WELCOME On behalf of the Whitewater Kayak Recreation Park (WKRP) committee, Fremont Community Foundation (FCF), the Greater Cañon City Chamber Foundation, and all of our wonderful staff and volunteers, welcome to the 2018 Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival (RGWF)in Cañon City, Colorado. This is the 10th anniversary of our annual event, although the Build Your Own Boat race actually began in 2001. We have something for everybody this year with five water events to choose from, a ton of great vendors, a fun zone for the kids, an archery event brought to you by the Royal Gorge Lions Club, great entertainment, a new splash pad for children of all ages, and ice cold beer. The RGWF was formed to help fund a Whitewater Park in Cañon City. This festival was developed through the WKRP Committee, the Cañon City Area Recreation and Park District, and FCF as a fundraiser for the continued development of the Whitewater Park and contributions to FCF’s charitable causes. The Cañon City Chamber of Commerce has jumped in this year as the agency of record.
All of the money raised at the RGWF goes back to the community. This year’s Platinum sponsors are Dave & Lynda Lambert from Cañon Signature Mortgage and Colorado Eagle and Breckenridge Brewery. Our Gold sponsors are City Auto Plaza and the Daily Record/Cañon City Shopper. There are many other sponsors at various levels. The festival area includes the bank of the Arkansas River between the pedestrian bridge and Fourth Street, the Pedestrian Bridge over the Arkansas River, the south bank of the river, and Centennial Park. While watching the events enjoy a beer, or any non-alcoholic beverage you prefer, and great food from our many vendors. We will offer a Kids Fun Zone. River Lotus Yoga will do their thing both Friday and Saturday mornings. The Lions and High Impact Archery will run an archery challenge. And, once again, the ever popular Weenie Dog Race will be held Saturday at 3 pm. There are two entertainment stages; the River Stage between the river and Duck Pond and the Main Stage on the west portion of

Centennial Park in the large field. In all, eight different musical acts will perform during this two day event. With many events to choose from there is an opportunity for just about everyone to participate and have a good time. It is fun to watch the events, but participating in the events will create a lifetime of memories. We have many vendors at the festival ranging from whitewater and outdoor gear to jewelry and boutiques. If you are hungry we have an incredible selection of food vendors to choose from, and yes we have vegetarian items as well. There is something for everyone at the RGWF. We will hold an auction Saturday evening of the 23rd. A list of auction items will be published on our website. 2018 Whitewater Event Breakdown Expression Session Date: Friday, June 22, 2018 Start Time: 4 pm Location: Whitewater Park Registration: Online or at the Main tent in Centennial Park by 3 pm Friday Check-in: At Main Tent by 3:45 pm Qualifications: Amateur (beginner through expert) Cost: $10 per entry Description: Don’t miss out on the opportunity to show everyone what freestyle is all about. The event allows kayakers, boogie boarders, rafters, stand-up paddlers, and those that like to duckie, to all compete in this freestyle competition at the Whitewater Park. The winner will be the one having the most fun. Costumes are welcome but not necessary. Let your personality take control.
ECHO CANYON/8 MILE BAR & GRILL COMMUNITY RAFT RACE Date: Friday, June 22, 2018 Start Time: 6:30pm Start Location: Pink House End Location: Whitewater Park Registration: Online or at the Main tent in Centennial Park Check-in: Main tent by 5 pm (with the auction at 5:30 on the Main Stage) Race Distance: 1.5 miles Number of Participants: 6 per boat Cost: $100 per boat ($25 discount for Chamber members) Description: This event can handle up to 10 different businesses or groups. Each team will have 6 people and will be provided a raft and equipment by a local rafting company. However, you will have to bid on your raft guide at the Guide Auction staring at 5:30 pm at the Main Stage. This is a fundraiser and the team that bids the most for their guide will have the choice of their starting position at Pink House. A shotgun start will signal the teams to enter the Arkansas River and race to Whitewater Park. This is all about bragging rights and the winning team will be awarded a traveling trophy. The crowd loves this event and will cheer the participants on to glory. Cash prizes will be awarded.
BLACK HILLS ENERGY DUCKIE DASH Date: Saturday, June 23, 2018 Start Time: 2 pm Start Location: Centennial Boat Ramp End Location: Whitewater Park Registration: Online or at the Main tent in Centennial Park Check-in: Main tent by 1:30 pm Qualifications: Amateur (beginner through expert) Cost: $10 per participant Description: This event begins at the Centennial Boat Ramp. The participants will splash, dash, and paddle as they race towards the Whitewater Park. There, they will splash through the feature play wave as the crowd cheers them on. Then, they race to the finish by landing their boat at the Train Depot take out. This event will be run in waves approximately every 20 minutes. Then, there will be the exciting finals race with the top 8 finishers. Duckies, personal floatation devices, and paddles will be provided but you can bring your own river appropriate gear. 2018 Whitewater Event Breakdown High Country Bank Build Your Own Boat Race Date: Saturday, June 23, 2018 Start Time: 5 pm Start Location: Green Post, ¼ mile west of 1st Street Bridge Registration: Online or at the Main tent in Centennial Park by 4 pm Saturday Check-in: Green Post at 4:30 pm Qualifications: Amateur (beginner through expert) Cost: $30 per boat Participants: 3 – 5 to a boat. Age Limit: 18 & Older. Description: This may be the crowds’ most favorite event. The BYOB race has been given a facelift this year by adding a gold reward! That’s right, GOLD! Cañon Signature Mortgage has donated a one ounce gold coin to be awarded to the first place boat. As with all of this year’s events, ALL of the entry fees will be awarded as prizes. A minimum of 3 crew members is required with a maximum of 5. Crewmembers must wear life jackets and helmets that will be provided. All crewmembers must remain on the vessel throughout the entire race. Boats must be no more than 6 feet wide and be able to fit under bridges. No commercial rafts, raft parts, hulls of canoes or kayaks may be used. No enclosed tops are allowed. Everything on your boat must be homemade. No rafters can be seated at or below the water line. Only homemade sails and paddles are allowed. No parts powered by anything other than human power are allowed.

2018 Whitewater Land Events Morning Yoga in the Park presented by River Lotus Yoga Date: Saturday, June 2, 2017 Start Time: 7:30 am – 9:00 am Location: Veteran’s Park Registration: None required Cost: Free Description: Join Robin Beals (ERYT200, RYT500, co-owner of River Lotus Yoga) for an hour and a half of vinyasa style yoga. This class will include movement, breath work, and meditation. Whether you are new to yoga, an advanced practitioner, or anywhere in between, you are welcome to join us. Yoga is a fun way to calm the mind and stretch the body. Start your day off right with this relaxing, peaceful, outdoor yoga class! No experience required. This event is FREE and open to all ages. Includes commemorative race tank shirt and FREE beer coupon. Description: Start the weekend off with the Whitewater 5K Challenge! You’ll start with a wild dash for your own shoes, then head out onto the Arkansas Riverwalk where you’ll encounter some fun and challenging obstacles along the way. Your 5K course will take you along the beautiful Arkansas River and back to Centennial Par, where you’ll finish the run…and get soaked in the process. The course is flat, wide, and suitable for strollers and or chariots. We welcome walkers and will offer alternative challenges at each station. Please not that this event is untimed. Cash awards will be given to the top finishers in each age category; Men’s Under 18, Men’s 18+, Women’s Under 18, Women’s 18+. Special cotton event tank tops will be given to each participant. 2018 Land Events Hot Diggity Weenie Dog Races presented by Bruce & Susie Bell Date: Saturday, June 23, 2018 Start Time: 3 PM Location: Centennial Park Main Stage Registration: Online or at the Weenie Dog Race Tent to the north of the Main Stage day of Cost: $10 per dog (each additional dog from the same family is $5). The Costume Contest is FREE!!! Awards: Trophies and Monetary for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the races. Costume Contest prizes will be announced on-site. Description: The Hot Diggity Weenie Dog Races are back. There are four different events within this competition, a costume contest, a puppy race, an adult race, and a senior dog race. This is for Dachshunds only, or Weenie Dogs if you prefer. All of the dogs must be certified, but don’t have to be registered with the AKA. Race entries will be accepted onsite from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at the Weenie Dog Registration Tent near the Main Stage. The RGWF is a dog free event, but the competitors are welcome in the park starting at 1:30 pm and must leave by 8:00 pm. The dogs must remain on leash at all times with the exception of when they are racing. We will have a complete list of rules on the website as well as a registration form. We would like to thank Bruce and Susie Bell for their generous support of the Hot Diggity Weenie Dog Races in honor of Fred I, II, and IV.
Sporting Arrows by the Royal Gorge Lions Date: Friday, June 22, and Saturday, June 23, 2018 Time: Friday 6 pm to close and Saturday 2 pm to close Location: South area of Centennial Park Registration: On-site only Cost: Description: The Royal Gorge Lions will conduct a fundraiser at the RGWF this year with the help of High Impact Archery out of Pueblo. They will have a competition similar to skeet shooting, but with arrows. All of the arrows will have blunt tips and a safe fletching to where they will not travel more than 20 to 30 yards. Whoever hits the target wins. We will have more information on this fundraiser on our website. All of the funds raised will go toward supporting Royal Gorge Lions programs.

Ka’imi Hanano’eau Time: 4:00 pm, River Stage Description: Oahu-based artist, Ka`imi Hanano`eau, wears a lot of hats. They include musician, soundman, community do-gooder, and merman. At first glance the 6’4 artist seems quiet and a bit shy. While some might take his mellow demeanor as being too laid back, those in the entertainment field recognize him to be an accomplished talent and one of the hardest working individuals in town. Raised on the island of Maui, Ka`imi set high goals for himself from a young age. He taught himself how to play the ukulele at age five, and by age 14, performed and worked in production of a local lu`au company. He later relocated to Oahu and attended college at Brigham Young University Hawaii in La`ie where he graduated with a B.A. in Music (Major) and Hawaiian Studies (Minor) furthering his knowledge with music theory and live sound engineering. He also trained in the Bel Canto vocal style with renowned teacher, Neva Rego. Ka`imi has taken everything he’s learned both on and off stage and has begun building a solid foundation of a long career in the music industry. A versatile talent, his experience enables him to perform a wide range of material from jazz to Hawaiian to contemporary. Ka`imi performs at multiple venues throughout Hawaii. Some of these include private functions as well as high profile community events such as Hui O Ko`olaupoko’s “Mauka to Makai” event, and at Honolulu Museum of Art’s Doris Duke Theatre as part of the “Hawai`i Night’s” concert series with KoAloha Ukulele.

The group specializes in horn-driven funk and dance music, performing at formal events, festivals, and concert venues for service members and the public. DOTSERO Time: 6:30 pm, River Stage Description: Taking their name from a small mountain town in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, DOTSERO means “something unique” according to UTE Native American legend to some. To others, it means DOT-ZERO on the earliest geographical railroad maps. But to jazz fans worldwide, DOTSERO means Contemporary Jazz at it best; full of life, energy, and spontaneity that few artists in the genre have been able to match. A no nonsense sax and guitar driven thrill ride of energy and excitement. DOTSERO is as much fun to watch as they are to listen to. The band has performed at major jazz festivals such as Red Rocks Amphitheater, JVC Winter Park Jazz Fest, Jazz Trax, Catalina Island Jazz Fest, and the Cancun Jazz Festival. From Ala Carte Park in San Francisco to West Palm Beach’s Sunfest, DOTSERO has crisscrossed the nation performing their exciting brand of jazz.

Adam Ashley Time: 6:00 pm, Main Stage Description: Adam Ashley was born in the small town of Rifle, Colorado in July of 1984. His interest in music was started at a very young age when his father made him take piano lessons. From there, Adam went on to play both the bass and acoustic guitars. As the years passed Adam continued to play and sing. He went from career to career, but Adam never looked at singing and playing music as anything more than a hobby, until one day at a CCMA talent show in 2006. Adam met a woman named Misty Dawn. After winning male vocalist of the year, Misty pushed for him to consider singing as a career. Adam started singing in the town of Buckskin Joe, Colorado. He performed daily for tourists, and spent more time writing songs. It was at this time Adam went on to form a band, and start to tour. He and his band played venues from Texas to Illinois. Adam then went on to pursue a solo career. Adam loves every show and it is easy to see.
