Baxter has lived in Cañon City since the age of 2 and was an educator for 28 years, teaching and coaching at Cañon City High School for 21 years. HRM Honora Geraldine Roehler

I was born May 6, 1936. I am the fourth of five children of Waldemar and Madelynne (Kerwin) Roehler. I was named after my Mother’s Mother. My twin sister, born 6 minutes after me, Madelynne Mary Roehler, was named after our Mother. Our names throughout our lives have been Honey and Lynne. I have so many wonderful memories of growing up and always having a best friend. A twin. We grew up in Chicago and lived a fairy-tale life, and to us it was. Our older sister Joan was 12 years older and married as we grew up. Our oldest brother Waldemar Jr. (Bucky) was 10 years older and the sweetest person we ever knew besides our Mother. He died at the age of 40, and a light went out in the world. Our next brother Robert was 6 years older and, although alive today, never a big part of our lives. To this day. The magic of a twin sister is making memories and always remembering. In early 1949, Mother, Lynne and I moved to Tucson, Arizona. The Wild West and we loved it. We treasured our “own” company and the fun we had: unpaved streets ready for dams to be built, and horses to ride all over the city, AND BASEBALL! The Cleveland Indians. Always had my sister as we would go to school and enter a new world of friends and neighbors. It was a wonderful time for us. So different from Chicago but we enjoyed the change, and Mother did her best to see that we had fun. Mother was so very special. Can’t put it into words, but we were incredibly blessed. Daughter Joan (Joey) Barbara was born in 1956. She is a great deal like my Mother and my sister Lynne. Henry Moshetti came into our lives in 1966 and has remained there ever since. He adopted Joey, and we have been a fabulous family together. Our lives have moved us many times, and always we enjoy the people around us. As this is the last stop on my journey, please know, if you are reading this, that you were an indelible force to me. Life is to be lived and surrendered with Love. Honey

Man’s trip almost deadly after spending days in mountains

The hallucinations began on the second night of Jeff Jamison’s ﬁve cold, wet days lost in the rugged mountains southwest of Westcliffe. Rocks became people in the dark, a vision of his 14-year-old son complained that his feet hurt, and migrant families seemed to share a narrow ledge where the 50-year-old resident of Henrico, Va., huddled against rain, wind and fog. “But my son told me everything would be all right,” Jamison said Monday from his bed at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida after he was rescued Sunday morning. Jamison visited Colorado to celebrate his 50th birthday with solo climbs of Crestone Peak and Crestone Needle, two of the state’s most challenging 14,000foot peaks. His wife, Shannon Jamison, reported him missing early Saturday morning. Jamison hiked into South Colony Lakes on Aug. 19 and made camp. But instead of hiking less-technical Humboldt Peak the next day as he’d planned, he decided to climb steep, exposed Crestone Needle. He safely reached the summit and returned to his campsite later that day. The next morning, he decided to climb cloud-shrouded Crestone Peak. He waited out a storm in the Cottonwood Lake drainage before starting up the mountain’s famous south-facing “red gully.” After reaching the summit, he got turned around and descended the north side of the mountain.

Terence "Terry" Gill June 29, 1934 ~ August 25, 2018

Terence "Terry" Gill, 84, of Howard passed away on August 25, 2018. Terry was a native of Colorado. Born on June 29, 1934 in Salida to Jack and Geraldine Gill. Terry graduated from Salida High School in 1953. He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1953 and served in Korea and Japan being honorably discharged in 1956. Terry married June (Ray) Gill of Howard in December of 1956. He worked for Lockheed Martin Company for 31 years in Denver, retiring in 1991 and returned to Howard. He had been an Elk Member of the Salida Lodge for 61 years. After retirement, Terry & June traveled in the winter months and enjoyed the summer months in Howard. On June 21, 2014 the red caboose that rests at the

base of Tenderfoot Mountain was gifted to the city of Salida by Terry and his family. For the past 11 years Terry and his wife have enjoyed spending the winters in Canon City at the Royal Gorge Manor. Terry is survived by his beloved wife, June, of 62 years, one son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Inge Gill of Littleton and one grandson and his wife, Chad and Katie Gill of Shreveport, LA. Terry will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. At his request, no services will be held. Burial will be in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery in Salida. Kenneth "Kenny" DelDuca September 6, 1956 - August 20, 2018

Kenneth "Kenny" Wayne DelDuca, passed away unexpectedly on August 20th, 2018 in Pueblo, CO. He was born on September 6th, 1956 to Ralph and Rose DelDuca in Canon City, CO. Kenny graduated from Florence High school in 1974. On October 2, 1976 he married the love of his life Josie Martinez. Kenny was a very hard worker and great provider for his family. He spent his working days employed by Safeway, The City of Florence, Energy Fuel Coal Mine, Cotter Corp., and Fremont RE-2 school district. Kenny loved his children Jason and Shawna more than life itself, and was an amazing father. In his past time he enjoyed gardening, fishing, spending time visiting

and reminiscing with family and friends. He also loved to "kid" around with everyone just to make them smile and laugh. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. He survived by his loving wife Josie, children Jason DelDuca and Shawna (Jeremiah) Rash, Mother Rose DelDuca, Brothers, Robert DelDuca, Pete (Vicki) DelDuca, Sisters Nancy (Warren) Conway, and Carol DelDuca, numerous brother and sister in laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Gerald C. Hornbuckle 1937 - 2018

After a 5-month illness that confounded his doctors, and a two-week hospital stay, Jerry Hornbuckle died on August 8 of complications due to Dermatomyositis. A 55-year resident of Costa Mesa, California, he was employed as an engineer at Master Specialties/Eaton Corp until his retirement in 2000. Jerry was born and raised in Canon City, Colorado, where he lived until he left for college at Western State in Gunnison, CO. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1958. His family background in the restaurant business and his experience as a cook in the Air Force resulted in a tradition of family dinners which he prepared every Sunday night. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Jerry moved to Costa Mesa and enrolled at Orange Coast College where he earned his AA degree in drafting, leading to his ultimate career choice. In 1965 he and Mary settled into

married life, giving the world two wonderful daughters. He is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Shelley (Raymond) Chretin and Amy (Brian) Simko, grandchildren Nick and Ben Chretin and Hayley and Jake Simko, along with sisters, Jackie Schmidt and Pat (Robert) White and several nieces and nephews. Jerry was "Mr. Neighborhood Watch" and one of the truly nice guys of the world. Always smiling and willing to lend a hand, he made friends wherever he went. He loved music, dancing, golf and socializing. A celebration of his life will be held August 31 at 2 PM at St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 2200 San Joaquin Hills Road, Newport Beach, 92660. Wilhelimina "Willie" Wagner June 28, 1924 ~ August 14, 2018

Wilhelimina M. "Willie" Wagner passed away August 14, 2018 at Hildebrand Care Center in Canon City, Colorado. She was born on June 28, 1924 to Homer and Sadie (Mays) Mitchell in Eads, Colorado. Willie graduated from Eads High School in 1942. After graduation she went on to attend one year of business school in Hutchinson, Kansas. In 1947 she met George Wagner and they were married on June 5, 1948. Soon after, George, Willie and son, Mike moved to Dalhart, Texas, then on to Canton, Ohio. In 1951 George and Willie moved to Colorado Springs where she started in banking and worked as a bookkeeper, teller and finally in loans until their retirement in 1987. Retiring in Canon City, Willie enjoyed crafting and quilting and had a beautiful rose garden.

She was a member of ABWA, WIBC, VFW Women's Auxiliary Post 4051, and Quilting Club. Willie was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Sadie Mitchell; husband, George; son, Mike; and sister, Wanda. She will be greatly missed by all of her numerous family and friends. Lynda "Polly" Middleton June 19, 1944 - August 21, 2018

Lynda "Polly" Paulette Cross Middleton, age 74, of Florence, Colorado died August 21, 2018 at Sangre De Cristo Hospice in Pueblo, Colorado after a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Middleton was a native of Marshall County in Tennessee and was the daughter of the late Paul Terry Cross Sr. and Sue I. McConnell Cross. She retired from the Lewisburg Gas Department after 30 years of service as a Front Office Secretary. She was a member of the Church Street Church of Christ in Lewisburg, Tennessee and a member of the Florence Church of Christ after moving to Colorado. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She is survived by her son Paul Wayne (Anna) Middleton and granddaughters Frankee Shiann Middleton and Charlee Nicole Middleton, all of Rockvale, Colorado. She is also survived by her four brothers Kenneth (Mary Elizabeth) Cross of Lewisburg, Tennessee; Frank "Tinker" Cross of Lexington, Tennessee; Clyde (Carolyn) Cross of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Terry (Joyce) Cross of Fairborn, Ohio and one sister Patsy Haley of Lewisburg, Tennessee. In addition, she is survived by her

brother-in-law Randy (Saralynn) Middleton of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and her sister-in-law Carolyn Middleton of Lewisburg, Tennessee as well as numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Austin Middleton to whom she was married for over 50 years. She was also preceded in death by her sister in law Linda Cross of Lexington, Tennessee; nephew Chad Cross of Fairborn, Ohio; and brother in law Gary Middleton of Lewisburg, Tennessee. Memorial services will be conducted on August 31, 2018 at Harwood Chapel, 516 N. 10th Street, Canon City, CO at 12:00 PM with Scott Pino officiating. Services in Tennessee will be held September 15, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Church Street Church of Christ with Bill Ross Tankersley and Tony Cross officiating. Walter "Alan" Conover March 23, 1941 - August 28, 2018

Walter "Alan" Conover, 77, of Penrose passed away at his home August 28, 2018. He was born on March 23, 1941 in Las Animas, CO to Alfred and Ina (Turpin) Conover. After graduating high school, Alan served his country in the United States Navy. After serving four years in the Navy, he came back home and married Juanita Miller, the love of his life on September 7, 1963. They were married for almost 55 years and had three children. Alan started working for the State of Colorado with the Highway Department, CDOT. After retiring from CDOT, he and Juanita enjoyed traveling the country as antique dealers. Alan also loved fishing, camping and spending quiet time in the outdoors of Colorado. One of his

favorite places to go was Taylor Lake. He leaves behind his wife Juanita, children; Gregory (Dayle) Conover, E. Scott (Christy) Conover, Curtis (Amber) Conover, grandchildren; Johnathan, Grace, Joya, Gabriela, Abigail and Josh, siblings; Ida Heaton, Alfreda Green and Jean Shelly as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Gloria. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Evangelical Free Church, 3000 E.
