Joe Anthony DiOrio October 25, 1934 ~ May 29, 2019

Joe Anthony DiOrio, age 84, passed away on May 29, 2019. Joe was born in Canon City, Colorado, on October 25, 1934 to Joseph DiOrio and Antionette DiOrio (née Madonna). Not long after graduating from Canon City High School, Joe enlisted in the US Army and served nearly two years before transferring to the US Army Reserves where he served another eight years. He then went on to work for the Department of Corrections as an electrician. An avid woodworker, Joe enjoyed all manner of wood working as well as traveling in his fifth wheel with his wife and spending time outdoors. He and his wife Carol of 48 years would often travel to Desert Hot Springs, California. Joe was loved very much by his faithful canine companions.

Joe is survived by his niece, Deborah Whitebread; nephew, Anthony DiOrio; and many family members and friends. He was preceded in death by both parents; wife, Carol; brothers, Edward, Tony, Louis; and sister, Annie. Ronald "Ron" Alexander Moschetti November 3, 1958 ~ May 25, 2019

Ronald "Ron" Alexander Moschetti, 60, of Canon City, CO passed away May 25, 2019 in Colorado Springs, CO. Ron was born in Denver, CO on November 3, 1958 to Alex and Betty (Munden) Moschetti. He was the youngest of four children. After graduating in 1978 from Marietta High School in Oklahoma, Ron joined the US Army (1982-1986) where he was at Ft. Leonard Wood then sent to Germany. He cherished his time in Germany. He loved, learned, and taught the German language to anyone who would listen. During his time of service he was most proud of his sharp shooter badge. Ron went on to work a variety of jobs from being a security guard in Anehiem, California to maintenance at Pro-Source, a cook at Village Inn to finally being a C.N.A. in Colorado. Ron loved the outdoors and wanted nothing more than to be camping, hiking or just in the mountains. Although never married or having

children of his own, Ron loved his family fiercely. He spent most of his life as a role model to his nephews (Jason and Tony) teaching them both chess, camping and life at early ages. Ron was a master of jeopardy, answering faster than anyone! Oh how he loved the Denver, Broncos! As Ron's health worsened, his attitude, spirit and love never did. Ron is survived by his brother, Chuck (Chris) Moschetti of Fort Mohave, AZ; nieces, Stacey (Jim) Robinson, Kayla Fansler, both of Canon City, CO Jamie Ostlee of AZ; nephews, Jason Eggleston, Tony Johnson and Micky (Kelly) Moschetti of Lake Havasu, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Janice Fansler and Alyce Johnson (by one day); brothers-in law, Randy Fansler and Vic Johnson. Service information to be announced online. John T. Myracle John T. Myracle, 85, of Florence passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. John was born in Denton, Texas to Jesse and Ada Louise (Muntz) Myracle. He joined the Air Force after graduating high school and was a veteran of the Korean War. John enjoyed spending his time woodworking and gardening. He would attend numerous farmers markets and craft shows selling the different flowers, herbs, plants and clocks that he created. Over the years he also volunteered with tutoring adult literacy and community projects. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Marianne (Henderson) Myracle, and his two eldest sons, Mark and Kenneth Myracle; both parents, Jesse and Ada

Louise (Muntz) Myracle. John is survived by his partner of 21 years, Faith O'Hagan (Florence, CO); Daughter, Kellie Myracle-Pellegrino (Tenants Harbor, ME); Son, Michael (Germaine) Myracle (Fitzwilliam, NH); Grandchildren, Kirsten Myracle Quade, Heather Littig, Jessica Myracle Flynn, Kylie Pellegrino, David Pellegrino, Jason Myracle, Julie Rice, Jackie Stevenson and many great grandchildren. John was a generous and compassionate spirit in this world and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Shirley Ann Carter

November 12, 1946 ~ June 2, 2019 Shirley Ann Carter, 72, passed away June 2nd, 2019 in Canon City Colorado. Shirley Carter was born in Salida, Colorado on November 12th, 1946 to Eva and Perry DeLellis. She attended Cotopaxi High School and graduated in 1964 as the Valedictorian. She married the love of her life, Hank Carter, in 1966. They have two children, Lana Carter and Dawn Nolan, and three grandchildren Danielle, Ariel, and Stephen, and two great grandchildren, Rosie and Erandi. She had many jobs over the years, but her favorite was owning and running the Six Star store in Canon City with her husband Hank. Shirley was an avid gardener, and her flowers often found their way into the homes of those she

loved. She loved reading and doing the Sunday crossword puzzle in ink pen. Shirley's wit was razor sharp and her kindness touched everyone who knew her. Her friends quickly became family because of her generous and giving heart. She was loved by many and loved others without reservation. Shirley was proceeded in death by her sister, Janice Chadwick, and her parents, Perry and Eva DeLellis. Shirley leaves behind many grieving family and friends. Funeral service will be held at Harwood Chapel, Canon City on Friday June 7 at 10am. Sarah Michelle Madison November 20, 1998 ~ May 31, 2019

Sarah Michelle Madison died peacefully at home surrounded by her parents on May 31, 2019 after a 12-month fight with cancer - Ewing's Sarcoma. Sarah was born on November 20, 1998, to Richard and Mary-Jo (Remo) Madison in Pueblo, Colorado. Sarah graduated from Florence High School in May 2017. She was diagnosed with autism at age 4 and labeled by society as "special needs" - she was anything but "special needs". After High School Sarah attended Starpoint which she enjoyed, making many new friends. Sarah attended Tim Tebow's Night To Shine with her friends from Starpoint in February 2018 - it was a magical evening that brought her joy. Sarah enjoyed volunteering and attending Mass at Saint Benedict Catholic Church in Florence, Colorado. For fifteen years she replaced burned out votive candles at the church, a ministry she performed until she was no longer able to. She helped staff and others at the church when asked and helped the sacristans clean up after Mass. Sarah also enjoyed middle and high school choir, visiting homebound individuals, visiting nursing homes, camping, ATV rides, walks, going to the park, going shopping and to yard sales, watching movies, playing cards and board games, being around people, asking her signature questions, and talking on the telephone. Sarah called and spoke to her grandparents every day. Sarah remained strong and fought a courageous fight during the 12 months of her illness. Cancer may have devastated her body but it never

touched or destroyed her soul. For the past 20 years Sarah was a true gift to her family, friends, and all that knew her. She did not understand or care about the nonsense of this world. All she ever wanted was to be around people asking her signature questions about what you liked and what you were going to do. Sarah's kind, caring, gentle, loving soul shined to the moment she breathed her last breath. Sarah was an inspiration and touched many lives; she will continue to inspire those who knew her. She is survived by her parents, Richard and Mary-Jo; grandparents, Skip and Ruth Berryann, James and Barbara Madison; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charlie and Helen Remo. Jo Ann (Bell) Corbin was born March 29, 1935 to Barnett and Hettie Bell in Clovis, New Mexico. Jo Ann married Travis Corbin on August 17, 1950 in Texico, Texas. Alyce Marie Johnson December 25, 1951 ~ May 24, 2019

Alyce Marie (Moschetti) Johnson, 68, a lifelong resident of Canon City, CO passed away on May 24, 2019 peacefully at her home. She was born in Canon City, CO on December 25, 1951 (our Christmas angel) to Alex and Betty (Munden) Moschetti. She attended St. Michael Catholic School until she started Canon City High School. She worked at Murphy's Poor Boy, A&W, Gibson's and The Rocket until she graduated in 1970. Soon after graduation she married the love of her life, Victor Johnson on November 12, 1970 at the Justice of the Peace. In December of 1972 they welcomed their 1st child, a daughter, Stacey and soon after in 1976 a son, Anthony. In 1978 Alyce started working as a basic laborer at what was then called Portland Cement Company where she earned more respect than most men. As the company changed so did she. From shovels and jackhammers, she attended night classes and worked her way up to senior plant buyer.

After 33 years of service she retired from what is now LaFarge Holcim Plant. Alyce cherished spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed bingo, baking, her westerns, music, cards and scrabble games and the color green! Many will remember her 1974 yellow challenger. She is survived by her children; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Chuck (Chris) Moschetti of AZ, Ronald Moschetti of Canon City; very special niece, Vanessa (Mel) Porter of Canon City along with many family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Johnson; both parents; sister, Janice Fansler; and sister-in-law, Sandy Johnson. Dorothy Alice Macklin July 6, 1925 ~ May 20, 2019

Dorothy Alice Macklin was born July 6, 1925 and died at the age of 93 on May 20, 2019 in Cañon City, CO. She was born to Emil and Pearl (Nichols) Hubele in McPherson, KS. She married Wilbur "Mack" Macklin on December 24, 1944 in Gypsum, KS. Known to friends and family as Dot and her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as G'ma. Mrs. Macklin was passionate about life; her contagious joy & laughter touched the hearts of many. She believed in serving her community & loved the younger generations. Growing up on a large farm in Kansas, Dorothy was no stranger to hard work. She was a 'Rosie the Riveter' during WWII, school teacher, telephone operator, secretary, cashier, egg candler, cook, newspaper distribution manager & church organist. She was a member & deacon at The United Presbyterian Church in Cañon City, Church Women United, Sweet Adelines Barbershop Group, Cañon City Music Club, Green Thumb Garden & Hobby Club and Circle Beth. She loved sewing, created quilts for family, patients in nursing homes and hospice, clothing for

African children and care bags for migrant workers. She is survived by her brother, Fred (Joan) Hubele of South Bend, IN; son, Barry Macklin of Cañon City; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Dennis and Bob Macklin; sisters, Rozina Base and Clarice Pruett; brother, Robert Hubele; and great-great grandson, Noah Macklin. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, 2 p.m. at the Sheldon Jackson Event Center located at 701 Macon Avenue in Cañon City with Pastor Maurie Campbell officiating. Mary Sumpter, 78, passed away May 21, 2019 with her family by her side. She was born Mary Lou Garrett, to Virgil and Leula Garrett on June 28, 1940 in Cripple Creek, CO. On May 11, 1957 Mary was united in marriage to Leslie Earl Sumpter. Leslie's Navy career took the couple to many duty stations around the United States and the Philippine Islands. Mary and Les returned to Canon City in 1974 with their five children. Mary enjoyed crocheting, watching sports, fishing and spending time with family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joys in life. She loved them fiercely and unconditionally. Mary is survived by

her brother, Virgil Garrett; children, Leslie Jr. (Katrina) Sumpter, Cindy (Ralph) Mills, Kenneth Sumpter, Virgil (Crystal) Sumpter and Tammy (Bryan) Asher; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Suite Life ﬁlled with rich history Salon offers variety of services at new Cyanide location

Daily Record Staff The Suite Life off of Ninth Street will be a trip down memory lane for some customers because of its rich history. The salon, formerly known as Lindsey’s Split Enz Salon, recently relocated to 807 Cyanide Ave. The building originally was the Sali’s Club Paradise, which opened in 1945 by Gus and Doris Salardino. The restaurant was a hot spot for not only locals but for many celebrities who were in Cañon City while ﬁlming a movie. Those celebrities include John Wayne, Charles Bronson, Goldie Hawn, Ricardo Montalban and many more. Suite Life owner Lindsey Camper said the Salardino family donated scrapbooks of pictures and comments from the famous people who were at the restaurant. “We are putting these photos in the Suite Life so everyone can enjoy them,” Camper said. Most recently, the building on Cyanide was Janey’s Chile Wagon. Camper said the reason she made the move was because of the request from independent businesses wanting to work with her. Inside the Suite Life, different businesses will offer clients a variety of services from haircuts, hair coloring, perms, eyelash extensions, pedicures, nails, massage, teeth whitening and plasma skin tightening. She said spray tanning will remain at the1224 S. Ninth St. location. Also new at the location will be the Suite Boutique, which has a variety of gift items, hair products, purses and jewelry. Camper opened the doors to the Suite Life in late May and said that clients are thrilled with the new building. “All of our clients were

father is from Cañon City and the family moved about 12 years ago from Nevada. She married her husband, Tanner, in September. He owns and operates Dynamic AG Solutions, a fertilizer sales and application company. The Suite Life hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday are by appointment only. However, independent businesses set their own hours and schedules.

Camper, who graduated from the Paul Mitchel School in Colorado Springs, is happy with the expansion and the new services she and the other businesses can offer to clients. “I’ve always wanted to own a hair salon and work with friends and now owning the Suite Life I have accomplished both,” Camper said. The Suite Life will host a grand opening from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 15.
