October 5, 1939 - November 22, 2018

On Thursday, November, 22, 2018, Margaret B. Beck, loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend left this world and went Home. She was at peace and happy. She loved her children. Her passion was art and music. She played the piano and learned to draw from her grandmother, Emma Peacock. She loved horseback riding and people. She went to school to become a missionary. Her intentions were to travel the world for the Lord. She finished high school with honors and went to Missionary School in Canada; however, during her first year, appendicitis took her out of school and she lost her funding. She never returned to Canada. She married and started a family. Margaret looked upon her children as her greatest accomplishment in life. She was extremely talented and her gifts were many. She upholstered furniture, rebuilt cars and flipped houses. She made all five of her children's clothes by hand and all of the blankets on the beds in the home

usually from fabric scraps. Her life was a coat of many colors and a woven tapestry of love. She was preceded in death by both her parents, Wm. Oscar Brown and Dora Elizabeth (Wilson)Brown. Her brothers; Clyde Brown and Lloyd Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband Wm. Beck, her sons Gary Beck and Kenneth "Ed" Gilliland. Margaret is survived by her children: daughter Janice (Jon) Lawhead of Williamsburg, son Jim (Sue) Gilliland of Black Forest, and Brian Beck of Canon City. She is also survived by sisters Mary Richards of Amarillo, TX, Norma Cox of Windsor, and a brother Charles (Juanita) Brown of Denver. Also numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 27th, 2018, at the Harwood Chapel, 516 N. 10th Street, Canon City, CO, from 12:30 - 1:30, Funeral service will follow at 1:30. John Anthony Tenorio

September 19, 1965 - November 23, 2018 John Anthony Tenorio, 53 of Canon City passed away November 23, 2018 at his home. He was born September 19, 1965 to Edward and Kathleen (Diaz) Tenorio in San Antonio, Texas. After his retirement from Albertsons, John beame an advocate for many causes dear to his heart. He was the Executive of Native American AIDS Prevention, Treasurer and board member of the Pueblo Community Health Board. John was also active with the National Amputee Coalition, American Diabetes Association and served as the president of the Southern Colorado Chapter of PFLAG. John loved to travel and traveled around the world several times. A community minded individual, John was always helping others with his advocacy for Native American,

Hispanic and LGBTQ medical, mental health and homelessness issues. He is survived by his children, Brandon Tenorio and Lindsey (D'metri) Martinez; siblings Richard (Donna) Tenorio, Len (Willis) Tenorio, Bernard Tenorio, Susan (David) Smith; granddaughter Mercedes Martinez, special niece Myla Fishel, numerous neices and nephews and special friend Lou Mercer. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Edward Tenorio. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00A.M., Friday, November 30, 2018 at First Congregational Church, 228 W. February 3, 1928 ~ November 21, 2018 Paul Anthony Masar passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 21, 2018 in Canon City. Paul was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 3, 1928 to Paul and Margaret (McLaughlin) Masar. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Following his service, Paul worked in hospital administration for over 30 years. He was a master hunter safety instructor and an avid outdoorsman. Paul always said, "God created the world but he lives in the Rocky Mountains". His love of the outdoors was only exceeded by his love for his wife and family. Paul is survived by his wife, Edith; children, Paul R.(Sherry) of Colorado Springs, CO. November 18, 1963 - November 22, 2018 Patti Lee DeVor, 55, passed away November 22, 2018 in Colorado Springs. She was born November 18, 1963, to Ed and Pauline (Lee) DeVor in Florence, Colorado. She was raised in Penrose. She spent a great deal of her adult life in Missouri, and Oklahoma before settling in Colorado Springs with her husband, Mark Doutt. She is survived by the love of her life, Mark Doutt; daughters Amanda Packard, Creta (Stan) Walker, Christal Doutt (Steve Yanoshek), Shawna (Caroline) Doutt, Vonni (Adam) Hiles; son Jeromy Doutt; mother, Pauline DeVor; brother, Bill (Rhonda) DeVor; sisters, Mary Youngblood, Margie Wyatt, Susie (Ronnie) Brickman, Peggy (Tim) Grisham, and Diane DeVor; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Aden and Hailey Packard, Tucker

Adolph Paul Lauriski May 26, 1925 ~ November 16, 2018

Adolph P. Lauriski of Canon City, 93, died November 16, 2018 at St. Thomas More Hospital. He was born to Frank and Mary (Zupancic) Lauriski on May 26, 1925 in Canon City. Mr. Lauriski was a decorated World War II veteran, having received the Purple Heart for his service during WWII. He retired from CF&I Steel in Pueblo. He was a lifelong member of St. Michael Catholic Church, KSKJ Slovenian Lodge, Western Slovanic Association (WSA) and the VFW. He married Doris Robinette on October 8, 1966 in Canon City. She preceded him in death on December 30, 1996. Mr. Lauriski is

survived by sister-in-law, Katherine Lauriski as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; sisters, Mary Javernick and Freda Triano; and brothers, Rudy, Frank, Paul, Ernest, Anton and Millen. On Friday, November 23, 2018 we lost "One of our Finest" at age 78, Jo Ann Knisley. Jo Ann was born in Hutchinson, Kansas to Frank and Eva (Ruth) McDaniel. She was the oldest of seven children, Gerald McDaniel, Barbara Ice, Dewey McDaniel, Delores LeBlanc, Debbie Mire and Ronnie McDaniel. Upon moving to Colorado she lived in various surrounding counties. It was here she met the love of her life, Raymond Knisley, whom enjoyed her commitment for the entirety of her life. She was most proud of her three children, Allen (Tammy) Knisley, Sherrie Walker and Mark (Debbie) Knisley, and of course, her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Accompanying her 35+ year career as postmaster of Coal Creek, she owned and operated the Coal Creek and Rockvale stores. She was a turkey grower for thousands. She enjoyed her time in nature, searching and researching Indian artifacts, painting, nature and both growing and arranging her famous floral art. None of this would have been possible without extensive garage sale ventures. She will be greatly missed by her family and all that knew her. Pueblo Community College has named its new executive dean for the Fremont Campus in Cañon City. In a press release Tuesday, the college stated Linda Stetter began her duties Nov. 1, replacing Lana Carter, who retired in June after ﬁve years with PCC and almost 20 years in education. The college touts Stetter as an “experienced academic, business owner and minister.” “Linda brings a wealth of higher education experience to her new role, along with tremendous passion and compassion for our students, colleagues and the communities we serve,” said PCC President Patty Erjavec in the press release. Stetter spent six years as the director of mission integration and spiritual care at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo. She has served as a senior pastor in Massachusetts and worked as a chaplain in several organizations there. Stetter spent nine years at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nev., where she held positions as a business professor, department chair,

Once the focal point of meetings with governors, financial managers, politicians and business leaders, the Peabody Mansion continues to be a hub of activity in downtown Cañon City. Built in the 1880s for James Clelland, the Victorian house set on a quiet, residential, tree-lined lane known as River Street, now Royal Gorge Boulevard. In 1875, James H. Peabody moved to Cañon City and married Clelland’s daughter. They were given the Peabody Mansion as a wedding present. Peabody was elected to a two-year term as governor while Frances Lillian Clelland Peabody took over the duties First Lady of Colorado. When Peabody died at age 65 in 1917, Mrs. Peabody sold the home, which served many different purposes until purchased by Darryl Biggerstaff in 1988. Biggerstaff later sold it to Cañon City as part of a downtown revitalization and urban renewal effort, known as the River Station Project. The Cañon City Chamber of Commerce took over its operation and purchased the building from Cañon City. As part of its use, the chamber has become a focal point for tourists coming into town, as well as businesses joining the organization. The Chamber now sees an opportunity to grow and relocate to another property. The Chamber’s board of directors will review offers on this wonderful and historic property.
