Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival Welcome, festival-goers! On behalf of Royal Gorge River Initiative Organization (RG-RIO), Fremont Community Foundation, and the Royal Gorge Chamber Alliance Foundation, we invite you to join us for a weekend of boats, bands, bikes and beer – and loads of family fun – at this year’s Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival (RGWF). Now in its 13th year, RGWF will be an event like no other. Fremont County’s section of the Arkansas River includes both world-class whitewater and beautiful, scenic stretches. Recently, we’ve added a whitewater park - complete with play waves - to the list of amenities. Our events feature the best of the river - from class IV to family-friendly demonstrations and contests. We’re also proud to feature our local trail systems and have five separate events for those who would rather stay dry both trail runs and mountain bike events. From SUP-ers to competetive United States Rafting Association (USRA) Regional rafting sprint and slalom participants, we welcome you. This year is also ‘Water ‘22’, when we are focusing on water conservation and river health. Please be sure to stop by some of the booths to learn more about how we, as a community and the state of Colorado, can do our best to conserve and protect our most vital resource - the Arkansas River. Ride your bike or scooter to the Whitewater Festival and park it in the ‘Gear Storage’ area. This will be a secure location staffed by volunteers from the Cañon Cityy Babyysitting g Club (donations accep pted)). Find the storag ge area in the basketball court area at Centennial Park - located at the westernmost portion of the park. Bring your own lock for added security. Event participants: You can also store paddle boards and kayaks in between events. You’ll recieve a tag for each item which will be required to check the items back out. Bring your own lock for added security. Volunteers will monitor the fenced area and facilitate check in / check out.

Join in on the fun! These events are designed for those who are interested in participating in a non-competetive event or an event that requires little experience on the water. Note that children should be accompanied by an adult, and the ability to swim is required. Day-of registration is available. See the registration tent at the center of Centennial Park. Friday Community Raft Race - Auction and Time Trial

6:00 pm Grab a team and hit the water - but bid on a professional guide to help you win the race, first. (Guides are employed by a local whitewater rafting company.) All funds from the “guide auction” benefit the festival. You’ll be guided from Pink House (near the pedestrian bridge) to the play wave at Centennial Park. Auction Starts at 5:15 Main Stage. Race leaves from Pink House at 6:15 p.m.

8:00 am Starting at the top of the Centennial Park water features, race your raft as fast as you can to the bottom of the feature. Ready, set, go!

2:00 pm Two rafts start at the same time. You must go around one buoy on each side of the river. First one to finish moves on to the next round. Tournament style scoring.

10:00 am Slalom through gates set in the river without touching them. Best time wins!

2:00 pm This is a mass start event. Competitors will navigate around two buoys, one on each side of the river. If enough sign up, this will become a tournament.

2:00 pm Kayaks will start at the same time, each kayak must navigate around a buoy on each side of the river. Enough sign ups will turn this into a tournament with multiple heats.

2:00 pm Grab your inflatable duckie (or borrow one) and head down the slalom course from 1st street to Centennial Park. Battle head-tto-h head with others. Must be at least 10 years old to participate in this event.

Raft Rodeo

6:15 pm The classic Whitewater Festival event. Who can control the wave? Will be judged by the crowed and a neutral panel of judges who use established criteria. Located at the lower feature in Centenniall Parkk. Winners recieve a beatiffull custom RGWWF belt buckle.

Beginner through Advanced Not ready to get wet? Join a land-based trail event on foot or on a bike. Running and biking events all leave from Centennial park and utlized adjacent trails, including the Riverwalk and South Cañon Trails. Events are designed for varied ages and abilities - there’s something for everyone! All events are on Saturday, July 23. The Great Escape Trail Events is a 1% for Trails contributor - giving back to local trails!

Beginner Pizza Madness 5K Trail Run

7:45 am This course leaves from Centennial Park and travels along g the Arkansas Riverwalk trail. You’ll cross over the river at the pedestrian bridge, head toward Tunnel Drive, and turn around at the Trailhead (or go up the hill for a beautiful view and a little extra elevation gain). Return to the park for a nice, easy second half and post-run celebration at the park.

Coming Home Realty 5K Beginner / Family MTB Ride

9:45 am Bring the kiddos! Try a mountain bike event for the fi firrst time! This course follows the Arkansas Riverwalk west to Tunnel Drive and has very little elevation gain. Youth as young as 6 years old may enjoy this course (our younger on a bike seat), and kids as young as 10 are welcome to ride solo. This course leaves from Centennial Park and travels along the Arkansas Riverwalk trail to the trailhead at Tunnel Drive. Turn around at the trailhead.

7:45 am You’ll experience the best of lower South Cañon on this beautiful fun. Leave from Centennial Park, climb up Wagon Trail, then make a hard right to climb all of Schepp Ridge for stunning views of the town, mountains, and the Ecology Park. 9:30 am Intermediate-level riders with the ability to navigate some technical elements will enjoy this fun and fast 6-mile course. 7:30 am Love a good grinder? From Centennial Park, you’ll take crusher fine trails and some singletrack to pick up Temple Canyon Road near the Ecology Park. Head up this glorious gravel route to the top of Cañon City’s local favorite descending trail - The Great Escape, for miles of techy downhill fun. You’ll head back on Temple Canyon Road (where you MUST meet the 9:15 cuttoff to re-enter the singletrack course) and enjoy more flowy, fun downhill on Schepp’s Ridge, Recycle, and Mutton Bustin’. You’ll end up back at Centennial Park for a well-deserved break and beverage.

7:30 - 9:30 am Join Robin Beals (ERYT200,RYT500, co-owner of River Lotus Yoga) for an hour and a half of vinyasa style yoga. This cllass wiill incllud de movementt, breatth workk, and d meditation. Whether you are new to yoga, an advanced practitioner, or anywhere in between, you are welcome to join us. Please bring your own mat or towel, if you have one. If not you can practice in the grass. Simply show up the morning of the event at Veteran’s Park.

22 Ways To Care for

Colorado Water in 2022

There are easy actions you can take to keep our water clean and save 22 gallons or more every day. That adds up to over 8,000 gallons of savings per year. If every Coloradan does their part, we can save close to 48 billion gallons. That’s almost 150,000 acre-feet, or the size of Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins or Green Mountain Reservoir near Kremmling!

Know your water 1. Go to the source What river or groundwater source are you drinking? Find out where your water comes from to understand why your actions matter.

Conserve water indoors 2. Lessen up while you freshen up Shorten showers and turn off water while you brush and shave. 3. Make appliances do the dirty work Use dishwashers and washing machines instead of handwashing and run with full loads. 4. Save water during food prep Defrost foods in the fridge and compost waste instead of using disposal. 5. Lose the leaks Fix running toilets and faucet drips. 6. Toss trash, don’t flush it! Trash, don’t flush tissues or insects. 7. Use WaterSense low-flow fixtures Install low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators, and look for the EPA’s WaterSense label on appliances and fixtures.

Conserve water outdoors 8. Go native and limit turf Replace thirsty grass with xeriscape landscaping. 9. Water at dawn or dusk Water during cooler hours and avoid run-off. 10. Be sprinkler smart Install drip irrigation, rotary nozzles and smart systems, then program seasonally. 11. Skip the crewcut on grass Keep lawns at least 3” tall to retain moisture. 12. When it rains, use it! Skip watering if it rains or is about to, and use rain barrels to capture rain for later use.

13. Sweep, don’t spray Use a broom, not a hose to clear sidewalks and driveways. 14. Use your voice Talk to your property manager, HOA and local government or utility about smart outdoor watering practices.

Scoop the poop and can litter Pick up after your pet and keep trash out of waterways. 17. Don’t P on your lawn Use only slow-release, phosphorus-free fertilizer to prevent algae growth in rivers. 18. Keep streets clean of auto ﬂuids Fix leaky auto ﬂuids to keep them off roads and out of rivers. 19. Let only rain down storm drains Don’t dump anything into storm sewers, which drain directly to rivers. 20. Got ice? Curb the salt Manually clear icy walks and driveways, then use sand, not salt, sparingly and sweep up after ice melts. 21. Install a rain garden Install a rain garden for beautiful effects and improved stormwater management.

Their style incorporates a variety of important musical genres and tones that range from, but are not limited to, rock, reggae, bluegrass, jam, folk, funk, alternative, and blues. For the members of the group, music, amongst many other adrenaline-pumping activities, is not just a hobby, but a way of life. SolSatellite -- 4 p.m. SolSatellite is a name with many layers, Sol being the sun, a solfege pitch, and a play on the word “soul.” SolSatellite is the embodiment of this idea through music by combining powerful, soulful vocals with funkadelic rock-based instrumentals and orbiting an eclectic fusion sound.

SATURDAY NIGHT MUSIC LINEUP Doug Kent -- 12:30 - 2 p.m.

Texas native Doug Kent, is a music maker and story teller. He loves to share his smile with strangers, and gives everything he has to creating music that moves people. Doug’s music could be categorized as Americana with twists of straight-up country and turns of undeniable pop (albeit blue collar). At the end of the day, Doug Kent is in a category of his own and it’s a damn good one. Touring the state & region with a genuine goal of connecting with others through music and creating an outlet for them to “let it all go” for awhile. Doug says, “There is a fine line between songs that convey genuine emotion and songs that make people feel better. I think people connect when they hear a story similar to their own heartache and tribulations, but I also feel that connection when I’m able to offer them a chance to not think about those things and just let go for awhile. George Jones said it best, ‘When you’re happy you enjoy the music, but when you’re sad, you understand the lyrics.’ That’s something that I keep in mind with my writing, and I think my fans appreciate that.”

Silver and Smoke -- 2:30-4 p.m. Since their formation in 2015, the members of Silver And Smoke have been blazing a trail in a genre they’ve coined as “Western Rock.” The Colorado-grown quartet draw from a variety of influences, including: blues, classic rock, soul, folk, country, punk, bluegrass, jazz, and classical - making their music one fiery combination. In their five year career, members Ty Bray (vocals/ guitar), Dino Ianni (lead guitar/saxophone), Tanner Boyle (drums), and Rick Brown (bass) have released three EPs (Workhorse - 2015, Marking Time - 2016, 30P - 2018), produced three music videos, toured across most of America, played on the radio all across North America (including Canada!), worked as a house band/rhythm section for a recording studio, and received sponsorship from Colorado based companies LivWell Enlightened Health and Native Gorilla. Support in their hometown of Denver continues to grow, and Silver And Smoke shows no signs of stopping. Most recently, the Denver foursome sold out their headline debut at the historic Bluebird Theatre. Silver And Smoke’s third studio release, “30P” (thirty P) was voted “Best Colorado Release of 2018” on Chris K’s Colorado Playlist (KRFC, KDNK, KOTO, KSUT, KLZR, KCMJ, KAFM, KOYC, KHEN, KZYR, and KJAC).

Just a Feeling -- 4:30-6 p.m. Just a Feeling (Formerly Beyond Bridges) is a rock band hailing from Pueblo, Colorado. Elements of poppunk, alternative, and 2000s rock create a high-energy fusion of modern rock. Having played music together since 2016, band members Adrian, Tony, and Kyle have found a style of music they feel is real and true to their roots as musicians.

Saturday Night Music Lineup Adam Ashley -- 6-8 p.m.

Adam Ashley was born in the small town of Rifle, Colorado in July of 1984. His interest in music was started at a very young age when his father made him take piano lessons. From there, Adam went on to play both the bass and acoustic guitars. As a child in school, Adam was a member of the school band as well as a member of the school choir. As the years passed Adam continued to play and sing. He went from career to career, but Adam never looked at singing and playing music as anything more than a hobby, until one day at a CCMA talent show in 2006. Adam met a woman named Misty Dawn. After winning male vocalist of the year. Misty pushed for him to consider singing as a career. After much deliberation, Adam decided to pursue a career as a country music artist. Adam started singing in the town of Buckskin Joe, Colorado. He performed daily for tourists, and spent more time writing songs. It was at this time Adam went on to form a band, and start to tour. He and his band played venues from Texas to Illinois. Adam Ashley & The Gunslingers put out two albums and performed together until Oct. 2009. Adam then went on to pursue a solo career. Adam is still playing music and writing new songs, as well as performing with a new band.

Judd Hoos -- 8:30-11 p.m.

Judd Hoos is an independent, American-rock band from the Black Hills of South Dakota. In the past 12 months, Judd Hoos has been busy.The band released a new EP, “Not Alone,” arranged the Nashville comes to the Black Hills: songwriting camp and hosted the 1st ever Judd Hoos Charity Jam. Judd Hoos appeared on multiple tour stops with Nashville rockers, The Wild Feathers, played close to 100 Midwest clubs, theaters, festivals and fairs and even shared the stage with classic rock icon, Billy Idol. In addition to recording new music, they have renewed a tour sponsorship deal with Remedy Brewing Company for the 2nd straight year and collaborated on their own IPA, Hoos Joos!
