With these words, Bro . Arthur.}. Kunz, R.W.P.G.M . was awarded the Pennsylvania Fra n klin Medal a t the March 1990 Qua rterl y Communicatio n o f the Grand Lodge. The elected Li nc Officers who are cha rged with choosing Ihc recipients of the Medal, agreed that his work in so ma n y areas o[ this Fra ternity during his term o f office and throughou t his life, made Bro. Ku rtz a prime candidate [or this, the h ighest honor bestowed by the Grand Lodge of Pennsy lva nia. Commissioned by Bro . ''\/alte r P . Wel ls, R.W.P.G. i\11. in 1979, a total of twenty-two Franklin Medals have been awarded to elate. It is awa rded to members o f the Fraternity [or th eir outstand ing service and ded icat ion to Freemasonry in genera l, a nd to the Grand Lodge o[ Pennsylvani a in particular. The Medal itself is a solid oval o[ 18 karat gold with a profi le o f Bro. Benjamin Fra nklin, suspended from a ribbon o[ purple velvet. Recipients w ho a rc not a lready mem bers of G ra nd Lodge au toma tica ll y become Honorary Members upon receipt o[ the Frankl in Medal.

The capstone to the work of renovati ng Aurora Lodge No. 523 in Jermyn has taken the form of a new sig n that has been crafted by o n e of the Breth ren. Bro. W illi am A. Buckingha m, Jr., P.M., creator of the sign, presented and install ed il wi 1h the help of Bro. Raymond W. Rood, P.M. and Bro. T imolhy R. Noldy, Masler..

Bro. W illiam A. Carpenter, R. W. Past G ra nd Master and Past Grand Secretary has died at the age of 75. Born in C h ester, Pennsylvania in 1915, a nd educated in the C hester public schools, he later earned a certificate in Liberal Arts from the Un iversity of Pennsylvania, and a certificate in Graphic Arts from Princeton. continued on page 2
