Shirley A. Finger
March 22, 1929 - December 17, 2019 Shirley Ann Finger was born March 22, 1929, to Harold and Helen (Letts) Hazlett in Muscatine, Iowa, in a house near where her father had grown up. She was the second of seven children. The Depression and a large household of children brought its challenges and joys and helped shape Shirley into a generous and kind woman who led by example. Shirley died at 90 on December 17, 2019.
Paul and Shirley spent many of their retired summers. After living in Iowa and Colorado, they later lived in Texas and Florida before moving back to Parker, Colorado, where Shirley enjoyed being part of a Unitarian Universalist church.
In 1970, the family began their adventure in Colorado with new jobs and futures for everyone. The family built a geodesic dome near Westcliffe where

James William Baker "Jim" passed away on December 27, 2019, in Canon City, Colorado, following a brief battle with cancer. Jim was born in Hollywood, Florida on July 10, 1943 to Virginia Margarite Fritts and Robert Wellington Baker. Young Jim suffered respiratory challenges due to the humid climate in Florida, so the Baker family moved to Colorado in 1950. Jim grew up in Cokedale, where he attended elementary school and explored the beautiful landscapes of southern Colorado. He went to Trinidad State Junior College prior to enrolling at Colorado State in Fort Collins for a year before joining the Navy. In May of 1967, on his way to a blind date, Jim instead met Renee Adele MacDermott in Trinidad. It was love at first sight. Setting off on a rebellious motorcycle ride, their 52-year romance began. On November 30, 1968, as the day transitioned from rain to snow, Jim and Renee were married at the Christ Episcopal Church in Oberlin, Ohio. In the Navy Jim was a West Coast Sailor and attended school in San Diego to be a radio man. He spent some time at Cape Canaveral before being transferred to Connecticut to study to serve on a submarine. Ultimately Jim and Renee lived in Boston while Jim completed his last active duty station on a destroyer based at the Boston Naval Shipyard. The happy couple moved back to Colorado in February 1971 and Jim worked for a local radio station, KCRT, in Trinidad. Jim and Renee soon moved to Canon City where Jim continued to work for KRLN as a radio announcer, DJ, and a member of the sales management team. Jim and Renee were pleased to welcome their first-born son Edward Anthony Baker in April of 1975. Their daughter Heather Suzanne would follow in July of 1977, with another daughter Erin Kathleen in May of 1982.

During his years in Canon City Jim pursued a multitude of careers and hobbies. He mastered local real estate as an agent, worked the aisles of Ace Hardware as a helpful hardware man, and delivered flowers for Touch of Love florist. Jim was a skilled fisherman, an avid student of the guitar, an excellent cook and a steady shot. He was a member of the Lions Club, and the Prospector Club offshoot of the Chamber of Commerce. Jim was also a founding member of the Canon City Walker Association and a member of City Council for 6 years. Jim always enjoyed having pets, hiking the local hills, and listening to music of all kinds. In more recent years, Jim turned his attentions to the stars and was an expert at counting shooting stars in the early morning hours. He also attended multiple Rockies games each season with his son and family. Jim is survived by his loving wife Renee Adele Baker, son Edward Anthony Baker and wife Stephaney, daughters Heather Suzanne Baker and Erin Kathleen Baker, grand-daughters Taryn Kenna Powers and Elle Elizabeth Powers, his sister Carol A. Wheeler and her husband Stephen Wheeler. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and his best friend Denny Bushman (Wife Pat Bushman). Jim will be deeply missed, and the family would especially like to thank the caring staff on the oncology floor at Parkview Medical Center for the excellent care he received. Your kindness to Jim and the entire family will always be so appreciated. A memorial service will begin at 2PM Saturday, January 4, 2020, at the Christ Episcopal Church in Canon City, CO to celebrate and honor Jim's life. Services have been entrusted to Holt Funeral Home. Hugh Chalmers
February 11, 1934 - December 29, 2019 Hugh Chalmers, 85, died December 29, 2019, surrounded by his wife and all six of his children, following a brief illness. Hugh was born February 11, 1934, in High River, Alberta, Canada, to Bertram Chalmers and Grace (McVannel) Chalmers, and was the youngest of five children. Hugh married Roxana (Wheaton) Chalmers October 28, 1955. Hugh and Roxana's six children were born in Alberta: Deborah (Robert) Freerksen; Jean Chalmers; Catherine (Patrick) Flynn; Treacy Chalmers; Steven (Misty Swan) Chalmers; and Brent Chalmers. Hugh had four grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Michelle (Tim) Graham; David Freerksen; Grace Flynn; and Anna Flynn; and Aiden Graham and Finley Graham, who shares a birthdate with his great grandfather. In addition to his wife and children, Hugh is survived by many nieces and nephews in the Calgary, Alberta area. Hugh and Roxana lived in Calgary, Alberta, for 6 years, and then moved their family to Edmonton, Alberta for 5 years before moving to the Portland, Oregon area in August 1970. Hugh spent many years of his career working in the waste water treatment industry. In 1973, Hugh's company transferred him to Colorado and Hugh called the state home for the remainder of his life. In 1979, Hugh and Roxana opened their
business, Sedalia Hardware and Yard Supplies, in Sedalia, Colorado. The couple ran the business for the next 21 years. They grew and transitioned the enterprise to a storage lot for RVs and vehicles in 1982. Roxana ran the hardware and RV enterprises, while Hugh returned to his experience in waste water treatment and established Chalmers Controls, an independent distribution company that he ran until the couple retired. Hugh was a gifted businessman, entrepreneur, mechanic, and carpenter. His family has treasured the products of his carpentry skills in the form of tables, bookshelves, stools, bedside stands, and a unique iPad holder. Throughout their married life, Hugh and Roxana enjoyed road trips and traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. The couple also traveled to France and Ireland. In his later years, Hugh stayed connected with his family and the world through his cell phone and iPad, reading newspapers, magazines, and novels, and following his family's travels. Hugh and Roxana retired in 2000 and moved to Cañon City, Colorado. The couple built a beautiful retirement home near Royal Gorge. At Hugh's request, only a family memorial gathering is scheduled.

The Humane Society of Fremont County hosted the inaugural Christmas Party for the Pets on Christmas Day. All pets received a vet-approved meal. Dogs got ground turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, pumpkin and dessert ears while cats got boiled chicken, all cooked by Susan Fredinburg, the shelter manager. Additionally, all pets got a new blanket and toys. Staff and volunteers walked the dogs up so they could pick their toys, all of which were donated by the community.

08/13/1941 - 12/22/2019 John Relaford 78 was united with the lord on December 22, 2019. John was born to Earl and Dora (McCoy) Relaford on August 13, 1941 in Pueblo Co. John shared his birthday with his Great Granddaughter (Meranda Winn) and Great Great Grandson (Luca Richards). John was a lifelong resident of Colorado. John was united in marriage to Beverly Steffey on August 18th 1961 and spent 56 years happily married. He worked his whole career as a delivery driver. John delivered milk to the schools and later worked for PSA Oxygen Company in Buena Vista Colorado, delivering oxygen to the sick. John retired from PSA and they moved back to Coal Creek Colorado so they could be closer to family. John will be met at the gates by his mom Dora Summerald, daughter Marla Winn, Brothers
Raymond and Donald Relaford and his beloved wife Beverly. John is survived by his son Richard Relaford, brother Carl Summerald (Linda) Grand children Teresa Todd (Larry), David Winn (Sarah), Cody Winn (Kylie), Brandon Embry, Kristen Relaford (Chaz), Jesse Relaford, Penny Fite Lefort, and Rene Relaford.
