Michael W. Bufmack August 6, 1961 ~ August 12, 2019
Michael W. Bufmack, 58, passed away August 12, 2019 after a courageous 8 1/2 year battle with Stage IV Cancer. He was born August 6, 1961 in Florence, CO to Richard and Mable (Banks) Bufmack. Mike owned and operated Bufmack Construction for many years and took great pride in his craftsmanship and trade. He was a hard worker, working all day at his job then coming home and building his family a beautiful home at night and on the weekends. He was an avid outdoorsman spending many hours in the mountains, fishing, hunting and back packing. He loved working around the house on his many projects, sitting around the fire pit with his friends swapping stories, talking politics, drinking Coors beer and listening to the Grateful Dead at full volume. He loved his family dearly. His children and granddaughter were his greatest joy in life. He was a devoted son, husband, father, brother and friend. In 2011 he joined the Wetmore Baptist Church and cherished
his relationship with the Lord and the many friendships he made there. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Jody Bufmack; mother, Mable Bufmack; children, Zachary (Stephanie) Bufmack, Juliana Bufmack, Kent Bufmack; granddaughter, Adisyn Bufmack; siblings, Pam (Pat Ford) Casey, Rick Bufmack; mother-in-law, Annie Wood, father-in-law, Edwin Camerlo, sister-in-law, Cindy (George) Zemlicka and brother-in-law, Kevin Camerlo. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Bufmack; and father-in-law, Jerry Wood. Memorial Service, 11:00AM Monday, August 19, 2019, Grandview Christian Church, Canon City, CO. John Robert Jacobs 1928 - 2019
John Robert Jacobs, 91, passed away on Aug. 9, 2019. John was born in River Rouge, MI and was raised in the Canon City Odd Fellows Home. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard submarines during WWII and was called back to service during the Korean conflict. As a talented musician he graduated from Western State College and taught instrumental music at schools in Salida and Canon City before moving to Southern California in 1962 where he continued teaching at high schools and with sponsored youth bands. He retired from Rio Hondo College as an instructor and the Dean of the Fine Arts Dept.
After many years of comfortable retirement in Seal Beach, CA and the Palm Springs area he moved to Pueblo in 2011 to be near
family. Preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Doris Jacobs and son, Ronald Jacobs. He is survived by son Randy Jacobs, of Pueblo, CO; daughters, Roxi Hinds, of Carmel Valley, CA and Robin Cowan, of Colorado Springs, CO. We would like to thank the staff at Brookdale El Camino for the loving care they provided to him. Officials give update on school-based health center India Beach The Daily Record As development advances on the Cañon City Middle School site, the progress of the future school-based health center becomes more evident. At Monday’s school district meeting, Valley-Wide Health Systems and Solvista Health presented new information regarding the school-based health center in the future CCMS building. Valley-Wide and Solvista have been prominent partners with the school district for many years and are excited to start providing care through the school-based health center. The health center is projected to be fully operational in August 2020. Surveys will be given out to parents and students through sixth grade to 12th grade to gather information on what services are most requested. “We want it to be really meaningful and able to address the issues the students are having that are keeping
them from being able to be effective learners,” said Dante Gonzales, director of Program Operations at Valley-Wide Health Systems. School officials said that health care centers in schools have been proven to improve the school experience for students. “Having physical health and exams accessible to our students, they get higher GPAs, lower odds of failing courses and higher odds of graduating high school,” said Paula Buser, director of Support Services in Cañon City Schools. Hours of operation will strive to be as convenient as possible. The center will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also, when school is out Fridays, the health center will remain open. The school-based health center will not replace school nurse staff. The nurse office and the health center stay separate and each complete their own wide range of services. The nurse’s office in the school will perform the same medical needs
as they have been. However, the school-based health center takes healthcare a step further with immunizations, dental care, and behavioral care in their center. This health care center first plans to operate like a walk-in clinic until demand takes over and appointments are needed to serve children healthcare. The school-based health center also will strive to have an operational dental clinic within the center. “We are making sure oral health needs, behavioral health needs, and physical health needs are met so that we can help produce a better comprehensive health outcome for students,” said Brian Turner, the CEO of Solvista Health. Cañon City Schools have been leading the charge with innovative policies to advance student learning and success. The addition of the health care center in the building promotes healthy lives and high achievement in students.

BLM seeks public comment for U.S. Army training proposal
The Bureau of Land Management Royal Gorge Field Office is seeking public comment on a proposal from the U.S. Army Fort Carson to conduct High Altitude Mountain Environment Training (HAMET) on public lands in Fremont, Teller and Park counties. The HAMET proposal involves helicopters briefly touching down on and flying over public lands. Fort Carson is requesting use of 43 landing zones as part of their proposed activities. The BLM has prepared a draft Environmental Assessment addressing issues pertaining to wildlife, recreation, noise, and cultural resources, among others. “Public input is vital for informing our decision,” said BLM Royal Gorge Field Manager Keith Berger. “We welcome this opportunity to gather input from the community that we serve.” The public is encouraged to review the draft EA, maps, and information on the BLM ePlanning site https://go.usa.gov/xywF7. Comments must be submitted through the ePlanning site or by mail. Please mail comments to “HAMET Public Comment,” 3028 E. Main Street, Cañon City, CO 81212. All comments must be received by Sept.11.
Fremont County Sheriff’s Office offering free drug disposal kits
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is distributing free drug deactivation packages that allow citizens to safely dispose of their unwanted or unneeded medications in a safe manner without having to wait for agency-sponsored drug drop-offs. Each package will safely dispose of 45 pills, 6 ounces of liquids or 6 patches. These packages can then be safely disposed of like normal trash. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that medications should not be disposed of by flushing down the drain as many of these compounds are not removed during wastewater treatment and can pollute streams and rivers. Currently, these free drug disposal kits are available at the front desk of the Sheriff’s Office and from all Fremont County Patrol Deputies. The kits are very easy to use. Just tear open, add the medications, fill the pouch with warm water and wait 30 seconds. Seal the pouch tightly with the zip-top, gently shake and dispose of like normal household trash.

Call for Nominations for School Directors Fremont RE-2 School District Fremont County, Colorado The Fremont RE-2 School District in the County of Fremont, State of Colorado, calls for nomination of candidates for school directors to be placed on the ballot for the regular biennial school election to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. At this election three directors will be elected for a term of office of four years and one director will be elected for a term of office of two years. To be qualified, a candidate must have been a registered elector of the school district for at least 12 consecutive months before the election. A person is ineligible to run for school director if he or she has been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child.
