shorter or more comfortable yardage for their approach shot. Hell Bunker has three distinct hollows with stacked sod wall bunkering, each one 40 yards further down the hole than the previous wall. The rest of the bunker is a combination of strips of sand, fescue islands and peninsulas. Ending up in the bunker could leave players with a shot that could be advanced toward the green or a lay-up shot that needs to be put back in play wherever possible. The green sits on an angle to the approach line of play, guarded front right by a pot bunker and front left by a steep slope. The green pitches towards the players, but an approach shot played a bit too long will put you off the back of the green in low undulating ground.

This hole sets up beautifully with tees elevated up on a high ridge. Players can view the entire hole and green surface sitting down in the valley below. The large yardage number will be offset by the downhill tee shot and the eastern orientation of the hole with westerly winds. A long bunker on the right side of the hole sets up the green. A ridge runs from the tees up the left side to the front

left corner of the green and can be used to help funnel a shot onto the green. This allows golfers to play away from the bunker and still find a way to get on the green with their tee shot.

Players will need to be careful not to over swing on the tee shot as hitting the fairway is critical to opening up the full range of options for the second shot. The green sits high among the hills, a partial punchbowl and peninsula as it peeks out from behind a high, fronting hill. The large green has distinct movement on the surface, making it imperative to find the correct area of the green relative to the hole. Playing a fade up and over the hill and pot bunker to the left, will likely funnel the ball onto the green. A slight pull to the left, and the player will find themselves in a shallow fairway with several options for the next shot. The easiest hole location to see from the landing area, on the western point of the green, might be the hardest one to get close to. The green is shallow on this end and a miscalculation short, long or to the right will leave the player below the hole, 20-30 yards away by the time the ball stops rolling down the steep embankment. Playing the hole as a three shot par five might be the prudent play. It will be easier for players to navigate the challenges around the green with a short iron or wedge in their hands. Carefully lay-up your position by avoiding the deep, larger, pot bunkers.

Players feel true tournament pressure as they tee off adjacent to the clubhouse, hitting their shot to the raised green on the peninsula along McNeil Reservoir. The green allows for distinctly different hole locations to really change up how this hole will play. The low shelf on the right point of the green is tiny, but players who find the right portion of the slope will watch their ball roll down the slope towards, and maybe into, the hole. The shortest hole location, at the front left, is one of the more treacherous hole locations. Two deep pot bunkers frame this part of the green and the quicker slope will
put a premium on keeping the tee shot below the hole. The fat part of the green is probably the safe play to avoid a large number late in the round. With a wedge or short iron, it’ll be very tempting to try and hit a tight shot and become an instant star.
LAST HURRAH HOLE 17—PAR 4

The 17th hole heads south and plays downhill from tee to green. The slight dogleg left is strategically straightforward. The inside corner of the dogleg is well-guarded with bunkers, undulating slopes and fescue. The front right pot bunker, dictates that players should try to place their tee shots on the left side of the fairway close to the bunkers at the green. This will minimize the need to carry the green side bunker with a long shot approach. The green is framed by a moderately high mound to the left and a low slope on the right. The fairway wraps around the green giving players who miss the surface with their approach shots a variety of ways to try and make par.

Playing slightly uphill from tee to green, this hole will challenge players on their tee shot and approach shot. The fairway is wide, with a slight slope running diagonally across the landing area creating a plateau to the right and a lower bench on the left. A small pot bunker cut into the upslope defines your two fairway options. The long approach will need to carry or avoid the deep pot bunker just short of the green. The green is framed by slopes and challenges. A slight roll is located short right of the green and extends across the approach area making an approach from the left fairway preferable. A sharp drop-off along the left edge of the green makes the left side hole locations difficult to get close to unless the player approaches from the right. A bunker behind the green will put a premium on distance control with the long approach shot, and a slight low back right of the green will also collect shots that run-out. The green is larger in size with subtle slopes throughout. A player finding the green with their second shot will have a good birdie opportunity to finish up the round.
