Audrey Jean (Jackson) Brown February 14, 1935 - July 4, 2019
On July 4th, 2019 Audrey Jean (Jackson) Brown, wife of late Chester Coney Brown, passed in peace at the age of 84. Audrey was born Valentine's Day 1935 in Del Norte County Colorado, to James A. and Lillie E. (Drake) Jackson. Audrey was the last surviving child of James and Lillie's five children, William, James (known as Mark), Colleen and John. Audrey had a passion for growing beautiful roses, wandering the streams in search of the elusive mountain stream trout and was always ready for a hand of pinochle. Her wonderful laugh and beautiful smile will be missed. She is survived by her two
daughters, Teresa Lyons, Brenda Heldoorn (Donald Heldoorn) and the son of her heart, Kenneth Ray Thomas (Denise Thomas). Her three grand children Isabeau Coskey (Owen Coskey), Anthony Westgate, Nikolas Lyons (Justine Lyons), and her great grand daughter Elora Lyons. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Barton Health Foundation and/or St. Theresa's Catholic Church, both located in South Lake Tahoe CA.. A Mass of Remembrance will be held Friday July 26, 2019 at Noon at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Ave., South Lake Tahoe, CA.
Anthony (Tony) Belaski January 17. 1943 - June 25, 2019
Anthony (Tony) Belaski, of Canon City, Colorado, passed away on June 25, 2019, in Fort Collins, Colorado, after a 15 1/2 year battle with Lung Cancer, surrounded by his family. Tony was born on 1-17-43, in San Francisco to Anthony and Mary Belaski (who preceded him in death). His brother, Edward, also preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; his daughter, Meghan; and his son, Jeremy; and their spouses, Brian and Holli; and three grandchildren. He is also survived by two
sisters, Carole and Chuck (his brother-in-law), and Patty in California. Tony enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Ft Leavenworth and Edgewood Arsenal in the early to mid 1960's. After the Army, he started working for the Bureau of Prisons and retired after 25 years. In 1989, he received the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service. He met his wife of 44 years in the Federal Prison Service in 1973. As was his wish, he was cremated with no service. He was a simple man, and he was loved...
William E. Conry (Bill) May 2, 1930 - July 16, 2019
William E. Conry (Bill) was 89 years old when he went home to be with our Lord and Father on July 16, 2019. Bill was born on May 2, 1930 in Denver Co. He was first born to William and Elsie (Hall) Conry. Bill was proud to have served as a corporal in the US Air Force. Bill retired as a bus driver from the Canon City school district. He got to experience some of his dreams such as writing a book, owning a business, and being deputy in the Maracopa County Deputy Sheriffs reserve. Bill traveled to Jerusalem for a pilgrimage as well as Africa for a mission trip. Bill was preceded in
death by his father William Conry, his mother Elsie (Hall) Conry. As well as his sister Margie (Conry) Davis and grandson Kiki Conry. Bill is survived by his wife Lyvia Conry; six children Robert Conry, Keith Conry, Diane Conry, William Conry III (Billy), Brett Conry, and Tara Betz (Jason Betz); fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; his brother Lloyd Conry and sister Shirley Ebbit. Service will be held August third at 11 A.M. at the Royal Gorge Vineyard. Royal Gorge Vineyard is located at 629 Harrison Ave, Canon City, Co. 81212.
Charles Kenneth Farris Sr. April 23, 1925 ~ July 18, 2019
Charles Kenneth Farris, Sr. went to be with our Lord on July 18, 2019. Ken was born April 23, 1925 in Arnett, OK to Charles and Lou Oma (Shelton) Farris. Ken married the love of his life, Mildred "Ruth" Welch in 1943 and they were married 71 years until her death 2015. Ken was stationed in Europe for World War II in the Army and Tank Division returning to OK after his service to start a family. Together they had 3 boys and by the mid 1950's they moved to the Bay Area in California. He worked for the Ford Dealerships specializing in steering and front end mechanics. Retiring early in 1982 Colorado was the only choice for the family. Ken was a man of profound faith and
unwavering love for his family. He is survived by his sons, Richard Eugene, Randy Earl; six grandchildren, Lea, Lisa, Ken, Ginny, Cameron, Amber; 15 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lou Oma Farris; brothers, Darwin and Melvin; sister, Emma Lee; and son, Charles K. Jerry Andrew Vonier March 16, 1939 ~ July 19, 2019
Jerry Andrew Vonier, 80, joined the roll call of the Saints on Friday July 19th after a brief illness; he was surrounded by those he loved and who loved him. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Jerry was born March 16, 1939 in Barton County, Missouri to Andrew and Bessie (Dunlap) Vonier, the youngest of eight children. Along with careers as a mechanic and foreman at Thorco Manufacturing, Jerry farmed for many years in Barton County, Missouri before retiring to Cañon City. Known as Pete to his brothers and sisters, Jerry is remembered for his extraordinary kindness, willingness to help and his infectious smile. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Laura Sue (Tucker) of Cañon City; daughters Renee Newey and Paula (Troy) Schwarzenberger; grandchildren Edna, Lauren, and Harrison Newey and Grace Schwarzenberger; sisters Rita Branson and
Velma Moffett; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Paul Andrew; brothers Arlo, Rex, Maurice, and Howard; and sisters Lois and Betty Lou. USDA/Rural Development raises income limits, lowers interest rates for self-help program Central Colorado Housing offers the Self-Help Housing Program in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture/Rural Development who provides the program participant’s mortgages. USDA/RD’s current interest rate is 3.125% (August 2019) with a loan term of 33 years. Income limits, in Fremont County, for a one- to four-person family are now $54,500 and for a five to eight-person family are now $71,950. The Self-Help program does not require a down payment and most of the closing costs can be part of the mortgage/loan. This will allow for minimal “out of pocket” upfront costs for participants. Participants in the Self-Help Housing Program will have the opportunity to own a never lived in, move-in ready, energy-efficient, brand new home. Program participants will choose from several house plans featuring three or four bedrooms and one or two-car garages. Participants will also choose their cabinets/countertops, floor covering and exterior paint color. Additionally, each of the contractors who work on the homes provides a one-year warranty on their workmanship. Central Colorado Housing is currently putting together a new self-help group in Cañon City. The new homes will be within walking distance of both Mountain View Core Knowledge and Harrison schools. St. Thomas More to host Flight For Life Blood Drive Event Flight For Life Colorado now carries blood products onboard all of its helicopters, improving its capabilities to provide the best possible care for patients. To support this advancement in patient care, FFL is partnering with Vitalant to host a blood drive at St. Thomas More Hospital from 1 to 5 p.m. July 30 in the Medical Office Building parking lot. The current blood shortage in Colorado makes it imperative that we gather together to donate and help those in need. Uncontrolled hemorrhage is the leading cause of preventable death in trauma patients, so FFL now having the capability to administer pre-hospital transfusions is a valuable and life-saving measure for our community. Lions Club members accept donations for Loaves & Fishes
The Cañon City Noon Lions Club recently accepted donations of non-perishable food items and cash from generous customers at City Market for Loaves & Fishes Ministries of Fremont County. Lions Club members who participated were: Doug Bennett, Bob Dewey Kris Dittmar, Marcy Dorman, Keith Hovland, Mike McLoughlin, Leonard Nelson, Bill Phillips, Brenda and Joe Rall and Harold Stoker. Executive Director of Loaves & Fishes Ministry of Fremont County, DeeDee Clements, expressed her gratitude by saying, “Thank you Cañon City Noon Lions for collecting over 800 pounds of food and over $500 for Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry! Mercy Today Ministries grows, settles in at former Merlino’s Belvedere Carie Canterbury The Daily Record
Mercy Today Ministries for more than 20 years has extended a hand to individuals and families in need and to those without a home, and now, for the first time, the organization has a permanent home of its own. Pastor Shiela Rollins retired from the ministry in 2018, passing the torch to her daughter-in-law, Becky Rollins, at about the same time the organization entered into a purchase agreement for the property at 1336 Elm Ave., the former Merlino’s Belvedere. The ministry had been operating out of other churches. “I took a really big leap of faith to keep (Sheila Rollins’) legacy going – it is her heart, it means to much to her,” said Becky Rollins, who is the executive director at Mercy Today Ministries.”Now this place will give us so much more opportunity to grow.” The property had sat vacant since Merlino’s Belvedere family restaurant closed in December 2013. Rollins said there is a lot of potential for property, which includes the former restaurant, the business office and lots of warehouse space, but there’s also a great deal of work to be done. The main level of the former restaurant is where the free Tuesday lunch is held every week at noon and bread is given away. About 60 people take part in the weekly meal, and a van picks up and drops off people at the library, Loaves & Fishes and at Big Daddy’s Diner. There’s also a clothing bank, which eventually will be expanded when the existing warehouse is cleaned up and ready. The office building behind the restaurant is the operations center where people can register for a food box, meet with volunteers to learn more about local resources and attend church at 10 a.m. Sundays. “Expansion is always good, especially when the expansion can benefit the
