Donald M. Donaldson Donald M. Danaldson, age 83, died December 20, 2017, Cañon City, Colorado Born in Los Angeles, California, Feb. 6, 1934, son of Clarence and Dorothy Donaldson, graduated from Victor Valley High School in 1951, Victorville, California. Joined the Marines in 1953 for one tour of duty, serving in Korea, upon discharge moved to Missouri for a short time, then joined the Air Force where he served for 20 years, mostly in Cheyenne, Wyoming, as a Jet Engine Technician, retired and moved to Cañon City, Colorado, about 1990. He was a member of the VFW Post 4061, Cañon City. Donald became a bee keeper and had a business of honey and other bee related products. He was a well known square dancer in Lucerne Valley with the Haymakers as well as the Royal Gorge Promenaders in Cañon City. He loved dancing on the bridge over the Royal Gorge, attending many square dancers groups in California, was a senior representatine with the Royal Gorge Promenaders in 2004, attended National Square Dance Conventions in Anaheim, Oklahoma City & Salt Lake, and loved organ music. He also liked camping, hunting and fishing. He leaves one daughter and one granddaughter, four sisters, Betty Reed, Emma Carey, Janet Miller, of Lucerne Valley, CA, and Sally Emerson of LaCañada, CA, numerous nieces and nephews, predeceased by two other sisters, Mildred Tyler of Lucerne Valley and Irene Poquette of San Luis Obispo, California. He will be interred in the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside California at a later date.

James H. Stiehl

Stefan “Steve” William Logue, 66, passed quite unexpectedly into eternity on February 19, 2018 at his home in Canon City, Colorado. Steve was born in Wichita, Kansas on January 17, 1952 to William J. and Catherine J. Logue. He graduated from Holy Cross Abbey in 1970 and married Cathy Anderson on November 23, 1972. Steve lived his life his own way and on his own terms. He knew himself well. He gloriously did not believe in political correctness and was unafraid to ruffle a few feathers. He loved the feeling of freedom he derived from driving and called himself a professional driver. He had a passion for the down-to-earth, honest things in life--a ride through the mountains on his motorcycle, a glass of scotch shared with a close friend, and music played on good speakers. He often watched the sun rise and set atop Skyline Drive. The outline of his.45 ACP Springfield 1911 was worn into his jeans. He was old school in his walk through life with a strong love of country and traditional values but was accepting of opinions and lifestyles other than his own. He was a spiritual man who spent time daily in prayer and meditation. He found peace in his faith and modeled himself by God’s example. Steve is survived by daughter, Heather Rasmussen of Anchorage, Alaska and sisters, Catherine Brenner of Anchorage, Mary Sabus of Canon City, and Elizabeth Bunz of Colorado Springs. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister Therese V. Logue. We are heartbroken. We didn’t get to say goodbye. We will miss his wit, kindness, loyalty, laughter and his willingness to always lend a hand no matter the task. We delight knowing the full embrace with which Steve was accepted into his Heavenly home and the pure joy of his reunion with family, friends and his childhood dog Goldie who have been patiently awaiting his arrival. James H. “Jim” Stiehl, passed away February 16, 2018, in Canon City, Colorado. He was 101. Mr. Stiehl was born February 13, 1917 in Charles City, Iowa, to Albert A. and Stella (Merten) Stiehl. In 1944, he married Helen Lois James, who preceded him in death in 2014. He had two sons, Michael and John, both of Canon City and two granddaughters, Jennica of Denver and Joanna of Olympia, Washington. Mr. Stiehl served in the Army during World War II as a 1st Lt. Mechanized Cavalry in the European Theatre. He loved the outdoors, especially the forests and mountains, studying Forestry at Iowa State University and graduating in 1939. He started his career in Oregon with the Edward Hines Lumber Company, later transferring to Chicago where he was sales manager until his retirement in 1979. Jim and Helen retired to Canon City in 1980. They enjoyed a vacation home in the Guffey area since 1969. Jim also had a 57-acre tree farm where he spent many hours tending and planting trees. He was a member of the Society of American Foresters, Shadow Hills Golf Club, Rolling Rockers bowling league, and an Elder of the United Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed the poem by Nancy Wood: Never shall I leave the places that I love; Never shall they go from my heart Even though my eyes are somewhere else. Every morning I walk into the tent of the mountain. I stand secure. I am in peace. The wind comes. This is the breath of the mountain telling me the path to take. I am gone and am going to the mountain so that I may see the lightning break the sky in two and rain come and heal it up again. The family has decided that the best healing, growing and enrichment opportunities lie with a private, family memorial. For those who choose to honor the life of Jim, please make a donation on his behalf to the Historic Church Conservancy of Fremont County (HCC is a 501(c)(3) to help preserve the church building he so loved. Vernon Van Dyne II

Jerry Johnson of Corrections, where he worked at Centennial and the DOC Warehouse. After moving to Rifle, Colorado, he continued his career with DOC at the Rifle Correctional Facility, from where he eventually retired. After retirement, Jerry sold his house and bought an RV, which he used to spend his summers at Lake DeWeese and the rest of the year visiting family and friends in Pueblo and Canon City. Eventually, he remained in Canon City, close to family. Throughout his life, Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with some of his life-long friends. His favorite places were the Twin Lakes area, Blue Mesa, Grand Mesa and Lake DeWeese. His other favorite pass-times were softball and bowling. Jerry spent many summer evenings over many

years at the softball fields both in Canon City and Rifle as the team’s pitcher. He is survived by his children, Lance (Nikki) Johnson, Shannon Johnson; grandchildren, Kellsey (Cameron) Fox, Kindall Johnson, Patrick Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Tabor Stevens, Jarod Stevens; siblings, Roselee Barkley, Renee Johnson, Vernon Johnson, Ray Johnson, Russell Johnson, Jack Johnson, and Frank Johnson. Mary Alice Newton Mary Alice (Printz) Newton, 84, formerly of Pueblo, Canon City and Littleton, Colorado passed away February 26, 2018 at TRU Hospice of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Mary Alice was born to Ralph L. Printz and Alice A. (Bloedel) Printz on June 29, 1933 at the family home in Pueblo, Colorado. Mary Alice was the youngest of three daughters. The family moved to Canon City, where she attended school, graduating from Canon City High School. Mary Alice and her sisters loved to play the piano. She won several contests with her performances and was involved in beauty pageants. She won the Miss Apple Blossom pageant, Miss Canon City and went on to take second place for Miss Colorado in 1951. She not only had the talent, but had an infectious personality. After her mother passed away from cancer, her father remarried, having another daughter, Connie (Printz) Boden, whom Mary Alice named. She attended Western State College, returning after a year when she met and married Don Newton. They moved to Pueblo, Colorado and had three children together. Mary Alice later went back to school, earning her Bachelor’s degree. She became a teacher for a short while, where she taught children with remedial reading issues. After divorcing, she moved to the Littleton area and started a new career with the Department of Corrections, working with both women and men inmates. She retired from the Department of Corrections after 18 years of service. Above all else, Mary Alice was very devoted to her family. She will be dearly missed by her three children, Leslie (Matt) Feeney, Curtis (Tamara) Newton, and Chris Newton; sister, Connie (Dave) Boden; grandchildren, Suzanne (Oren) Sparks, Dusty (Cindy) Arnold; step-granddaughter, Hannah Feeney; grandchildren, Weston, Grayson, Sadie and Lily Newton; great-grandchildren, Colin and Payton Canik, Leona and Charlie Bear Arnold; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Joyce Butorac and Betty Forney; and niece, Jean Ann (Butorac) Waltman. For years, Jan Spiekermeier was lovingly known as “Ms. Jan” by all the students she worked with at Harrison K-8 School. Having been retired for the last seven years, she’s always looking for things to do to keep busy and to continue to be around children. She retired from Harrison K-8 School in 2011, but she volunteers with the kindergarten class one day a week. She recently purchased a portable cotton candy machine, and through “Ms. Jan’s Cotton Candy,” she offers blue raspberry, strawberry, pink vanilla and grape. “I got into it because like to keep busy and kids like it,” she said. “I miss the kids.” Spiekermeier enjoys taking her machine to parties and other events and prefers making the cotton candy on site, rather than have it pre-bagged so that it stays fresh and fluffy. Cotton candy is $1.50 per cone, and there is a $10 set-up fee. She gives back 15 percent of all her sales to local schools and nonprofit organizations. Spiekermeier has her Fremont County sales tax license and food handlers license. She will be at the Spring Home and Garden Show on March 16-17 at the Abbey Fieldhouse, as well as several other upcoming community events. Grand Opening of New Playground at Centennial Park set for March 10 New playground equipment at Centennial Park has been installed and will be ready for children to play on come March 10. For those with “eyes to see and ears to hear” these articles constitute one of the ways in which new information can be given at this time, the ancient truths remembered and a new light focused on the perennial values which underlie human evolution. It has been My endeavour, over the years, to present to the readers of this magazine a picture of the life ahead, to inspire a happy and positive approach to that future and to equip them with the tools of knowledge to deal correctly with the problems which daily arise upon the way. From My vantage point of experience and insight, I have sought to act as “look-out” and guard, to warn of approaching danger, and to enable you, the reader, to act with courage and conviction in service to the Plan. For many, this has not been a task performed in vain; many have found in My words both inspiration and guidance. Many await, avidly, their monthly libation of truth. Others read calmly, with a distant eye and even more distant mind and heart, while others again are baffled and know not what to think. In recent articles I have concentrated on the emergence of Maitreya and of Ourselves, His Disciples. This is the central happening of this time, without precedent in untold millennia. The climax of this process is now being reached. Frequently, now, Maitreya appears before many hundreds to inform them of His Presence and to invoke their aid. Soon, these appearances will reach the ears of media and investigation will begin. That investigation will reveal the presence of an extraordinary man, endowed with unusual powers and offering unusual answers to men’s problems and needs. We stand on the threshold of a new era. Most people today can feel the winds of change which sweep across the world, pointers to the new time. Amid the chaos and the breakdown of old certainties and forms can be felt a new world waiting to be born. A better world. A safer, saner and a fairer world. My task has been to keep these hopes and plans before you, to inspire your co-operation and active service, to guide your footsteps when they might have faltered, and to awaken in you the realization that you are not bereft and alone. I am happy to be of this service; I welcome the opportunity to lighten your burden and to hold before you the golden promise of the future.
