1. Use boxes and bins. Boxes and bins are perfect organizational tools when it comes to small items. Above: Boxes are a great way to keep small items hidden and organized. Below: Use shelves for items that may be large in size or bulky such as hats and purses. (Design Recipes)
2. Huggable hangers. Use slim hangers as opposed to those that are bulky in order to maximize space. 3. Consider having your closet professionally “built.” These days there are many companies that can create custom drawers and shelves to help maximize a closet without breaking the bank. 4. Place shoes on racks or keep them in boxes. Shoes can take up a lot of space. While many people prefer to keep shoes stacked and in boxes, depending on the number of shoes you are looking to store, racks may be useful.

6. Utilize both short and long hang bars. One key closet organization tip is to have an area to hang items that are short in length such as shirts and jackets as well as those that are longer in length such as coats, pants and dresses. 7. Hang winter coats in a single closet in the home. Winter coats, can be bulky and take up space. One suggestion is to pick a single, underutilized closet within the home, and use it for these items. 8. Purge! Each season do an edit of your closet and get rid of those items you no longer need. 9. Utilize the “one in one out” rule. Just purchased a new white shirt? This is the perfect time to get rid of an old white shirt that may be worn, perhaps in need of mending or may no longer fit. 10. Add light. In many instances one of the main reasons why a closet may not be used to its fullest potential may relate to dim, or poorly lit areas, which may be difficult to keep organized. By Paul F. P. Pogue, Angie’s List Angie’s List (TNS) In mid-October, you may still enjoy warm weather and lightjacket days. But cold temperatures will arrive faster than you expect. Take precautions now to ensure your pipes and water supply remain in good order throughout the winter. PLAN AHEAD If you have leaking pipes or faucets, hire a plumber now to fix the problem. Leaks in moderate weather become much bigger problems once temperatures drop below freezing. Prepare your pipes with insulation, which provides the first line of defense against freezing. Insulation tubes from a hardware store should provide effective protection. Pay particular attention to pipes in unheated areas, those that have frozen in previous winters and pipes that have been repaired in the past year. If your outdoor water faucets have a separate shut-off valve, close the valve, open the spigots to drain the lines and leave them open until spring. If your faucets have a back-flow prevention device, be sure to disconnect it so that the water drains from the line. Fill any exterior cracks or

holes with spray foam insulation and caulking. Do the same with openings around outdoor faucets or hose bibs. This blocks cold air from coming in along the pipes, and it saves energy at the same time. PREPARING YOUR VACATION HOME If you spend your winters in a different home, make sure you prepare the home you leave behind for bad weather. Vacation homes can suffer major damage if a frozen pipe springs a leak; you might not notice the water damage for months.
A burst main water line can wreak havoc when left unattended for months at a time. To prevent this from happening, turn off the water meter yourself using the meter key, or hire a plumber to do so properly. Open all of your faucets and valves to drain the pipes. Then, turn off the water using the shut-off valve inside your house and leave the faucets open. Water can hide out in plumbing fixtures, so be sure to address those. Disconnect and drain your washing machine hoses and dishwasher drain lines. Drain all spray attachments and shower heads. Turn off the water heater
WHAT TO DO WHEN THE PIPES FREEZE Despite your best efforts, you may end up with frozen pipes anyway, so have a plan in mind for that event. First, close the main shutoff valve to prevent any leaks. Then find the source of the freeze. If one or two faucets don’t work, the freeze is between the split from the main line. If none work, it’s near the main water line. To thaw a pipe, Wrap the pipe in a towel doused with hot water, or warm it with a hair dryer on the lowest setting. Never use a flame. Keep your plumber’s emergency contact info handy in case you run into a problem you can’t handle alone. Winter is also a good time to review your emergency kit, which should contain (among other things) one gallon of water per person per day in the event of emergency or loss of water supply. Paul F. P. showers basically relied on using a lot of water to create a minirainstorm in your shower. With today’s water-saving rules, the trick was to design a rainhead shower to meet flow codes and still give a rainlike experience. A big breakthrough was using air-induction spray technology to create bigger and softer raindrops. This allows for a more enjoyable rain experience with a water-efficient head. Another new rainhead feature can include a deluge option, where the fixture dumps water for just a short period of time, then saves water for the next

: I was wondering what legal action could be taken if the person living in the home is on the home title but not on the mortgage loan. I recently helped my mother-in-law refinance to bring her monthly mortgage payment down, and due to recent events I now fear she’ll either be late on payments or skip payments entirely.
A
: We’ve written frequently about this issue in the past, and we always tell our readers to be extremely careful before deciding to co-sign a loan for a friend or a family member. When you co-sign a loan, you are taking on all of the responsibilities for making all of

the payments on the loan, not on a proportionate share based on your ownership share. You are right, by the way. If your mother-in-law fails to make a payment or pays late, you are legally responsible for making the entire payment; your credit and your mother-in-law’s credit will suffer. Now that you’ve signed, it sounds like you have some regrets about co-signing. Unfortunately, the only way you can now get out from under the loan is to have your mother-in-law refinance the loan again and only have her sign the loan documents. She would then be the only borrower, and you would no longer be on the loan. But it sounds like she’s having serious financial difficulties, which will likely make it difficult, if not
impossible, for her to refinance. We assume, however, that you are a part owner of the home. Another way to get out from under the home is to sell the home and pay off the debt. Your mother-inlaw could then rent a home and not have the burdens of paying the mortgage, real estate taxes, insurance and upkeep on the property. If you’re trying to help your mother-in-law make her payments on time, she could consider renting a room out to a tenant or finding another job or source or income to help bring in more cash. You could also have your mother-inlaw pay you the monthly mortgage payment each month and you would make the payment on time. That way you’d know that her bills are being paid on time and your own credit won’t be

threatened. Unfortunately, this situation could lead to your mother-inlaw stopping her payments and you being left on the hook. But again, at least in this unfortunate scenario, you’d have control over when bills get paid. These are the most common solutions to your situation, and you’d have to consult an attorney on any legal actions that might be available to you. Trent is a Northern Colorado native, through and through. He attended Laramie County Community College, in Cheyenne for 2 years, studying Finance and playing basketball for the school.
