September 29, 1943 ~ October 26, 2019 Arthur Marks, 77, passed away in Columbia, Maryland on October 26, 2019. Art was born to James and Delta Marks on September 29, 1943. The family relocated to the Pikes peak region from Manhattan, Kansas in 1954 and soon settled in Chipita Park. Art and his siblings all graduated from Manitou Springs High School. Art was a member of the graduating class of 1961. Throughout high school Art enjoyed playing football for the green and gold of the Mustangs, where he and his brothers Ray & Jim had the enjoyment of playing on the same team for two years. In addition, the siblings spent many winter evenings on the Green Mountain Falls pond ice skating, playing hockey or crack the whip, warming by the ever-present bonfire. In 1967, Art relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he worked for Pacific Bell in multiple capacities for 27 years. Art and his former wife Rosemarie (Ree) raised their children Matthew and
Maureen in the beautiful town of Petaluma, California. Art retired in 1994 and remained in Petaluma until 2003 when the mountains called him back home to Colorado. He spent several years living in Colorado Springs and Canon City before moving to Maryland to be closer to his children. Art loved his family deeply and was a kind and generous father, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many. As a lifelong Catholic, his faith remained important to him. Art is survived by his children Matthew and Maureen, grandson Julius, brother Richard, Brother in Law William Beach and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Delta Marks, his sister Nadine, and brothers James and Raymond. A Memorial Service will be held on December 14th at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Florence Colorado during the regular Saturday Vigil Mass at 4:00pm.
George E. Lengrand, Sr. January 20, 1950 ~ November 7, 2019
George E. Lengrand, Sr., 69, was eternally healed on November 7, 2019 after years of battling cancer. He was born on January 20, 1950 in Baltimore, MD to Emil and Jean Lengrand. His family moved to Pueblo, CO when he was 2 yrs old. He was in ROTC in high school and joined the army after graduation at the age of 18. He served in Vietnam where he received a bronze star. He also served in the Army Reserves,
National Guard and Air Force Reserves. He was married to the late Sharon (Burnham) Lengrand for 42 yrs and is now reunited with her. He is survived by his children, Eugene (Connie) Fix, George Lengrand, Jr and Sandra (Tom) Samples, 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, November 23, 3pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 1415 Elm Ae, Canon City, CO
Chuck Nish, age 58, has gone home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Burlingame, CA on July 2, 1961 to Bob and Ginny Nish. He lived in San Francisco until the family moved to Canon City, CO in 1975. Chuck graduated from Canon City High School in 1979. He married Sherry Addington in August 1981, and together they had four children. Chuck and his wife moved to Limon, CO in 1983 where he volunteered as an E.M.T. for the Limon Ambulance and was a volunteer for the fire department. He began working for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department in 1985, and went on to graduate from the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy in December of 1987. He moved back to Canon City, CO in 1989 and worked as a police officer for the Canon City Police Department until he retired in 2010. He moved to Grand Junction, CO after retirement and worked as a parole officer until ill health forced him to retire completely in 2018. Chuck enjoyed above all else his children and grandsons. His favorite
pastimes were fishing, golfing, Colorado Rockies and Nascar. Chuck was also quite the jokester which he has passed on to his children. Chuck is survived by his wife Sherry (Addington) Nish; son Robert Nish, daughters Breanna Nish, Krystal (Shelby) Hayes; grandsons Branson Lopez, Caden Hayes; sisters Sharon (Marc) Shapiro, Joann Kendall of Alaska; mother and father-in-law Frank and Viola Addington; sister-in-laws Jerry (Kris) Denis, Glenda (Richard) Gordon, brother-in-law Frank Addington and Robert Duke all of Canon City, sister-in-law Louann (Rich) Espinoza of Florence, CO; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Perry was born in Big Springs, Texas and was raised in Cañon City, CO where he lived most of his life. He was a dedicated Sheriff's Deputy at the Fremont County Sheriff's Department for 13 years. He worked construction 20+ years and was also in the United States Navy for 4 years. Perry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathryn; Children: Ashley (Luke), Brittany (Jacob), Cameron and
Darcelle ; Grandchildren, Dallas, Addalynn and Yuna ; Mother Wanda; Brothers Rick (Kim), Ron (Kari), Don and Guy (Karrie) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Perry was proceeded in death by his father Bill; siblings: Samual , James and Terry; Uncles: Jim and Don and Aunt Shirley. "Miki" Eileen (Milstein) Lutz November 30, 1925 ~ November 3, 2019
Margaret Eileen Lutz passed peacefully in her sleep on November 3, 2019. Known as Miki to most of her friends, she was born November 30, 1925, in Glenwood Springs, CO, to Guy Edward and Ezma Anona Weatherly. A second generation Colorado native, Miki grew up on a sheep ranch on Divide Creek just south of Silt with one older sister, Edith, and four younger brothers: William, Richard, Edward, and Kay. Her years on the ranch prepared her well for life's experiences. She was a skilled horsewoman (that mile she rode to and from school each day beginning at age four had its benefits after all), an excellent cook, and an accomplished seamstress. Miki was well known for her dedicated work ethic and high level management skills -- all attributable to early ranch life. According to her brother Bill, "She had us up working a full eight-hour-day, some of us still in diapers." Miki graduated high school in New Castle, Colorado, and moved to Denver where she was employed as an office administrator for an oil and gas business. She enjoyed skiing on her days off. It was there that she met Dick Milstein, who patrolled the slopes of Winter Park in 1952. They married, had two daughters, Charme (Philip Krauth) and Robyn (Rockwell Canda), moved to Aspen, then Glenwood Springs where they pioneered Ski Country's "Learn-to-Ski" package. History was made when Miki and Dick boarded the Glenwood Aspen Stage (bus), sometimes two, loaded with Glenwood Springs youngsters and headed to Aspen Highlands for a day of skiing: lift, lesson, ski rental, and bus ride for $7.00! A winning race team of junior skiers resulted from their efforts in the development of Sunlight Ski Area outside Glenwood Springs. She was both a Girl Scout leader and a 4-H leader and a positive influence in the lives of many Glenwood Springs children. In 1967 they looked east and headed for the "Mythical Valley of ZA -- Westcliffe, CO -with plans for Conquistador Ski Area.
Making their home in Canon City, Miki worked for the Bill Berry Motor Company and the Bureau of Land Management in Canon City and then Glenwood Springs, while awaiting the opening of Conquistador. Her sense of humor was greatly appreciated that first season as she sold you a ticket, helped you put on your rental equipment, assisted you in finding that perfect pair of gloves in the accessory shop, then took your hamburger order at lunchtime. No surprise when she computerized the bookkeeping for every department. She could tell you how many French fries had been eaten at any given moment. Surprisingly enough was that she did this before the advent of Microsoft. Thank heaven her grandson and pride and joy, Michael Aaron Strubel, arrived on the scene in 1981. Eileen focused her attention on Aaron, her only grandchild, enriching his life as he did hers. Their many adventures included a trip to Kansas City. Gommie (as she was known by Aaron and all his friends) at the wheel with Aaron and his two best friends (all age 15 except Miki who was 70 at the time) destined for a soccer tournament they were scheduled to play. It was quite a trip with the boys winning the tournament and a final celebratory stop at a KC Masterpiece with a fond memory being made. Dick and Eileen had divorced by then and unbeknownst to Eileen, she was to meet and marry "her best friend" Terry Lutz (yes, he too was a skier). Eileen enjoyed 20 years of happiness with Terry sharing not only his homes in Guffey, Colorado, and Sun City, Arizona, but also his belief in the Lord. Eileen renewed her faith and was not afraid of the future. She dearly loved her family. We will miss her quirky sense of humor, her excellent advice, and her ability to do just about anything -- well! Donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Miki's name. William Thomas Smith, 92, of Huntsville; died Friday, November 15, 2019, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Bekie and Mickey Clark, in Huntsville. He was born November 8, 1927, at Bridgeport, Texas; to Charles and Bertie Blevins Smith. Bill was a World War II Vet, serving his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper and was stationed in Japan. He married his wife, BettyLee Keith in 1946; together they were parents to nine children. In 1967, they moved to Penrose, Colorado; where Bill became a Christian and served in many areas of the First Assembly of God Church in Florence, Colorado. God and family were the most important things to Bill. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Bertie Smith; his loving wife, BettyLee; one son, Kerry Smith; one brother, Melvin Smith; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Smith. He is

Ruby Marie Fuselier died Tuesday morning at the Florence Care Home. She was 95. Born in Colorado Springs in 1924, she married a soldier in World War II and they were together for 55 years. They saved their money, raised three children, loved their country and never once complained. They moved to Florence, CO in 1984 after her husband Lee retired from a civilian job at Peterson Field. After Lee died in 1999, she moved to Canon City. Ruby was a member of the Solid Rock Christian Fellowship in Florence. She is survived by her son David of Barnes, WI; daughter, Annette (Stuart) Wolkomir of Williamsburg; and
daughter-in-law, Vickie of Kingsville, Texas; six grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Gary, who died in October of this year. Her family will host a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Brookside Community Center. Friends are invited to drop in between 10AM to 12PM. At noon a brief prayer service will be followed by a bell ringing at Brookside's St. Anthony's Church. Cañon City announces top 3 candidates for open position By Carie Canterbury The Daily Record
The top three candidates for the City of Cañon City Administrator position were announced Friday morning. In alphabetical order, Nathan Johnson is the current city manager of Scottsbluff, Neb.; Ryan Stevens currently is the acting city administrator for the City of Cañon City; and Greg Sund recently retired as the city manager of Trinidad. Former administrator Tony O’Rourke resigned in May after being placed on paid administrative leave. The city did not disclose the reason O’Rourke was placed on leave, but according to the resignation agreement, O’Rourke “desires to resign as the City Administrator, effective May 6, 2019, to
seek new challenges and opportunities.” Stevens, who is the Cañon City Economic Development Director, was named acting administrator until a permanent replacement was hired. The council waited to move forward in making a final selection until after the Nov. 5 election so that the newly-elected council members could be part of the decision-making process. “We had 35 applicants, there were some really good ones,” said Mayor Preston Troutman. “We honed in on people who are currently administrating a town that is a similar size — or had a record of doing that — with a similar budget and similar projects like redevelopment.” Mayor-elect Ashley Smith
said she is looking at a candidate who also has a lot of economic development experience, has an “ambition to make a difference” and who has integrated well into the communities where they had been working. “We started with background checks, we will interview them, and if we see someone that we are really interested in, then we will do further probing into where they worked before and get a sense of their reputation and how well they got along with other stakeholders.” The candidates will meet with the city council Dec. 6 when they will tour city departments, visit local landmarks and attractions and undergo formal interviews. There will not be a public meet and greet for candi-
dates as had been done in the past. “We are keeping it a lot more simple this time,” Smith said. “We are really hoping to get somebody hired soon. We really need to have a permanent administrator to really start making some of the bigger and bolder moves that we want to be making.” Once the final candidate is selected, references are checked and a contract is negotiated, the council will make the final announcement. “This has been a long time in coming, we are ready to get moving,” Smith said. “We are going to work really hard to make sure we can get the best administrator for Cañon City that we can — they deserve the best.”

Pueblo’s Electric Utility Commission is likely to recommend a breakaway to the Pueblo City Council, and if that is approved by Pueblo voters at a possible May 2020 election, there will be an impact to Cañon City and the entire Black Hills service territory. Also attending the Dec. 4 meeting will be Reg Rudolph, general manager of San Isabel Electric Association, a regional electric co-op which has expressed interest in being involved in future electric service to the Pueblo area.
